Chapter 678: Playing With Fire

Chapter 678: Playing With Fire

With the situation within Nova City, one thing that had been tossed aside were formalities. This greatly made Clark and the rest of the group more comfortable.

From the time they returned here until now, everything had been planned out and pretty much handed to them so that they could push ahead. Now, they were in uncharted territory. Using formalities to be able to handle the following matters would have been a harsh learning curve.

Therefore, when the section of medical healing tent that General Mane had been in was turned in to a rough meeting place with a single table that everyone could see from their bed or chair, it was much better.

There were a few things that the group would surely want to ask Clark later, since he and them had not really spoken about what they had done. Yet, he had a feeling that this would come up as they spoke about the facts that General Green had discovered some unsavory things while she was outside the City.

"First of all, the monsters were handled. All of them were." Clara spoke up to break the silence. There were a few professors and leaders of guard forces that were sitting on the edges while Clara, General Green, and General Mane were the central figures. Clark as well with his group behind him. That made him a little uncomfortable, but that was just how it would be.

"I have the reports from every area we targeted. While most of the Murne family forces were handled, those that chose to forsake humanity as a whole were dealt with. Some of the remaining Mourne family forces tried to escape the city and were captured. Others were taken in to custody."

"We found that the most concentration of monsters ended up being the Mourne family mansion. This is to be expected since that was where the most trusted of their forces were. The few that were in other areas appeared to be there to cause trouble if things went south in this battle."

"They managed to injure a minority of people due to the assistance from the Green family guards returning. On top of that, Terra City, Celestial Sea City, and Nebula City each sent a hundred individuals to help us. Some of those have even divided up with General Green's son, The newly name Horizon Merchant troupe led By Isa's father, and Professor Wright from Nova Academy."

"The white robbed healers also answered the call. They sent double the healers that they have ever sent anywhere. They also did not request payment. Instead, they wish to be part of the city when it is rebuilt. The same is to be said for Professor Wright. She is most likely to be elected the next head of the academy."

"This leads us to the crux of the issue. The monsters that were handled by the groups had evidence of experimentation. Some of them did not properly meld with beasts to become monsters. They exploded in bursts of energy, were mutilated and perished in pain, or became monsters as we all witnessed. Why the academy will be important is due to the much more focused research area."

The laboratories, alchemy and otherwise, will be there to refocus our goals. Therefore, we are pouring our focus in to the expansion and rebuilding of the academy to support those efforts."

Clara made it clear that she had handled a lot of what needed to be done to make all of this happen. She had hidden her amazing set of developed communication and organizational skills. Paired with her unyielding focus, it was hard to see what she was putting her mind to failing. There were so many people she had found connections with to properly put them together.

"That source of monster changing, the vials used, that is where my issues arise." General Green saw that she had been set up with a proper introductory explanation. Everyone already heard of the materials siphoned away from Nova City by the Mourne family.

"The leads to the blood moon cult base had been tracked due to suspicious merchant carriages heading opposite of normal trade routes. The multitude of carriages grew as tensions did within the city. All explaining that they feared the cultits knowing their usual routes. Naturally, we sent scouts of our own to see where so many carriages would be going."

"When it was discovered that these carriages were being brought in to a cavern, we mobilized forces. I took my best guards to explore that area. I found experimentation of materials and beasts alike. Not to the degree which we expected, so we believe there is a larger laboratory dedicated to creating more monsters."

"What we did find was seventy monsters. Seventy cultists. Some recently changed and others fairly weak. They used materials to facilitate the fusion of themselves and the beasts they were bonded to. Some were in perilous situations because they had deadly beasts that overtook their bonds. Others were kidnapped and forced to become members of the cult."

"One thing was certain, the crate we found of vials that match the ones we found when we arrived back here, was the source. The blood moon cult has clearly found a way to facilitate a fusion of beast and tamer. Iot is unstable and has a low success rate, but it is extremely dangerous."

With this, General Green placed the vial on the table.

Clark felt this mind racing. Too many things had been thrown at him. The rest of the group was much the same. Hearing that some people were around the city and outside it to ensure that scouting and growth happened was amazing. They were well ahead of where the group had expected things to be whatsoever.

On top of that, hearing that Professor Wright had returned and was remaining outside the city to help even more was amazing. Beyond that, she was also considered to be the next headmaster of the academy was spectacular.

She had not only just show the group how she cared for students, she had made it clear that she would put her life on the line for them. This was what a professor should be. Someone willing to give all that they possibly could and more to their students. With her as an example to follow, every professor could rise higher than they had been able to before.

None of this trumped what Clark had seen and learned when he used the analysis on the vial though. His mind had come to a stand still.

'Vial of demonic mimic blood- demonic

Due to a deal with a demon, the mimic that this blood was taken from was forcefully fused with demonic energies. While normally, this would kill a beast or cause them to be altered in some way, it instead caused the mimic to become wildly unstable.

This was all due to a contract between the tamer and the demon to allow the experimentation of beast and humans to become one. The demon's payment related to the failed experiments' energies.

The blood causes a violent change in the energies contained within the binds of a tanner and a beast. This forces them to fuse together. It will often cause death and various side effects. When successful, it will cause a monster to be born. Often with much more power than before. But it can also greatly alter the energy affinities along with other factors.

There is a small chance of demonification causing the monster to become a lesser demon subordinate of the demon that created the contract in the first place. Using this blood is extremely dangerous and is strongly recommended not to be done…'

'Main quest: demon invader

Requirements: defeat the demon that has been welcomed in to the world with the goal to allow the demon race to invade the entire world.

Reward: ???'

Clark saw the immediate quest that generated. He was surprised but also understood what the blood moon cult had begun to play with. They had begun to do something that should not be done. That was against the races that had managed to remain peaceful in this home world that they lived.

"As everyone knows, I see more than I let on. So let me ask everyone one thing, what do you know of demons?" This was a single sentence that made the air in the room ten times heavier. Every single figure that understood anything about these dangerous creatures knew well that Clark was insinuating something worse than what they had expected.

"That is a demonic mimic blood. It forces the bonds to be corrupted in a way and bring beasts and tamer together. It was made through a contract with a demon. I can see it. That means that the blood moon cult is evil, but also being used by a demon."

There was only silence still as he said this. His group all trusted what Clark said. But many of the others were skeptical. "I know you might not trust me, so I already wrote explanations, description, and beast plans for every beast in this room. Even General Green. You never showed off your beast to anyone in its natural form, but I saw it."
