Chapter 707: Finally Progress
Chapter 707: Finally Progress
While it was understandable that there were many differences within their cultures, the elves were clearly a little too uppity. They were letting this limit them in the sense that they did not easily accept other races' help.
That was why Clark found himself staring at the captain who had a decent amount of power. Just staring at him and waiting for an answer to his question. It was beginning to feel like he had come all this way just to waste his time.
"Wecan leave and instead, we will visit the dwarves and help them with the knowledge we offered you. That would make them our allies first. If that's the case, we will establish a better trade with them before you. We might not even need trade with the elves at all since the dwarfs have more developed technology."
While Clark had not expected this to come from Ralph, it actually made a lot of sense. He had been learning how to forge. He was a blacksmith. A lot of the more advanced knowledge had been bought and learned from the dwarves when the humans had made contacts with them.
While still not as advanced as the dwarves due to their years of knowledge and training, the humans had adapted fairly well. Especially when it came to the alloy making processes. The humans had adapted their existing tools to make a massive leap in their forging knowledge that was showing itself in their current building potential.
Since the elves and the dwarves did not get along well, Ralph had basically just insulted the elves. It was a blatant slap to the face. Pretty much saying, if you can't help us, then you must be worse than the dwarves who we are sure will help us.
No elf would let that slide. It was a little underhanded, but made its success clear.
"We will escort you to the walls where the general will meet us. He will decide if you deserve the time with our eldest member." The captain referred to the matriarch with the fact that she was the eldest member of their city. This was a great sign of respect.
For elves, connection to nature was directly related to the time it took them to understand that connection. Many young elves would be referred to as geniuses, but still not thought of as wise or powerful because they did not have the age. It was a downfall of their society as a whole because the humans had already met a few elven geniuses that had left their people for these reasons.
Regardless, the group was suddenly finding themselves being escorted through the plains. The grasses that remained were still fairly green, but Clark was carefully examining the stalks. Each had a slight yellow tint to the lowest leaves. This showed him that the naturally occurring green grasshoppers would have a lack of food in as little as a few days. Not a few weeks.
The destruction was greater than what they had all realized though. Many more spots of the grassy plains had been burned than what the group had witnessed just on the generally outskirts. There were also places that had been hit with what appeared to be high amounts of poisonous energies or darkness decaying energies.
This left a much worse problem for the entire ecosystem because these effects would last for generations unless the elves took the time to properly repair the land as whole. Naturally, this would also consume a great amount of resources. Eventually causing the stagnation of the elven city as a whole.
Making their movements smoother, the gerd escorting the group also kept up their speed. They were able to follow the naturally created patrol routes that the elves had. It was surprising because as unfamiliar as the group was with them, Clark and the others were learning.
Jerold in particular was spotting the slightest of unbroken twigs and scrapes in the first. Just enough to show that this was not some beast trial but a clearly marked trail fro the elves to travel safely through.
Clark also began to notice that there was often the slight scent of flowers. It appeared to be dried lilac flowers. A flower that grew well in the plains because the lilac bush was shorter and received a decent amount of sun to grow here. This was another way that the elves marked safer areas when they were out in the wilderness.
Before long, the large tree that was the central anchor for the elven city became clear. It was larger than the trees in the jungle by far. So much so that it was a wonder its branches were not stretching in to the clouds. Not that they were far from that.
The idea that the elves had a world like this, with trees that were so tall they could not be climbed in years let alone a lifetime, the group was in awe. Some of the leaves were even as large as a house. This was putting aside the fact that there were homes clearly within the tree as well.
They could make out the way that the vines and branches had been grown to make homes out of them. Definitely using the assistance of beasts or uniquely magic abilities. Beyond this, the walls were made of density braided vines that had grown to house the soldiers and be used as a powerful defense.
While Clark did not take the time to use the analysis on everything, he was confident that if he were to use the analysis, he would find that these were all very unique plants that had come from the home world of the elves.
As they approached, the guards on the walls had bows trained on them. It was a little overwhelming, but exactly what was expected. This was a patrolling group that had sent communication back that they were going to bring back foreigners when they were locked down for the dangers of monsters causing destruction to their territory.
Before anything could happen though, a powerful earth energy caused the ground to tremble slightly. A man with a surprisingly sturdy physique for an elf literally rose from the soil. He had a small beast that looked like a bulb of some sort attached to his shoulder. But that beast was much tougher than what anyone would realize without Clark's analysis.
'Elder tunneling turnip- ultra rare
While most would think that this tunneling turnip was a weak beast, they would be foolish. It is an elder among its species and boasts extremely potent earth affinity. This allows it to shape and travel through the earth very easily. It also uses this to find the most fertile soul to consume the earth energy within it.
While it has the growth potential to become a titanic tunneling turnip, it will rarely become one since it lacks the unique earth energy from a century fissure. Large shifting in the deep earth that causes a potent and unique form of earth energy to bleed out. It will only appear once in a century due to the time it takes that form of energy to build up…'
Without a doubt, this was the general that had received the communication from the scouting team. From his gaze alone, they all understood that he had not believed a word written in the communication. That he had no belief that these people had come to help them and make an alliance.
"Hm, I know your human symbols. You have many of them pinned to you. So you are not lying about your affiliation. But there is one I do not know. Two in fact." The general was trying to judge them based on affiliation and generally how they reacted. His eyes looked over Clark wh was clearly the leader and gave off the strongest aura of energy.
"This is for Aphelion city. It was formerly Nova city before we took it over. The corrupted families have been dealt with and the city is being rebuilt. However, the blood moon cult had long been the cause of that corruption to some degree."
"This one, is for the universal alliance. An alliance that we have formed with the other cities. We also wish to extend that to the elves and the dwarves at some point. We have a common energy after all."
Clark saw that the mention of the blood moon cult was something that the general took note of. "The blood moon cult is on the move and we wish to snuff them out. We have information about how to track their bases. How we can find their main base eventually.
And how they are using their experiments on your people along with causing a beast wave with monsters that are destroying the nature nearby your city."
The general's eyes swerve sharp. He did not detect a lie in the least. He also saw that Clark was making sure that this was condensed for the sake of time. He could tell this from various aspects of the way energy flowed around Clark as a whole. But he could also tell that Jasmine was not fearing Clark for his words, but his strength.
A reason that he too should accept his words a little more than some random human.
"Then follow me. The matriarch will welcome any information. But use caution in your words. Only you are allowed to come. These ones stay until we accept anything." the general walked toward the vines as they opened up for him. It was an oddly mystical sight.
