Chapter 679: Aphelion
Chapter 679: Aphelion
"You are saying that we need to handle two threats then." General Mane spoke up for the first time. His rough voice even more full of gravel than before.
The tense feeling in the air alos made everyone feel that they had stepped in to a whole new world. One that was much riskier to live in.
Besides the fact that demons had been myths of sorts, when people began to grow the cities that they lived, when they started to research, they found some truth. Demons had always been there. They had managed to sneak in here and there. The ways that they made deals then disappeared meant that they were temporary.
However, when they appeared, there was always a great loss for humanity. This only became more evident after humans met the other races. Elves and dwarves had their own run ins with the demon race. If it was even worth calling them a race. They would be better off called monsters if that term could fit them better.
The elves had proof that powerful demons existed and wanted to infiltrate other worlds using the dungeons. They were the pathways that connected lost sections of worlds along with entire worlds. That was how the races were able to make their own cities on other worlds.
The dwarves had shared their own examples of demons. Some brutal that would appear trying to kill all that they could no matter what species of beast or race they encountered. The elves were more often encountering demons that manipulated and tried to cause the elves to self destruct as a race.
The humans were the ones that encountered the deals more so. Demons trying to spread their demonic energy for payments. The payment always outweighed the benefits though. Every recorded instance was full of death and despair.
If someone made a deal for power, then their family would often be taken. If they made a deal for something like love, they would lose that ability to feel and even end up killing their loved one. Many similar instances had happened out in the distant cities or smaller villages.
Defeating demons was not something simple either. The weakest could be killed. They were the equivalent of rats. An invasive species of rat that snuck in. These were often imps, lesser demons that somehow snuck through the cracks of an old dungeons and would try to trick and kill things.
The demons to be afraid of were the ones that were powerful enough to make a deal to stay in a world even though they were somehow being pushed out. That was the fact that really united the races on their stance with demons.
Whatever force had allowed the dungeons to connect worlds, was always pushing the demon race away. It was somewhat like a child that had learned how to get in to a room they should not be in. Their parents always tried to keep them out, but as children did, they found ways to sneak through their legs or around the corner of their eyes.
"No, it sounds more like two threats are using one another. A threat we know will always be there, and one we must eliminate because it has grown out of control." Clara's opinion made everyone nod in agreement.
The demon race was known, they were always going to be a problem. The blood moon cult on the other hand… Well, they should have been snuffed out much sooner than this. They had to be dealt with sooner than later. Especially if they were trying to get demons to give them power.
"Then we can use this as an opportunity. We have to hunt down the blood moon cult along with the other cities. If we manage to handle them, then we can prevent the threats they are bringing. Because of the kind of threats they are making for the world, we can get even stronger allies."
When Ella spoke up, everyone looked at her waiting for more. But Clark had already understood what she was telling them. "You want us to join forces with the elves and the dwarves. That way we can handle the blood moon cult that has also caused them problems. Especially if we mention that they are making deals with demons to make monsters."
There was another collective nod. The hope that they could use this as a chance to more than just with the other human cities was spectacular.
The loss that Nova city and the other cities had gone through when the blood moon cult had attacked years ago and now was too much to add up at one time. Now that they were a clearer and larger threat to the entire world here, it made a great amount of sense to handle them with the greatest strength possible.
The elves were a more nature loving race. They would gladly help fight the demons which could care less about such things. That had even been responsible for changing their fellow elves in to monsters. Demonic monsters that had gone against their vast forests full of vibrant nature.
The dwarves also knew the demons were destroyed. Crushing their experimentations. Crushing their mechanical dreams. Crushing their massive amounts of advanced technology that has taken years to work on. To create.
"That sums it all up. We have a goal now. Ally with the dwarven city and the elven city. After that, we can use whatever knowledge that scouts have uncovered to handle the blood moon cult. It will also sponsor many of the rebuilding efforts for Nova City. especially the bonds with the other cities too.
We can forge a permanent alliance."
General Green sounded proud that they had come together for this sort of decision. But she had also sparked a new idea for Clark. "I think we shouldn't have a city lord. No one person in charge. I think if we want a real alliance, we should think of a way to completely change everything. Forget Nova academy and Nova city.
Let's think bigger."
"Many of us gave up our last names when we decided to put everything on the line. I laid my last name to rest with my parents spirits. It felt right. But what if we did the same with our city as a whole? It would show our allies that we have the will to become new while leaving the last era in the past."
The eyes fell on Clark. They were all showing the same curiosity. They wanted to hear what he was proposing.. What he was thinking when he wanted everyone to look at the city and the alliance. What he wanted them to represent. The depths of how he believed they should feel.
"Right now, we are the farthest we can be from the light. We can only return closer to it. It reminds me of a term for that. When a world is farthest from the sun and can only return toward it." Clark sounded like some star watched. But they still listened. Many cities based their names on what was beyond the sky.
"Aphelion city and the universal alliance. We can always have a path toward the light to follow and make the entirety of this city in to one that represents the universal alliance as a whole. That way, every single city and leader joining us, can take a seat on the universal alliance council. Aphelion can also become the hub for all knowledge and futures."
"Start from the farthest place from the sun, and travel toward that light. A good goal to have." He smiled a little. For whatever reason, he could feel that this was all the right way to go about things. Whatever it was, he felt that this name was exactly the reason he sat here right now.
"I agree with that. A new start needs a new name and a new city. I didn't like Nova anyways. A fiery nova from the sun that destroyed everything? That might be how we ended up with this ruined city." Clara smirked as she stood up. She had plans for how they would bedouin the next steps.
How they would begin putting their plans in to motion.
"Then I agree too. No one else here looks unhappy with that. You kids are the future anyways. Just let yourselves take the lead where you can and learn as much as possible. But you, Ella, come have a word with me." General Green finished the meeting and anyone's lingering thoughts. She had made her shift in to mother mode.
For a moment, Clark wondered what they would do. But he already knew what they had to do. "When are we going to leave? Aren't we going to head toward one of those cities?" Maria had looked Clark dead in the eyes with a slightly mischievous smile. She knew very well that he wasn't going to let anyone else take this new adventure from them.
"The two are a little far from one another. But we should be able to get there pretty easily." Clark laughed a bit before standing up and looking at the rest of the group who looked more than ready to go.
