Chapter 493: Flooding Collapse
Chapter 493: Flooding Collapse
All three of them felt the pressure of the water increasing. The steepness of the cave they had come from seemed to be much worse now. It wasn't just the fact that the cavern floor was slightly slipper, it was the water growing worse as well.
Each step that Clark pushed forward was braced by the stab of his spear in to the ground. If he didn't then they would start to slip backwards. The combined weight of Maria and Purple with him was all that kept Clark from sliding as well.
"We need to make a bog push and get to the next level. Then we can focus on the ropes and climb up." Clark calmly spoke through his gritted teeth. He wished that they weren't facing a trial of nature like this. If he had been fighting a beast or something he would have the upper hand. But against water flowing through an underground cave? He had to face it and hope that he was enough.
"Push!" Purple roared out as he stomped his foot down and pushed. Maria did the same as Clarke dug in as well. The three let out harsh breaths as they pushed every step against the water.
The two inches of flowing water had already doubled. They were against a torrent of water now. This meant that it was more than just raining above. It would be considered a large storm if not a brutal one at that. Only storms like this happened once or twice a great during the rainy season.
These storms were the signs of seasons changing. They were also the start of beasts migrating because of them. The storms would change the temperatures and destroy certain aspects of the natural environment. Many cities would change rules and become more strict once this event happened.
Dangers would be evident as the three of them reached the surface, but that was if they reached the surface. "There are the ropes, get moving!" Clark took the lead, the water pouring down from the cave they had propelled down rained on them like a small waterfall. It was already harder to go up than it was to go down. Yet now, they faced the added force of water making it ten times harder.
The rope had also become harder to grasp on to. Whether or not they had gloves didn't seem to matter, the rope was harder to hold by the moment. Not to mention that they were having trouble keeping their eyes open due to the water falling on them. Therefore, as far as all three of them were concerned, they were climbing endlessly in darkness.
'Flash quest- flooding tunnels
Requirement: escape the flooding tunnels before the water surge appears.
Reward: ten gotcha tickets.'
The sudden quest rang out in Clark's mind making him begin to push forward. It wasn't the reward that attracted him, the system notifying him had done more than that. It had broken the negative thoughts that they would not be able to push through the water. It also made him revitalize his efforts in climbing.
Channeling the dragon type energies within him while Devi did his best to help push Clark up the rope was only part of the efforts from his beasts. Shy had attached multiple shadow threads along the rope to help bring Clark higher as he blocked the water from Maria and Purple. It brought more weight off of Clark and allowed him to move with more fluidity.
These combined efforts were the key to bringing them up faster. The feeling behind it all as the energies flowed better were all instinctual. It didn't warrant thinking. Just doing. Just surviving. A threat like this was known to many as an event that would forge someone in to a better version of themselves.
With this feeling growing, Clark's speed moving up the rope increased. Maria and Purple also felt as if they could move more freely too since Clark had reached higher up and blocked more water from falling on them.
By the time Clark reached the top, torrents of water were flowing in to the passageway from the cave passageways above. The signs of red fruit bats were long gone. They had evacuated the moment they had sensed the water beginning to fall from the sky well above them.
This water flowed and flowed but Clark could care less. As the water wasn't falling on his head, he was able to use the black lightning spear to anchor himself on top of the downward cave and help maria then Purple up. The three could only look around and push toward the passageways they had come.
The cavern paths were also beginning to show signs of water where it had not been before. Normally, the caves they came from would not have water. Purple had somewhat said this but they had also seen the evidence of this. However, the brutality of the storm above had caused water to come here for the first time in years. Something that every cave would experience at some point. This was nature.
"The paths up ahead are dangerous. The cave in clean up will be abandoned with this danger." Purple made Clark hesitate. The water in this cave was not normally there. It meant that there was a very high chance that the cave in would grow instead of be cleaned up as it normally would be.
"Then we need to move faster!" Maria pushed the two ahead. She was taking care of the cracked jade worm egg while moving but she could sense that things were just getting worse without their movement to escape. If they hesitated again, she had the feeling that they would not survive at all.
The sounds of the three rushing forward was barely heard as they managed to sprint past where they remembered the cavern to the dungeon used to be. Bodies of rocky mites were here and there since their cracks and crevices had been flooded by water. The few living ones that the group saw did not attack them. All of them were trying to survive as well.
The cracking of stones made all three slam their feet down to push forward faster. They could tell that more of the passageway had just fallen. The cave was too weak and the water did not help. Just the sounds of stones cracking over the water was enough.
"Three more coming this way!" an unknown voice shouted out. Clark nearly thought it was a hallucination due to the sounds of water all around them. But when a larger man appeared ahead of them, Clark, Maria, and Purple were swept away in a flash.
'Silverfish giant- ultra rare
This beast is a mutated variant of the silverfish beast. Known for living in the humid caves deeper underground or near volcanic areas. They will rarely grow to be large enough for a human to ride on, but when they are grown in certain ways, they can mutate and grow to be giants.
They have exceptional speed in watery and rocky terrain while also being very tough. They lack attacking strength but make up for it in defense. Often used to clear ruins or collapsed caves, these beasts are considered saviors in such situations.
The weaknesses they possess is in their cold tolerance. They will rarely…'
Clark wanted to read more about the silvery beast that had just swept them up on to its back and was rushing towards a dryer cave with a large man running ahead. But when they stopped, all three could only feel slightly dizzy.
"Three kids safe. Hey kid! Anyone else with you down there?" the man yelled but all three shook their heads no. "Good, full evacuation of known travers and three additional." The man reported to someone but Clark felt a little too off to say anything.
"The storm really took everyone by surprise. Apparently, a typhoon eagle caused the storm to come our way and rain on the mountains. It's just a coincidence but we had to evacuate everything. I went back for the last check. Good thing too, look at that cave." The man lost his professional demeanor after he and the silverfish giant had reported what happened.
Now he was clearly relaxing in the safety of a dry and solid open space.
"That was not what we planned." Purple was calm looking as he said it, but from the rise and fall of his chest, Clark could tell that he was just putting on a face.
"It was only half of what we planned." Maria held the egg and was glad to see it safe and sound. But she did not feel that everything had been well at all.
"Plans are never kept. Just stick with where you are in life. Now, let's get you three back to the city. We are putting it on lockdown until a search team can go through the high traveled areas." The man seemed to be calm enough but Clark was wondering just who the rescue team was. They were clearly powerful and efficient beyond belief.
They had easily pushed through the dangers to check a collapsing area. Something not many could manage.
