Chapter 556: Great Lakes
Chapter 556: Great Lakes
The face of the treant moved but not a word escaped. Clearly it appeared to understand what Clark was saying, but its body was still not fully showing itself. It was still partially below the ground manipulating the surrounding trees.
"Don't do anything dumb. Just let it get comfortable. It has been sleeping in the same position for over a hundred years." Clark saw the tenant move its body slightly from side to side. The other trees also followed this odd sway before eventually the treant ceased moving.
Before they could say anything else, the group found themselves watching multiple roots crack through the earth exposing a large section of rock. But the rock wasn't normal at all. It was stone that would be very hard to break due to the density and the roots holding it in place. Dirt had just been moved to cover it.
"Thank you for giving us the chance. We will solve this problem sooner than later." Clark stepped forward but found that the rest of the group had been blocked by branches and roots. Clark could see that the trant was not so trusting as to just let the entire group head down in to the water.
"In that case, please let Ralph come with me. He will help me break up the cause of the slow flowing water. He is used to using hammers and other things to do so." The treant's roots and branches shivered before Ralph had a path. Clark just had to point to him and the treant trusted to let him pass by for the moment.
"You guys can wait here. I bet that it will only be an hour or two. Just make friends with the treants and the wood fairies. They are a little more shy but they want to meet you." Clark pointed towards the swaying trees.
'Wood fairy- uncommon
The wood fairy is a dual affinity water and earth beast. This has led them to become a unique plant type beast that is able to fuse with trees, bushes, and other larger plants. They will bond themselves to one to continue their growth in certain ways.
They are able to manipulate plants to attack along with helping certain plants to produce flowers, seeds, and fruits. Some farmers will give high respect and a lot of materials to them so that they can assist within orchards or basic crops.
The wood fairy is often shy of humans or other beasts at first. However, once they learn to trust them, the wood fairy is extremely social and will even share gifts with others when they find a true friend. They are very peaceful unless someone harms their plants. That is the best way to anger them…'
The wood fairies were surprised that they had been seen through, but when they were, the treant made a slight rumpling which caused its leaves to shiver more. It was laughing a little that the wood fairies had easily been found by a human tamer that had come to wake it up.
However, Clark could still see that the treant had some wilting leaves on its body. It was suffering due to the fact that it did not have what it needed to grow. That was why it was slumbering in the first place. Even worse, it was giving up its own nutrients to the rest of the forest. This perfectly proved that treants were incredibly rare in this aspect.
"Come on, we have a problem to fix." Clark left the group behind. They were all a little stunned since they had not expected that they would have to deal with little beasts and a massive treant. All who were seemingly peaceful but wary of them.
"So you just picked me to do the hard work?" Ralph saw this as a little bit of a different reason. He knew that Clark should be able to handle something easily by himself. He was stronger than him even though he did not want to say it.
"There might be some issues down there. Odds are there will be a beast or something taking advantage of the low water flow. There are plenty of beasts that would see this as a perfect chance to move in to a forest that they could eat from underneath. Plenty insect type beasts to eat roots. Other beasts might try and feed off their spiritual energy or even come to feed on the insect type beasts.
We have to prevent that from being an ongoing plague while nature balances itself."
Ralph raised his eyebrow at this. He hadn't expected that Clark wanted him here for a second level of protection while they worked to fix something. The idea that other beasts might have already run in to this area was surprising. But it wasn't a new problem. It had started weeks ago with the large rain storm causing a lot of trouble.
The cave was definitely ominous. They could see that the roots held together stones to make it a solid cave until they found a slight drop. Upon dropping down, both Ralph and Clark found something they did not expect whatsoever.
"It's a dungeon down here?!" Ralph looked ahead and found there was a dried up cave with a large door at the end. Roots held together the door so that the water would flow out smoothly. However, it was clear that there was also a way for water to flow around the dungeon door too.
'Underground river bed- common
The underground riverbed is a place where water flows underground. It is normally filled with rain water and other things that can not flow deeper in to the earth until it meets natural caves. However, this underground riverbed is unique since it is also fed by a dungeon.
The waters that flow from both sources allow to the forest above to grow much better than any other forest fed by just an underground river.'
"So both the water from nature and the dungeon flow through this. But right now, it is just the trickle of dungeon water. That means it is not enough to balance out the loss of the natural flowing water." Clark was amazed. The treant above had grown and used roots to force this dungeon to slowly let water out without single beast appearing down here.
Clark had expected that beasts would be helping to cause issues.
"We just have to open it more and deal with beasts then? Or what?" Ralph knew that if they opened the dungeon more that they would be faced with whatever beasts had been held back. If they were there.
"I will take a closer look and see what kind of dungeon this is. If we can check it out, then we can see what we can do. We lack the information right now." Clark's eyes focused on the dungeon entrance. The roots holding the door partially open was just enough to make this riverbed a small stream. But that needed to change. They needed at least double the water flow.
'Shining lakes dungeon- ultra rare
The shining lakes are a set of lakes that all connect within this large open dungeon. The flat land is not completely flat. The underwater sections are all connected by varying depths. The sun always shines through the water making it somewhat warmer than normal. It is an ideal home for light and water beasts.
The largest beasts will live at the lowest depths where the water is colder. They have no reason for leaving this area because the warmer waters and smaller spaces outside the dungeon are not enough for them to survive.
This dungeon also receives a constant flow of small fish and other underground beasts from its connection to the underground river. It is a very unique dungeon that had developed a symbiotic relationship with nature. This is a permanent dungeon that will never be removed due to these things.'
"Huh, a permanent dungeon. Ralph, this dungeon has been here for years and will be here for years. That's how this entire forest came to exist. And without the flow of water down here, the dungeon will also suffer. When we are able to get more water to flow out, then there will be a better flow overall."
"What about the forest. The beasts?" Ralph wasn't a fool, he worried about the downsides of doing this.
"They want to be in the lakes. The river and underground is too small for them. Let's go see. I will show you." Clark moved through the narrow gap in to the dungeon. Ralph was right behind him.
What greeted the two was a shimmering expanse of small land bridges and massive lakes. The sun beamed down and caused the rippling waters to sparkle. However, there was also a delightful breeze that proved the entire dungeon was one massive floor full of lakes and land bridges to other lakes. "This is the home they would have to leave just to come to some dark and dirty cave beneath a forest.
They like it here way more."
