Spirit Taming

Chapter 621: poor choice

Chapter 621: poor choice

There was a very good reason that Grace was saying this to the nearly unconscious Isa. She had looked to Isa for teaching and knowledge. When it came to controlling ice energy and creating things with such energy, she had become somewhat of a proteges. The very same that they had all become when it came to Maria teaching them archery.

But the reason that Grace was apologizing, was because Isa had warned everyone not to attempt to fuse themselves with their beasts like she did.

This wasn't because Isa was trying to protect family secret techniques or anything dramatic like that. It was much more seriousness.

Because of Isa's family having the unique physique to be able to open unique taming spaces and also being able to fuse with their beasts. This was something unique to their family bloodline and had even been touchy in the past. Some of the more distant family members had failed to do so in any means meaning that it was possible to be born without the unique physique.

Hence her brothers being very different from her. Specifically the jewel merchant.

Regardless, that did not mean that others had not tried to force themselves to fuse with their beasts.

There had been incidents where their merchant family had been attacked or had their methods copied to be stolen and used against them by competitors.

The results of that had not been monsters. Some people would expect that they would become some version of fused beast and human hybrids. The same way that the blood moon cult created monsters. This was somewhat true, but the methods were different.

The fusing of energies was an overlapping in souls based on the bonds of tamer and beast. The tamer's body acted as the counter to it so that they were not fused together in a horrendous way. Therefore, the physique that Isa had was a protection.

When the others attempted to use the same methods as Isa's family did, they would end up crippling their mind and soul. This left their body to drastically break down. Muscles, bones, and skin would become fragile. As if it was tissue paper that had become wet then stomped on. Even the lightest feather could cause them to perish from drastic bleeding and injury.

Isa had been told this at a young age and she had been fortunate not to see this happen. But her father had seen it happen. Therefore, he had burned this lesson in to all of his family's minds so that they would not allow any one they cared fro to attempt something like this.

"This might hurt so make sure you catch us." Grace felt the frost finch land on her head. Slowly, ice gathered all over her as large ice wings formed.

Wind burst around them, but this was not natural. Her body clearly rejected the high amount of wind and ice energy that was not controlled by the bond they shared. Even the frost finch chirped out in a screech of pain. It felt the pain that Grace was taking on by partially mimicking Isa's abilities.

"Freeze before me and feel our blades." Grace's words were spoken with an eerie vibration. Clark recognized that this was because the air in her lungs was forced out of her when she spoke. But it was also the odd screeching of the frost finch missing with her voice.

To follow her orders, the ice base that Isa had created froze at an incredible speed. The ice energy directly combated the warm water and generally warm misty air of the violent jungle. Along with this, multiple blades of compressed air shot out as the ice wings began to melt off her back leaving larger scars across her black.

When Grace immediately collapsed in to Ralph's arms, he could tell that the marks of the ice wings had burned her. It was ice that had been too cold causing the markings. However, he could not say a thing. Instead, his face became that of stone before he dashed across the already melting bridge of ice. The other could only follow him.

The first finch appeared to be unable to do anything. Grace had not opened a taming space and chosen to focus on her and her frost finch first. That was respectable because their bond was very unique. That was also why they had been able to get the first finch to grow in to a frost finch all together.

"Clark, move your ass and tell me what is happening to Grace!" The speed that Ralph had charged across the bridge and crossed the river was insane. No one had realized he could move so quickly. But it just showed that he had long decided what was truly important to him.

The others took up immediate defensive positions as they reached the bank. Brad naturally began scaling the bank and dragged Ralph up since Ralph needed help while carrying Grace.

"Idiot! She's too cold and she has been burned by the cold. She didn't have the resistance to do that and her beast couldn't even take an armor or wings form like that. She even tried to fuse with-"

Maria smacked Ralph with a heavy hand. He didn't even have a chance to speak again because Isa had called Lit to help heal. But the injuries were not healing. Instead, Grace's breathing was weakening as ice started to appear in her hair and arms. Isa was not much better since Reese was helping her drunkenly stumble to the side.

The lack of energy that Isa had was taking its toll on her. But she had known she could not call out the winter witch like that. The winter witch was able to use powerful energies and skills. Isa had to be able to balance that but had done so in a rush. The result was her unhelpful state and would stay that way for some time.

The brutal crocodiles were nearby but they did not leave the water while the group was clearly on the higher ground and ready to lash out. They were kings in the water, not on the land.

The only thing that Clark could rely on was the analysis.

'Grace-...

Suffering from the soul chill illness due to abuse of ice and wind energies. Due to the forceful channeling of high amounts of ice energy directly from the bonded beast completely broke the natural barriers that protect the soul. The further enhancement of that energy with the main affinity the beast has for wind caused the illness to grow.

This illness left a seed of pure ice and wind energies within the heart causing the soul to constantly be stressed by the energies. This disruption between body and soul causes ice energy and wind energy to attempt to enter the body while also weakening the spirit beast.

Countering this illness is thought to be impossible due to the lack of knowledge in general. However, the best treatment is extreme heat.

Using heat and fire energy specifically, it can cause the pure ice energy within the heart influencing the wind energy to become weaker. It will not cause it to dissipate as this would sever the bond with the spirit beast that provided this energy.

The extreme heat may cause burns but it will allow the illness to be managed after the body's main functions are returned to natural order. After that, there are multiple methods to manage this but they all require powerful and unique herbs to…'

This was all Clark needed. He ignored the system notifying him of quests and anything else. None of that mattered. It was even surprising that there was a solution. From what Clark could understand, Grace had done something that was both wrong and well above what she should be able to do.

Just seeing that her first finch had a pained grip on her shoulder proved that damage had been done to the both of them to a deeper level than expected.

"Ralph, you are going to hate this,m but it's the only way. Make a fire all around Grace. It will burn her, but it will help her get control of the rampaging wind and ice energy in her heart. The ice is freezing her while the wind is causing that energy to become more chaotic and keep away the body's natural healing abilities. Can you do that?"

Ralph didn't hesitate for a second. The dragon welp and molten boar were out of the taming space on full alert. Ralph was also pulling out every single piece of flammable fire starter or material he could burn without issue. He would do whatever it took.

"Maria, be on the ready to help but also give Isa some potions. Jerold, Reese, Brad, you three are guarding us. I will be watching everything and adjusting what's needed." Clark wished he could have Crim help, but the dragon flames might be too dangerous. The dragon energy was not delicate. But they were in for a dangerous event, that was to say the least.
