Chapter 783: Same page
Pressure.
That was what Clark felt. Not a pressure that came with powerful training. Not a pressure that came with years of working to become stronger. This pressure was different. Unique.
"Now that existence is backing us and little Alistar can't interfere, let's see what you want." The pressure disappeared as the entire battle field seemed to be frozen in time.
"Just a little trick. Slowing their minds and halting their bodies is an easily done task. Once you truly understand energy. Once you truly have power. But you and those others are young, weak races. Very entertaining though."
The figure that moved in to Clark's view was seemingly boring by comparison to the demon that had been using everyone else as a plaything. It wore a large clown mask, almost keeping the image on the joker card perfect. It had a thin and tall stature while wearing a perfectly crafted black and white suit.
"Yes, I know. How odd that I look closer to you. But we are demons, we change to look more like our prey. And I do enjoy the souls and energy from humanoid races rather than the beasts and monsters of other worlds. The intelligence is much more entertaining, you see."
As if reading his mind, the demon replied. It was clearly anticipating what Clark was going to do and say at every turn. "Oh, don't make that face. I am not using you to enter your world. This may be an exemption to make a contract with you, however, you would have to put it in the contract to bring me here. That is if you wish me to fight for you and take that little one away.
Not that this world is all that fun."
The demon moved closer to Clark's face, "This world is too young. Only children like to play with things like you. I prefer celestials, immortals, and even the odd angel or two. Much more fun. They make so many foolish rules that they think they have to follow."
"I do not want you to come here and fight." Clark made that clear. He was sure that if he invited this demon that the world would be done and gone in less than a day. The sheer amount of power he could vaguely sense as he looked over the frozen battlefield and the clearly enraged enemy demon… it said it all.
"Good good. Well, I am the Joker. I entertain myself with contracts, deals, and by placing many in to unique situations. It depends on them though. What can you offer me? It depends on what you want."
This was all what Clark expected though. The demons made deals, contracts, that would have to do with their own benefit but also the contractors benefits. So, if he were to make a deal, he would most likely be losing something as well.
"I could save that girl. Heal her completely. Even add a thousand years of life to her. That way you would have a thousand years to spend with her. Or you could let her live longer. Watch everyone she knows perish.
Being the last one alive in this world." there was a twisted glee to joker's tone. He was very excited to do something like that. It would be funny.
"She's a healer, she will live because her partner will heal her. I need to eliminate that one. He is the only threat here. And you can not come here to do it. I want you to never come here." Clark felt that he couldn't hold back. If he did, then he would lose the chance to make this deal.
Make this world safe from the demon that had already sent one body here of his.
"Little Alistar is here to cause you harm. He wants to have another small base for power. Another slave planet for entertainment. You would think once he got to three thousand years old he would have matured in to a young man. But he is still playing around here." Joker sounded slightly disappointed. Like watching a nephew get in trouble with school or parents.
"So you wish for power? That's it?" Joker turned his head, a slight crack coming from his neck. There was a piercing pressure coming from his eyes under the joker mask.
"I want to be able to kill and erase any chance that Alistar or another demon can come here and harm this world."
The only thought Clark had was simple. Protect everyone. Not just those here right now. The demons were a more powerful race. Thousands of years long lived. Able to even have restrictions from existence.
'Existence watches.'
The system made a response which was completely unexpected. Clark rarely saw the system use its intelligence, but right now it had said something much greater than what it had said before.
"That can be arranged. As for a price, I could take your beasts. They would be nice trophies or pets to keep. A celestial slime dragon is rare. They only ever get born on dragon stars. But they are weak for ten thousand years.
I would have to waste a lot of time."
"An extinct species on your planet. but your shadow spider is barely tied to an ancient species. Not worth my time."
"Oho, but that small baby ghost. It's a rare one. Unique to souls and death. I have only seen those two divided. But yours brings them together rather easily. Even pushing away the undead typing and becoming unique.
That's even better."
"How to grow it though. It's too off. Too against me. And your souls are intertwined. At least seventy thousand years to untangle them. Very troublesome."
Clark felt that Shy was being mocked. That Crim was being insulted. And Devi was being thought of as just an annoyance. Joker was literally sitting there mocking him completely.
"Little Alistar had come here by making monsters. Servants that weren't truly servants until he got here. That's a pathetic usage of demonic energy and blood. If he were to purify his blood in to a potion he could grant a soul mutation potion to others. This is why children should not get reckless."
"I can offer you a soul mutation potion. You will become like those monsters you hate. But you should maintain your will, for a short while at least."
From Clark's perspective, he was being offered some miracle potion. That didn't make sense at all. It would make him a monster. How could it be good? He would have to lose everything that made him, him. And he would lose his mind after?
Even worse.
"You want power. So become something you wish not to be. I will witness your actions. Your terror as you become what you hate. I will watch it all. The suffering after.
The madness that you fall in to. And your death when you give up life after changing."
A rough and sickening laughter came from behind the joker mask. Thai was a demon. Clark knew that. But this demon didn't want the world. Didn't want his soul. No, this demon only saw value in the quality of entertainment he could get from Clark's suffering.
Nothing more, nothing less.
There was power though. eShy was already away. Crim could be set aside. They could stay within the eden's end taming space. They could be there safe and sound without any worries of being forced in to a monstrous mutation.
Before Clark could make a decision, Devi's arm reached out to the spirit drive form and grabbed the potion dangling in front of them. "Don't take-"
"Then the deal is made. As per the contract, will witness what happens after you take that potion. I will not enter your world. You have every right to protect your world from other demons using that power."
'Existence watches.'
There it was again. Even though Clark was panicking now, he saw the system mention again that existence was watching. There had to be a reason.
"Devil, we can't do this." Clark tried to reason with his partner. His spirit beast. He knew that Devi would suffer. That they would both lose themselves. Yet…Crim Had already been forced to retreat. The loss of the armor around his body made Clark appear more broken.
Less like a confident fighter and more like the young kid he was.
The sudden feeling of equality and balance that flowed through their connection was enough to put Clark right on the same page as Devi. it wasn't that Devi was trying to ignore Clark. But he was sensing the resolve and making the first move. Matching Clark's determination to protect everyone and everything.
"Devil, we have always been closer than anything else. Our parents were killed. Our home burned. It turned in to this. If you and I do this… then just remember, we are more than family."
"More."
That was the first word that Devi had ever said. The first and only word other than the laughter and small sounds used to portray emotion or cause fear to their enemies. The first and only word before the oddly glimmering white potion was splashed over the pair by Devi.
