Chapter 598: Shout of Annoyance
Chapter 598: Shout of Annoyance
"You rotten pile of garbage!" The large shout of annoyance made Clark's head snap up. He recognized the voice before hearing the sound of something charging through the nearby dried brush.
"Don't think you can just walk through here without caution!" Clark yelled back and used the black lightning spear to guard against the familiar tusks on the molten boars' head.
He had deftly used his strength to push the molten boar off course and away from him and the poison vine cluster that Shy had control of. To anyone else, it looked like the poison vine cluster was about to strike him. But in reality, Shy was just showing Clark the higher degree of control she had since she had been getting stronger a lot faster lately.
"Of course it had to be you. Only you would have a beast that managed to control one of those stupid things that keep trying to eat me!" Ralph was clearly in a rage. His skin seemed to steam with the fire energy that his molten boar was sharing with him. The two had been using it to burn off the poisons that were fired at them. Not to mention the acids too that didn't seem to harm Ralph at all.
"I didn't think that you had such a high immunity to acid. That must be because of all the toxic metal fumes and such in your partner's stomach. Must have made you stronger without anyone even noticing." Clark was very impressed. He had not expected that Ralph had managed to develop a strength that even he didn't have. Let alone thought to train.
"That's all you have to say?" Ralph lost all his steam. He had been on a brutal fighting spree and now just found that all of his energy was a waste. Clark had just flattened it out like it was all nothing.
"So, I have been moving toward the larger and larger vines. I think we can easily take down the beats controlling everything. Just need to get there. Devi has already been weakening it, see?" Clark pointed out the scene of Devi biting one of the vines and it shriveling itself up to cut off connection. It was enough to make Ralph raise his eyebrows in surprise.
"We didn't think that this was possible either. But here we are." Clark agreed since he had the same expression of surprise when this all happened. But the two of them both shared a knowing glance that this was very useful.
"This cuts off the connections to the other beasts around too?" Ralph pointed at the bodies of what had been connected poison vine clusters. Naturally, Clark nodded since this would cut off their connection and the main beast's control of the nutrient gatherers.
"Then we are charging right in. I need to see that stupid thing get burned to pieces." What Clark did not realize was that before Ralph got to him, he had battled a decent bit.
Between moving in to the dungeon without anyone else and the fact that Ralph was constantly hacking at vines, Clark had not realized Ralph had fallen in to a trap. One of the swamp acid plants was very large and in waiting. The size was enough for both Ralph and his molten boar to fall inside.
Unfortunately for the swamp acid pitcher plant, it had chosen the worst possible prey to trap. Ralph and the molten boar both rejected any potential damage from the acid within its stomach. The toxic acids that formed within the molten boar's stomach was much stronger than some swamp plant beast.
Especially since Ralph constantly had to clean off the pores and metal ingots that were made from the alloys that the molten boar melded together within its stomach. That Was how the resistance formed so powerfully for Ralph. It was unintentional.
This had led to a scene right from any child's story of slaying a dragon or mythical giant monster. Instead, Ralph had been the one to slice out of the beast's stomach and shout in victory as he attacked an entire area of swamp acid pitcher plants which had made their own field of traps. The connected thorny vines had given away their positions.
With the easy victory, Ralph had gone full battle mode. He attracted many of the smaller beasts to him and began to chop them to pieces. They were much easier to hack at than the larger thorny vines. Especially when Ralph realized that the more he cut away, the more that he was able to gather for materials.
He had noticed some of the poisons and the acids that he might be able to use at a single glance. That was just the level that his forging had reached.
"What do you make of that one then? It looks like it is barely able to hold itself up." Ralph changed what Clark had been thinking about as a much easier trip in to the center of this dungeon. He already understood that it was one larger floor and nothing else to worry about. But now, it seemed that in finding Ralph, he had managed to attract more trouble.
'Vicious fly trap- rare
The vicious fly trap eats more than just flying type beasts. It is able to consume any beast that is not directly opposing in typing. It goes out of its way to uproot itself once a year and move hunting areas. They have developed long and tough vine necks that allow them to hold up the massive traps that are their heads.
The older the plant beast gets, the more heads it will have. Often it will stretch its necks away from the main roots to allow for a larger hunting radius. They also eat constantly since it only takes a few hours to break down the food they capture within their maw.
Unlike the swamp acid pitcher plant, the vicious fly trap has multiple rows of serrated teeth that they use to grind prey in to a mess of paste. This allows their body to break them down more easily. When they eat something that they can not break down, they will pour it out with a stronger acid from deeper in their bodies.
This is also how they can shoot acid at their escaping prey if they do not manage to trap it.
Unlike many plant type beasts, this one has a way to see. It is able to sense the changes in heat due to an extremely weak fire typing that it was able to awaken instead of a light affinity like most plant type beasts can awaken.
It has a great usage for making saws. Some people will hunt the swamp lands that these beasts live to be able to gather their discarded teeth to be able to forge useful saws from. Especially since the dull teeth can easily be replaced without paying a blacksmith to reforge them…'
"There are multiple heads. That neck of its stretches back to the core. We need to destroy that if we want to kill this one. I have a feeling that this is similar to the type of beast that is holding this dungeon hostage." Clark spoke quickly before skirting to the side. He had the simple plan to cut away this heart of the vicious fly trap. That would be one issue out of the way.
However, a thrown ax beat him to it. Ralph hadn't just been practicing close combat. He had started throwing ax arts so that he would be able to more easily attack from a distance. He didn't want to have to rely on grace for the ranged attacks using her frost finch and the wind. It just felt unfair to him.
But the ax managed to cut through one head, the others reacted faster than either Clark or Ralph expected though. When they had thought that own head was down, four more had pushed through the dead bushes and wood nearby. Their maws opening up as they lashed out to swallow the two whole.
"Oh, you really had to bring attention to us!" Clark shouted at Ralph before dodging away from the incoming attacks of two of the vicious fly trap heads.
"Says the one who just jumped in the dungeon behind us. You just wanted me to control the mess so you could show up and take credit." Ralph responded with blunt annoyance before he used his other ax to slashed through one neck and dodge the other. The molten boar charging ahead and crushing the one that Ralph has dodged.
Meanwhile, Clark and Devi had acted in unison. The poison vines that Shy controlled had latched on to one head that Devi was biting over and over to steal away energy. Clark slashing the other head in to four pieces with two crescent moon slashes.
"And we still aren't even sure where the center of this beast is." Clark grumbled as he heard more noise heads. It was surely an older vicious fly trap which meant that they were getting closer to the source of everything.
