Spirit Taming

Chapter 48: Rotten Materials

Chapter 48: Rotten Materials

'Worm eaten goblin bones- common

These bones have been eaten heavily by worms. This has caused the soil around them to be highly concentrated with calcium. These bones can also be used for making certain poisons against light and holy type beasts.'

The unique part of this common material was that it could be used for a poison. That poison was useful against light and holy type beasts which made it very useful. Many people had trouble against such beasts when a rare battle type was found with that specific affinity.

"Maybe I will try and save more bones if I can find them. I should learn a little about poison making. I don't know if I can make poisons since I don't have a beast that supports potion making." Clark mumbled to himself while removing the rest of the bone pieces from the soil. He eventually found that he couldn't get any more. That left him to cover the hole and feel out the energy for something else.

When Clark focused more intensely on the higher purity spiritual and death energy in the air, he found something interesting. The trees that had fallen were not surrounded by spiritual energy. Just by a looming feeling of death. That alone was strange, but the fact that they were only slightly rotten threw Clark off.

If the trees had rotted and fallen, then they would have more rot on them than they would have as they were now. There was also the fact that there were no signs of mold or moss growth on them. Something was causing any of that which grew on them to die. This made Clark carefully follow the fallen trees to their stumps.

The stumps appeared to be fine but for the fact that they were completely rotten. Even the roots on top of the soul had somehow rotted away where the fallen portion of the tree had not. This led to the understandable thinking that the base of the tree had somehow been rotted out at an alarming rate.

It also meant that something had been introduced to the roots of the trees that had fallen where they were resting.

"If I move here then I am in the middle of all of them," Clark mumbled out so that Devi could understand what he was doing. "Then all the roots would touch this spot here." Clark used his foot to draw a circle in the dirt. He stood in the middle of where the trees had fallen from. This was the spot with the highest odds to hold the cause of these fallen trees.

Without wasting any time, Clark and Devi partnered up digging. Ralph was asleep and it appeared that Maria had followed his lead. The two were resting just as Clark wanted so that they could pursue their goal soon. That gave him the perfect cover to keep digging and gathering the materials he wanted around them under the guise of patrolling for safety.

The soft chatter of Devi's laughter alerted Clark to what he found.

'Death gem- rare

Death gems are a rare gem that used to have an earth type energy within. Over many years of being exposed to dead bodies, it has lost the earth energy within it and become death energy. This is further exemplified through the continued death of living beings around the gem. Anything that contacts and absorbs the energy can have adverse reactions varying from rotting to illness.

These gems are ideal for feeding undead type pets or being used to open a unique taming space. The user has the chance to harvest multiple of these gems while in this specific area."

Clark saw the input from the system and greatly appreciated it. The analysis already made the gems seem to be the best possible food for Devi. Now, there seemed that there should be more of them. The system had added its input just to encourage Clark to get more. It was a massive hint toward the opening of his own taming space.

With very little looking, Clark found a few more spots around them with dead plants, bone fragments, and even a half rotted goblin. This had been a popular place for battling at some point leading the area to be bathed in this spiritual and death aura. Perfect for the materials Clark gathered in to his spatial ring to grow.

The time passed them by and before Clark knew it, he had seen the sun fall even lower in the sky. It had been more than an hour but neither Ralph nor Maria complained. They had needed the rest more than they knew so that they would be able to better make it through the rest of their trip.

There was always the option of remaining there and waiting for the professors to find them. Yet, this was not as wise as a choice as it seemed. The goblins constantly patrolled this area between their tribes. That was why there were so many battles and dead goblins creating the name; goblin cemetery. They could easily be found by a patrol of goblins larger than their group of three.

That would be their end.

"Come on, wake up." Clark would have just given them a shout to wake up but knew that was not wise. He went over to Maria and softly bumped her shoulder with his hand. The result was an immediate flinch and jump backwards while looking around panicked.

"Please don't hit-" Maria narrowly caught herself after looking at who had just touched her. This reaction was not normal and she knew it. Clark knew it too. He had many more questions now than ever. Questions that made him angry and want to fight whoever had made her feel that she would need to defend herself as soon as someone came to wake her up.

"I will remember for next time. There's more to you than I know…" Clark said this calmly while he watched Maria return to a proper standing position and straighten her clothing. She was definitely embarrassed but shocked.

"Thank you for waking me up." Maria thanked him while watching Clark move toward Ralph and deliver a swift kick to the side. Not hard enough to hurt him but just enough to deliver a solid shock.

The response was Ralph leaping in to the air ready to punch Clark. However, the words that escaped were not of fear, "Next time you try that I will beat you to a pulp slime boy!" watching Clark just turn to ignore him made it even worse. "And what's with these holes in the ground? What did you do while I napped? Hhm?"

"I was harvesting materials. Some good ones are under the soil. They are going to be sold or used for my beast." Clark didn't hide his intentions. The other two could gather materials as they went as well.

"Now, we are going to cross this little stream then head right to the camp set up for us there. We tell them about the third years purposely letting a goblin toward us. Splitting up, then finding the demented hobgoblin that we fought." Clark's plan was ironed out well and ready for them to begin. Ralph didn't argue it at all and neither did Maria.
