Chapter 729 Company
After what felt like an eternity, Damon finally managed to clear the damn memory world and get out. That bastard had made him cut the same things many times until every minuscule aspect of it was perfect.
The worst part was that he was forcibly kicked out of the memory world before he could even take a bite of the delicious food cooked out of his hard work. The aroma was so tantalizing that Damon had been salivating the entire time, but he was mercilessly chucked out once the mission was accomplished.
The whole thing simply left a bad aftertaste in his mouth. If it were just normal food, he wouldn't care so much. But he had never smelled something so mouthwatering in his entire life, not even the best meal he had tasted. Considering his best meal had been back in the Crimson Mountains, in one of the main families of the Crimson Mountain, he couldn't help but wonder who this chef was and how high his actual level was. Damon shook his head and snapped out of it, focusing on the memory shard in front of him. He grabbed the shard, and the other one popped out of his inventory on its own, merging with this one.
"Hmmm… Guess I am gathering these things." Damon let out a sigh and looked into the distance if he could spot any more of the storms. Nothing randomly kicked off the ground and locked onto him, which was surprising.
He then tried exploring the place. Unexpectedly, there weren't any storms in the north, south, or west. Only in the east, he came across another one. He continued moving in the same direction when the frequency of the storms picked up.
Soon, Damon was encountering one storm after another, and in just a few minutes, he had managed to gather 20 memory shards after finishing the scenarios in twenty different memory worlds.
Combined with the two he already had, he now possessed twenty-two in total, but he was nowhere close to completing a whole memory artifact, which from the looks of it, was in the shape of a ball.
Damon scratched his head. He was pretty sure he was going somewhere with all of this, just not sure where. His current plan was to simply dive into more of the memory worlds until one thing or the other happened. It was as solid a plan as any.
But unexpectedly, when he searched for another storm, he spotted something new. Familiar faces!
"Fuck ya!" Damon dashed towards the group. He had no idea who they were, but they were definitely part of the hidden families. He had seen them before in his previous life. Many people, including him, had simply seen them as background characters, and they never really gained any popularity, but now Damon knew better.
They should be the top elites of the hidden families. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten so far in the game and so far in this mysterious Golden Throne event.
The red sands kicked up beneath his feet as Damon closed the distance between them. There were five of them, three men, two women, and they had surrounded someone else.
Damon's eyes widened as he recognized the person at the center, Necrogod. Except the kid no longer had any spark left in his pale face. His entire being trembled and shivered, and he looked utterly weak. On closer inspection, even his body had changed. He had thinned down considerably and was basically just skin and bones now.
Next to him, there was another person crouched. It was none other than the Deviant King Mo Cheng from the Chinese super guild. In his last life, these two had clashed plenty of times, but Necrogod had always come out on top. He was a being that none of the super guilds could touch. But now it looked like things were going on a different path.
"Why are you being so stubborn? Aren't you already on death's door? Why not just let go?" Mo Cheng sneered. "You do know that I had nothing to do with all of this. You were defeated by a memory storm. Fair and square. You have already lost the claim to that legendary item. Such a priceless treasure would only go to waste in the hands of a pig like you. It is better if you hand it over to me. Why let a glorious piece of equipment rot into nothingness in this desolate land?"
Damon had already activated [Stealth], and no one had sensed him yet. He was able to clearly see and hear everything. He looked at the little kid again, and he now understood what happened when someone actually failed to clear the memory storm.
Mo Cheng straightened slightly, clearly enjoying himself. "You should be thanking me," he continued lazily. "If I weren't here, someone worse would have found you. At least I'm offering you a clean end. Hand it over, and I'll make sure you fade quietly."
Necrogod only smiled bitterly. He did not say anything at all and simply looked on.
"Say, how was that golden sandstorm? Can you tell me what sort of scenario you experienced inside?" Mo Cheng continued to interrogate.
Damon was once again shocked. So there were different grades of these memory storms? This was the first time he was coming across something like this. Now everything became clear.
These golden memory storms should be harder than the normal ones. This was probably why Necrogod failed in this memory world. These guys luckily ran into him at his weakened state and were now after his legendary item.
Damon did not wait around any longer. This was a mysterious world that he did not know much about. There were also many others along with them. Anything could happen at any time. It was best to end things quickly.
Before Mo Cheng could say another word, a blood barrier appeared around Necrogod. At the same time, a burst of poisonous miasma surrounded the group.
