Chapter 51: Goblin Den
Chapter 51: Goblin Den
Part of Clark wanted to turn around and rest right there. He felt that a lot had happened and the adrenalin was fading away leaving him weak. However, if he didn't push himself beyond his limits then he would end up stuck as a weakling forever. He could stand up to those slightly stronger than him right now, but he was all too far from one of the Mourne family members.
"Crim, I am going to be fighting alongside you and Devi. we need to make sure that we deal with everything as quickly as possible." Luckily, Clark still had the map and found it much easier to make things out in the dying light of the day.
As much as he wondered why he was able to have a better sense of sight in the dark, Clark chalked it up to his bond with Devi. Since he had trained his body before Devi had hatched and sent energy to him, it made sense that Clark would develop beyond the average for a tamer of his age.
"We are heading this way to the open area. There are marks that goblins frequent the area, but also shows a lot of stone." Clark had chosen the area because he should be able to find a decent number of goblins. That meant that they would have a leader such as a shaman.
There was also the fact that it meant more dead goblins. Clark wanted more bone grass, cemetery stone, and if possible death crystals. They were going to be the core items so far for his taming space. The real question was, what else could he find in such a blood soaked battle region for the goblins?
As they approached the nearby area, Clark sensed that there was a lot of energy. Devi was also holding back small bursts of laughter. He had been absorbing the energy and storing it away for the next time that Clark meditated with him. That way the two would become stronger at the same time while becoming more familiar with the unique energy in this place.
Part of Devi's growth had been stuck in Clark's mind. He knew that some skeletons or undead type beasts in general would need certain materials and energy to follow a proper growth path. If they focused on dark type energy then they would have different skills and strengths than one that focused on spiritual energy. Spiritual energies were often used for healing or illusionary attacks.
If Devi went this way he would either worry about developing his invisibility and illusionary skills that would develop from absorbing such energy. That would make Devi a designated supporter. Which was not a bad idea since Crim was the main attacker. If Devi chose darkness there was a strange hybrid of assassin that could sneak up and attack enemies.
However, walking that path would leave Devi in a weaker state completely leaning on invisibility and swift attacks. It wasn't ensured that Devi would remain undetected as Clark came up against more powerful opponents. That left Clark to help Devi focus on a mysterious energy; death.
Death was a widely unknown thing. Yes, there were beasts that would come out of areas with many undead type beasts. That was often battlefields or best dens such as the goblin cemetery they were in now. But there was the knowledge that those who battled against these unique beasts that gained some control over death energy would struggle.
There were mostly stories told with some uncertainty on whether it was fact or not. From what Clark had read and understood from the system, death energy was a hard to pursue energy path. Yet, Devi had an advantage. As a ghost type beast with mythical ranking, that gave Devi the edge to learning more efficiently.
"Devi, we are getting close to a place where a lot of goblins have fought each other. I want you to focus on the death energy that is around there. When you beat one of the goblins, focus on the energy leaving its body and take it away for yourself.
I will save the bodies so I can have the academy break them down and give me any beast cores or soul stones they have." Clark wasn't sure if he would be lucky enough to get any of either item but that would be up to fate.
"I can hear them from here." Clark crouched down and left the side trail he was on. Crim had crouched as well hearing the hissing and scratching of the goblins nearby.
The open area just beyond the few trees that they hid behind was larger than expected. The stones that jutted out of the ground were covered in bones of defeated goblins, goblin blood, and even some hunted animals. This was more than just an open space on the map. It was a goblin tribe. A den full of bloodthirsty beasts that would tear anything alive to pieces.
"Devi, sneak in and create a distraction on the opposite side. Something big. Crim and I will rush in toward that word set of branches and rock." Clark had narrowed down a main portion of the goblin den. There was a single area with multiple broken branches stabbed in to the ground in some form of makeshift hut.
It was only a few moments before Clark heard the distant echoing laughter that Devi was capable of. What followed was a chorus of sharp screeching and then heavy slams. Devi had targeted a hobgoblin that was with a group of normal goblins. The normal hobgoblin had thought one of the weaker goblins bit it causing a tantrum.
The result was loud and annoying for every single goblin waking up in their den.
"Perfect, follow me Crim. We have a target in that hut. Whatever is in charge has to be there." Clark remembered that a goblin shaman would normally be in charge of other goblins. The chances that one was within the hut were very high.
"Stop." Clark made Crim stop and another goblin ran past them. A few were crawling out from groups of stones that they had dug sleeping areas around. It wasn't pretty but it was how the goblins lived.
As Clark moved he silently stored the goblin and animal bones within his spatial ring. He was not going to miss the chance to gather things that might be useful for this taming space. What was even better was the fact that the goblins were clearly violent. They had broken off large chunks of the cemetery stone that had become their homes due to everything they killed around it.
'Blood stone- rare
The blood stone is very similar to a cemetery stone. hThe difference resides within the fact that it has specifically adsorbed blood changing the color to blood. Due to the high amount of unique iron absorbed, it is ideal for unique weapon materials. It is highly recommended that this item is gathered when found so that the user can create a unique spear for their current techniques.'
Clark snuck out in the open to grab the stone. He had no idea that a goblin had just come out from behind a stone and was looking at him as if it had just found the strangest looking goblin in its life.
