Chapter 447: Medical And Healing
Chapter 447: Medical And Healing
"Are you certain that you will need to cut someone open for certain injuries? That sounds like you might be trying to harm them more!" Maria had heard that some healing had to be done on deeper levels than when someone healed using pure skills. Yet, when she found out that some of the healers here would go so far as to find the afflicted organ overall…well, it stunned her.
This had been basic knowledge. Some wounds had to be healed in steps. But hearing that the healers at another level were completely fine with cutting in to people made it very unnerving. Especially since the healers in front of her were explaining the drastic differences between levels of healing.
"You must try and understand. When you have limited skills to heal with, we have to resort to medical techniques. You already know them and have read some of the books we gave you. That means that your academy taught you this." One of the healers was acting like a lecturer. It was clear that they were very dedicated to their studies.
"Since you already know that some diseases and injuries require different levels of healing if there isn't a powerful healer that matches those levels, then the weaker healer needs to adapt. You might not have experienced that since you have a powerful parter that can heal deeper wounds more easily. We are not the same. We have to access internal injuries.
Therefore, we need to cause some pain to treat the long term injury or the life threatening injury."
The explanation made a lot more sense since the healer was going out of the way to ensure that it was clear. A cut and dry explanation would give any younger healer what they needed to begin their journey in to these medical techniques. "We even have healers that can't really heal much but a few scrapes. But if they find someone with a stomach ulcer, they can help them heal with potions.
What if they can't use a potion though? A small incision can give them the closeness they need to help that person. Then they heal the other wounds over a time plan."
Another healer gave an example and watched as Maria wrote down some notes. This study was proving to be the best she had gotten in some time. Nova Academy had healers, but they were often very busy with the academy's affairs. The professors that taught healing couldn't take the time to split up and teach every single student to the same level.
It was a very generalized class compared to what Maria was learning right now from others. She was able to see so many things that it made a lot more improvements to her existing skills.
"This diagram of the muscles took over seventy years just to map out to this detail. So many people worked on it for generations. Can you imagine what the other diagrams took of bones, organs, and even the skin? That's what we have to show off." One of the healers was the youngest of the group. But from what Maria saw, he was the most energetic when it came to using the resources they had.
"So, any more questions?" The first healer that had spoken had asked Maria this a few times and Maria always felt that there were a million more things to ask.
"I want to see what else I can read first. I think that looking at your beasts and these diagrams, I am very behind. Nova didn't have this much to let me learn right away." Maria had become somewhat shy as she was weighted down with the realization that she was behind. So far behind in healing.
She was very glad the rest of the group had done their own things while she had managed to slip away to this teaching building in the camp.
"Hmm, maybe we should ask the head healers to send some of us there. We can work with academies. We do it sometimes, right?" the other healers looked at their elder student and nodded. They had all been to one academy or another to help here and there. Two had even been in Nebula to help with the tournament.
"I will tell Professor Wright that. She should be able to help!" Maria found some energy and knew that she had another small goal to pursue. She could easily be able to help in this way. Better healing knowledge meant better healers. Better healers meant a better quality of life for every citizen of Nova City.
"Alright, then we will show off everything. You already showed us some amazing beast plans and now you want to help our group get a field trip out of the constant lecturing and skill training. We can even learn to fight now." The energy that the healers around Maria gave off was like those of any group of kids that just found candy. They were way too excited.
But this was a good atmosphere. Maria knew she had focused on battle a lot. She had been letting Lit use her poison on daggers and even the other members of the group's weapons. The pair had not been focused on healing too much. Even the healing of Maria's own body had been a small focus since she had been fighting or traveling.
"First, let me introduce you to my partner. If you are like me and focus on the surgical side of medical techniques, having a partner like mine would be perfect for you." The healer that had been lecturing Maria earlier showed off a small beast that had been hiding in her hair.
"This is a razor blade mantis. One of the smallest mantis insect type beasts. They are often known for hunting smaller bugs in the wilderness. But since they have such high accuracy, are exceptionally clean at all times, and their metal and insect types make them able to strengthen the blades on their arms, they are great for surgery.
I have recently learned how to properly fix and set bones if they shutter. My partner just gets me the access I need. The wounds heal amazingly and leave nearly no scars."
"If I were to fight someone, it would go poorly because of my partner's size. I also don't get much strength from him. That's fine though. I can contact a glow sting jellyfish and have surgical and healing covered." Maria had not expected such a tiny beast to have such exceptional skill when it came to healing.
Hearing that there was such a large side of healing that even tiny beasts could do was very uplifting.
"So, you're saying that if I manage to work on my strength when it comes to blades, body knowledge, and the steps needed to heal from the deepest levels of the body that I can get even better? Let's do it." Maria's sudden energy made all of the healers push themselves in to a flurry.
They had been very interested in the beast growth of glow sting jellyfish. It was why they had wanted to ask Maria about Lit in the first palace. But as they had spoken, they realized that they could trade information and that Maria was very much like them.
While this flurry of conversation and knowledge trading between healers, medical students, and the odd mix of the two were happening, Jerold had found himself in a unique predicament. Not so much unexpected, but enough to make a few heads turn.
"Just try and stab us! We can learn the hard way!"
"It's a healer camp, do you really think we would die?"
"They are right! Just go all out and forget about beating us up!"
"You should know we will only get stronger through harsh training, that's how it's done!"
The cries from multiple healers had been directed right at Jerold since he had openly accepted that he would help train with the whalers who were enamored with Maria's unique fighting style. He also used a dagger but in comparison, he was more of a true assassin than Maria who was a split between assassin dagger styles, archery, and healing.
"Listen to me! You are all like two years older than me but you are all ready to get killed? I could actually kill you, you know that, right? I have poison and can literally hide myself to attack you. There won't be time to just hit you and let you heal. You will be dead with a dagger in your neck or head or heart!" The flustered appearance of Jerold was new to the group.
Luckily, none of them had seen it yet since he had been isolated by his new trainees.
"You can't be so arrogant…" It struck Jerold that he had been a lot like these healers. Someone that was stuck in their own thoughts that they would easily be stronger. That they could just go around doing whatever with a group. That they would have the chance to show off easily without worrying about any consequence. Now it was his turn to teach the lesson he learned the hard way.
