Chapter 776: Taboo
Chapter 776: Taboo
"I think that Jerold will have everything handled in just a few minutes. Don't make that face." Clark saw that Maria was worried leaving Jerold behind alone. He was clearly able to fight and catch on to things that even they struggled with at the moment. But still, he was alone while the others had been near one another.
"I understand that he is growing too. But everyone should have our support." Maria's words made Clark want to stop for a moment. Not to say she was wrong, but because he liked everything he heard.
"We all got stronger together for a reason. We can stand alone too though. We all made sure that we could." This was just a simple fact. They had all trained themselves to their limits many times over. Whether it was in sparring or they were directly pushing themselves when they were apart.
Without much ability to say anything else, Clark focused on the stairs that were much longer than the precious floors. He understood that everything got larger the lower they went, but this set of stairs felt like some sort of borderline. Like it was longer because it was taking them down to an even larger floor than the previous floors.
"Duck!" Clark pulled Maria down as a rock was thrown at them. The size was the same as his head, but the rock had been thrown with a lot more force. Whatever was attacking them was strong!
'Rough fur lion- ultra rare
This is a beast that is known for the large amounts of earth energy that they possess. Because they have so much earth energy, they can store stone within their bodies and shoot it with great speed from their mouths. They are also extremely tough when it comes to their fur which is actually very fine pieces of the stone that they consume.
They are often very territorial and prefer to attack anything that gets near them. However, if they are finding that their opponent is much stronger than them, they will run without much thought. The term, cowardly like a lion fits here. Only will they be aggressive when they are the stronger beast.
They have very little growth potential other than becoming larger. The largest ever found was the size of a barn. This was due to the fact that a natural earth crystal energy vein appeared where the…'
This was all great information, but the moment that Clark read that this beast was cowardly against those stronger than it, so he used some dragon energy from Crim. The reaction was instantaneous.
The rough fur lion went from roaring and gathering more earth energy to dashing away back in to the rock massive floor that was their home. The many stones appeared to have been eaten by the other rough fur lions. They had been consuming them which initially created the oddity which was this rough and larger floor.
Another lion sprinted past the two of them in less than a minute. It seemed to be running from something else. But that also meant that Maria and Clark didn't need to go looking for their targets at all. They were right ahead.
With their targets so close, Maria and Clark prepared themselves to fight right away. But when they neared the area, they found that they had managed to follow the running rough fur lions right to the staircase leading down to the next floor. It was hard to imagine that the blood moon cultists were just rushing down. However, they soon found that this was not at all what they were doing.
The sudden cracking sound and the shaking for the entire dungeon proved that they had just been reaching a certain point. The stairs leading down to the either and ninth floors were both being broken. Something that should not be attempted. Should not be done. Not only would the most powerful beasts within the dungeon feel it, the dungeon itself might be affected.
Messing with a dungeon was a taboo unlike any others. There were rules to existence. Rules to how ever they appeared. If someone were to break a dungeon, then it took significant energy and desire to be killed to do. mostly because unseen forces would often cause the death of the one doing it through unknown means.
The person would either drop dead, space would warp killing them, or the beasts would all converge to attack them as if in a frenzy. It had been recorded happening in multiple journals before people agreed to not do such foolish things. While an unwritten rule, it was an important one to follow.
"Those do not seem like weak monsters." Maria pointed ahead where she saw six human looking cultists. But Clark and Maria could easily see what was stopping them from being human.
One and half white and half black of a body. The features were all smoothed out except for one singular large eyeball on the forehead. The other had four arms. Another had detached body parts that floated around them. The others there could have been confused for human, if their faces were not shifting. Their features literally altered themselves as they made strange movements in the air.
"They all have some form of gravity, space, or darkness affinity for energy. They are all trying to break an entire floor to collapse this area." Clark saw that this was a major risk. They could destroy the dungeon and cause everyone to die!
'Emergency quest!: extreme danger!
Requirement: do everything possible to kill the blood moon cultists who are attempting to collapse the floors of a dungeon. Or, destroy the one that is using it to descend to the twentieth floor.
Reward: ???'
There wasn't even a reward. Not that Clark cared. If the system was using exclamation points and forgetting that there would need to be a better written quest, then this was major. He had never had the system seem like this. It was like there would be something even worse happening if he did not act.
'Emergency! Act now!'
The system was even shouting out where it would normally be silent as always. It was not the kind of system that just constantly spoke out!
"Kill them now." Clark was already moving when he said this to Maria. His lunar dragon spear stabbed the black and white figure. The darkness energy that it radiated while it tried to somehow degrade the space on the stairs was intense. More than what the other beasts radiated when it came to other energies.
His appearance pierced its neck leaving it bleeding an oddly mixed black and white blood. Its movements stopped when it fell to the ground. These monsters were not even able to focus on what was happening around them. They were using all their energy and their beings to ensure that they succeeded.
Whether this was of their own will or whatever their leader was doing, did not matter. Instead, it made a clear sense that there was a greater evil plan happening. That they had the intention of moving down to the most powerful beast on the final floor or dying here.
Maria had also acted, she had stabbed one of the monsters with changing faces in the heart. It slowly fell to the ground as its face seemingly melted off like it has been hot wax the entire time.
But things had gotten worse. Their features were distorting and so were the stairs. Whatever they had been doing, they had succeeded. The other four monsters collapsed and their bodies began to disintegrate. They had used all the energies within their entire being to do whatever they had needed to do.
"Clark, I think the one you killed was one that attacked Lunar then Solar city. There were reports of one that looked like it. It was intelligent." Maria recognized the written description. The half black and half white monster with a singular eye and no other features had been seen by four people.
"Then the main group that did all that…" Clark felt the pressure on his shoulders growing. But he also felt something worse. A sense of falling. But the falling was not happening in a downward manner. It was happening in all directions as the entity of the floor and walls collapsed.
The entire dungeon went dark as Clark saw that they had somehow become disjointed. Stones falling and his viewpoint changing as he fell. Maria clutched his arm until a sudden force hit them both. They had slammed down on to the stone ground.
Looking around, Clark saw that there was a massive staircase moving through darkness toward another staircase. These were all the stairs that connected the floors, but above was not a ceiling, it was a disjointed and cracked stone space with many sections missing.
Even more terrifying, was the sheer size of the blood they had moved to. The broken stones that lay around were just small by comparison. Just little hills that had become part of the terrain.
'Emergency quest changed. Escape as soon as possible from the collapsing dungeon.'
