Spirit Taming

Chapter 597: Drawing Attention

Chapter 597: Drawing Attention

The fact that every time Deviu bit down on to  small enough vine that it shriveled up and cut itself off was amazing. This meant that the beast controlling these thorny vines was definitely feeling the dangers that came with Devi's chilling bites.

The further fact that Devi gained some energies from this was even more important. Especially since Devi was stocking a ton of soul and death energy to be able to grow. He had clearly felt Clark's intentions and desires to grow stronger.

The supportive feelings only pushed Devi to begin preparing even more. That was why he showed a lot of emotion upon realizing that along their way within this broken dungeon, he could gain a lot. Especially with the fact that there were many linked beasts that had a myriad of unique energies that could be converted in to food for him.

The linked beasts were the crux of the main beast's weakness. It could gain nutrients from the smaller beasts, that was a fact. However, it would never be smart enough to realize that it could also lose a lot.

Every bite from Devi was weakening it at the core. Hence why it reacted to cut off that part. If anyone was outside the dungeon watching, they would have seen smaller thorny vines dying off here and there. Something that would only appear when the source had died.

Clark could sense the growing determination and pursued the beast that he had to fight and defeat. He knew that the sooner he reached the source the better. This was what led him to find the next odd plant beast that was linked to the larger thorny vines.

'Swamp Acid pitcher- rare

The acid pitcher is a plant type beast that is normally earth and poison. However, this is a variant known as the swamp acid pitcher. It has strong poison, water, and weak earth affinity. Because of this, it has a much more toxic acid within its pitcher.

The methods used by this beast are often digging in the ground and making itself a trap. Many beasts will fall inside the pitcher and get trapped to melt in to nutrients for the beast. However, this can also happen when the swamp acid pitcher empties its acid from a tree branch on top of a beast. This is normally the method of hunting they use during droughts in the swamp lands they live in.

There are multiple variants of this beast due to their ability to live in jungles, swamp lands, and even in some deserts. This makes each of their bodies full of unique nutrients and alchemical ingredients. The acid within them being the most valuable for alchemy and even for forging.

The alchemy methods used require the acid because the acids can bring out impurities and create better potions. The forging methods revolve around degrading certain brittle metals to allow them to become tougher and even more flexible depending on the metal and the techniques used….'

There were more details, but Clark was very impressed. The purple spotted pitcher plant he was looking at would easily be ignored if it wasn't pouring out its acid on the vines around it. This was clearly it sharing the nutrients it had gathered with the larger beast that governed the dungeon.

Unfortunately, this had left it wide open to attack. Shy sent out shadow threads and held it still the moment that Clark threw the black lightning spear. In a flash, the spear had pierced through the swamp acid pitcher. The acid fell around the base of the vines and the larger thorny vine move slightly to absorb it.

Again, it was unfortunate for that beast that devi bit right down ahead of where the vine would have absorbed.

This caused all the nutrients absorbed to feed Devi with additional energies. It was as if Clark had just boosted the rewards from Devi. death energy from killing the swamp acid pitcher and then the soul energy from the nutrients and the main beasts connected to the thorny vines. An amazing combination that made both Devi and Clark shiver slightly in amazement.

They had not expected that this would work so well. Clark moved to pick up his black lightning spear and felt that he was reinvigorated. The discovery of a new way to get stronger faster was making him feel that he was destined to be here. It was the system that guided him, yes, but he was meant to come here and discover such a thing.

As if it reacted to a new threat, one strong enough to upend it, the thorny vines seemed to shit slightly all at once. This brought out the sounds of moving leaves, crumbling bushes, and even a few trees falling.

The area Clark was in became even easier to see past since there were literally trees falling that cleared his sightline. But the things that had been called out were clearly the reasons for the vines moving so much.

'Poison vine cluster- rare

The poison vine cluster is a beast that is made up of poisonous vines. It is completely beastial in attitude and actions. It is a vine that was exposed to too much energy and became a beast. It can not breed and is not able to be a spirit beast since it is only created due to abnormal natural formations.

It is easily controlled by the other beasts that have connections with nature because these beasts focus on the awakened bestial instincts instead of being able to develop intelligence or to act as plants. It's only goals are to feed and grow.

It does this by attacking with its mass of vines and dragging in prey to crush. That is why it takes on the form of rolling vines which constantly dig in to the ground to draw out the moisture it needs. If it is in an area that is too dry, it will perish easily due to not being rooted properly.

To defeat such a beast, it is best to chop it to pieces so that the energies within its many twisted vines are released. However, it can only be beaten if it is separated from, anything that provides it the water needed to fill its vines. Hence why it has a water and poison typing.

Its body can not be used for anything other than alchemy or as a material for poison type beasts to consume. This is because foreign with it will release the energies within and they will dissipate leaving ash or plant mush behind…'

Three balls of writhing vines covered in a purple goo moved toward Clark. He saw them stabbing some smaller vines in the ground as they approached. Their attachments to the large thorny vines clearly being how they were controlled. They radiated a threat much stronger than the roaming nutrient collectors he had seen before.

The image of him being dragged within and crushed by the vine balls made Clark feel that it was more than possible to die when facing these three. Yet, when they neared him, he grinned. Devi even started laughing even though the laughter would not cause any effect of beasts like this without ears. But it was just out of pure battle adrenaline.

"Shy, take one to play with." Clark saw the shadow threads flare around Shy before she jumped from his arms and disappeared within the shadows. She was going to use her skills to control one of these after she had defeated it with Clark and Devi's assistance.

"You will make a very good gift for the rest of my group. Poison for Lit to eat, Maria to use in alchemy, and for the armored chameleon to eat. A very good gift." Clark didn't dodge as ten angry oozing purple vines lashed out. Instead, he took a calm step forward. The vines had been stopped in their tracks by a hundred shadow threads coming from the shadows within the swamp he treads.

The result of being halted was that Clark started his meditation. The perfect amount of time to begin his flow of storms. To slash and cut away the fines in an almost artful dance with his spear. The might of his moves would make anyone think of a dragon looking down on them from the sky. Waiting to swallow its prey whole.

Sliced vines flew as one of the three beasts were cut apart in perfectly trained spear arts. The roar of a dragon was filling Clark's ears. He wasn't sure if it was Crim dreaming within his taming space and watching Clark fight or if it was the spear arts he used. But the roar in his ears pushed him to continue his slashing.

Meanwhile, one of the remaining two poison vine clusters found itself severed from the control of the beast behind this dungeon. Instead, it found that it was unable to do anything. Its body was wrapped in hundreds of shadow threads. Completely stopping its movements and digging deep in to the vines it had once controlled. Shy had caught her own prey to use as she desired.
