Chapter 697: Important Information
Chapter 697: Important Information
"Snake skIn? Didn't you just call it a sick horned rock lizard skin? Huh, funny how the beast changed when I told you what it really was." Clark made the connect causally. However, the man seemed to start sweating a little.
"It's my age getting to me. The mind isn't as sharp as it was when I was younger. You know how it is. Reasons to settle down elsewhere to retire." the man began to reach toward something under his table. But Clark was already prepared.
"I think you should take that hand back before you regret what you think you are capable of doing. Well, regret what you try doing." Clark slightly released some of his strength. The dragon energy in his body that was always shared with him rang out in a small wave causing many people to look over.
"Damn Nova Academy Brat!" The man swore as he flipped the table up. An odd tattoo formed on his face that had been hidden.
It appeared that the man had hidden his true face somehow which prompted Clark to use the analysis as he dodged the wooden table and the few beasts materials that had been on tip of it.
"False face beetle- rare
The false face beetle is a very rare beast that is normally found in the deserts. It was raised by an ancient civilization of humans to protect their faces from the vast sandstorms within that desert. During that time, a sub species of the beast developed that could use light and earth energies to alter its appearance.
It will latch on to the face of their tamer and alter that face. But if it is discovered, it will often lose concentration. This will cause the natural black patterns of its shell to be seen over the face of the tamer it serves.
While it has absolutely zero battle ability, it is an excellent beast for spies, or those within to hide themselves in public. It also has a chance to grow to be a more powerful beast that can strengthen the body of its tamer by using the earth energy. If it can do so, it will have a tamer that can hide its face and have double their physical defenses or strength…'
"Really? I didn't think you would try to run instead of using that dagger you had under the table. I Really scared you enough," Clark leaped forward and showed off his much greater agility. In a swift swing of his leg, he kicked the man's legs out from under him. Furthermore, his leg arched back downwards and slammed the man's body in to the ground.
The attack had been so swift and powerful that those witnessing it had nothing to do but drip their jaws. Even the rest of Clark's group were only able to move to his side because they were so used to seeing his strength at work.
"I found a suspicious person. I figure he isn't a merchant at all but one of the Mourne family members or guards that escaped. Surprising that any of them made it out. But with his beast, well, he could hide his face."
"This trail is occupied by the Nighthawk family, what do you have to say for the disturbance?" the five guards that noticed this commotion did not just attack. They had witnessed the incident and realized there was more to it. Plus, they saw the pins on the group's chests. They had clear evidence that they were supported by multiple cities. The rumors also superseded the group.
"Just caught a fleeing criminal that managed to get away from aphelion city. He was a servant of the Mourne family who were in cahoots with the blood moon cult. I managed to catch him in a few lies before he was exposed."
"How did you even know!"
"Oh, so you were from the Mourne family. Thanks for proving that right out in the open. Now tell me, what do you know?" Clark pushed his foot down a little more to make his point.
"Clark is being a little mean." Isa mumbled a little as she realized that Clark had become a little more brutal than what he had been.
"No he's not. He is pushing down with his leg on the muscle and not near the spine. He won't cause any permanent damage. He is using force, but appropriately before he has the information he needs." Since Maria had so much knowledge about the body after learning in depth about healing, she could see what Clark was doing and how.
"A very wise move indeed." Ella approved after hearing what Maria had to say.
"Listen, they were not letting me move up. I didn't even have a chance to get strong because they said my best was only useful for gathering information from the other families. After I failed to get in to the Mane family, they just sent me on errands to cause trouble between other families they took over." the man felt the pressure as Clark pushed down.
He would have never imagined that someone so young has aso much force behind his foot.
"And?" there was a slightly more villainous tone to Clark's voice. It worked perfectly to make the man panic even more.
"And I can tell you how they did it and what families they stole goods from. They even have a few hidden places in the city. So you can just let me go, right!?" The man's pleading was enough for the guards to understand that he was telling the truth and was definitely scum.
"What do you know about their activities with the blood moon cult. If you ran errands, you should know something?"
There was a chill that ran through everyone's spines as they realized that the man had gone deathly pale. It was the fear that came with this line of questioning. They could sense what kind of fear that was. Not just a fear of death. A fear of tortuous death that came with what could happen to him if he spilled these secrets.
"We can always make these witnesses tell the rumors that you told us everything. Then they will come for you regardless of you being honest. But if you tell us everything, then you will have a nice safe prison cell. Guarded by nice and powerful Aphelion city guards. They might even feed you two meals a day."
The words sounded much worse causing the man to go even paler. He was at a lose lose. But one would keep him alive.
"I did errands. But I also dropped packages. One was full of beast eggs. They made clicking sounds. They were dug up. They were gathered for the cult as a payment.
At least a hundred of them were hunted and gathered from around the farms of Nova. They want to hatch the grasshopper eggs when there isn't any food. Some experiment."
"If they manage to hatch at the end of the season, the green leaping grasshopper will not progress to the brown locust form. Instead, it will immediately use the nutrients from the egg and its own body to become a berserk locust. It will even eat its own limbs to sate its massive and maddened hunger." Ella chimed in with the worry that Clark already had in his mind.
That they were gathering these for a worse reason than what could be natural.
"You know those monsters you left behind in Nova? What do you think happens if those eggs are mixed with humans and set in the world?" Clark punched down and knocked the man out. He had to, or else his disgust would win the better side of him over.
"I know that this is asking a lot of the Nighthawk guard force, but you will be paid for this additional service. Send this man to Aphelion and have someone escort us to our transportation. We are in dire need to get to the elven City sooner than later."
No one needed an explanation of what had just happened. They all recognized that the pan of the blood moon cult was to simply take down the elven city with these monsters. That they were going to make even more monsters using the eggs. That their experiment would lead to the death of many while also ensuring that one race coming to this world was wiped out.
Without a single hesitation, the guards began to bind the man as a prisoner to be transported. They also split up with two leading the group ahead. The other witnesses hearing this information began to spread it. This was important and potentially life threatening.
While most merchants dealt in goods, they could share this information from some easy money. That wasn't a bad thing though. The more people that knew this, the safer it would be. The blood moon cult was not done and this escapee from the Nova City battle had proven to be a very good thing indeed.
