Chapter 382: Unique By Comparison
Chapter 382: Unique By Comparison
"What do you think? Will it hatch?" Isa was looking at the little egg with careful attention. She was waiting to hear what Ella and Clark had to say.
The energy in the room was becoming denser. I would theorize that due to my living mist's assistance and the frost finch's assistance that it will hatch very soon." Ella was spot on and had earned a nod in approval from Clark . He didn't even have to say it. But what he was curious about was that when he looked at the egg using the analysis of the system there was something new.
In the description was a new section that Clark had not seen when he had first analyzed it.
'When hatching a wind caterpillar or similar caterpillar or inchworm species, there is a chance to alter them fundamentally. The result could be due to hatching speed or density of applicable elemental energy. Due to this, the caterpillar may mutate while within the egg and while hatching.'
These simple additional few lines made Clark hesitate to say another word. He felt that this was the system hiding a few small things. Almost as if it was a mischievous kid with a surprise waiting for it to be found. "Everything is already set with taming. I used my family technique to link myself and the little one in the egg already.
But I feel like it's kind of different from before." Isa was picking up on this too.
"It's hatching faster than it would normally. There's a chance that it might mutate." Clark finally said it. He didn't want to make any drama for get isa's hope up. There were always some of the mutations that ended poorly for a beast. This had been seen before.
If a beast that was susceptible to fire gained a fire typing but was still weak to flames it was more of a curse. Things such as this had happened to plant type beasts before. It had been passed around as a rumor but more and more of these rumors spread every year. There was always a chance for a great mutation and an equal chance at a poor mutation.
"No matter what it is it will be my new partner!" Isa's exclamation was met with the sound of a crack from beside her. Everyone stopped as the wind energy converged slightly on the egg.
The cracking intensified as the shell fell away revealing a small green and white striped caterpillar. It was smooth and lacked any fuzz like some often had. Instead, it was sporting three shapes near its head made of the green and white pigment of its skin. Almost as if they were larger eyes. On its tail end, it had a small tuff of longer hairs that appeared to be able to sense the wind.
They too were a mix of white and green.
Mutated wind caterpillar- ultra rare
Due to a mutation that occurred while hatching, the wind caterpillar has gained a higher affinity with wind compared to the average wind caterpillar. It did suffer some weaker skin and lacked pigmentation to protect it from sunlight. This is not a major downside for such a beast since they will often avoid direct sunlight in their younger ages by wrapping themselves in leaves.
There is a small chance that the growth of this wind caterpillar will be faster due to the higher amount of wind at its hatching. It can also grow faster in the earlier stages by consuming all of its eggshell which will have a dense wind energy within it.
By feeding it with herbs that contain a high wind energy, it can be better fed over time. The higher the quality of the herbs the better. It is recommended that silver grass be fed to it to assist in the awakening of its skills since the unique wind energy within silver grass is known to facilitate defensive and offensive wind technique learning.'
Clark was impressed with the wind caterpillar. It was smaller than he had imagined it but without even saying a word it had begun to eat the eggshell from hatching. Isa was just watching it carefully while marveling at the patterns on its body. This wasn't that off for a wind caterpillar, especially if someone had seen or heard of one before.
But it was still amazing to see the difference in every beast even among their own species.
"The different color is due to a mutation. It happens in many beasts. It is because it hatched faster than it should have. But it seems to be very strong. I would recommend that you avoid harsh environments such as extreme cold, sunlight, and heat." Ella had her own evaluation which Clark agreed with immediately.
"Once it eats its shell I would let it sleep for a while. It will need to digest that wind energy to help it start growing. You should also find some silver grass. That will help it awaken skills faster. But other than that we might want to loom for some other wind affinity herbs.
I am sure that it will want to eat a variety." Clark saw that Isa was carefully listening to every word while she watched the little wind caterpillar eat.
"What should I think about it when it comes to growing and becoming a cocoon? Should I try and get it to grow in to a certain direction yet? Or should I not think about it at all since it might take years?" Isa was right to ask this. Clark had already explained that the normal growth of a wind caterpillar could take a very long time.
However, this wind caterpillar already had a higher affinity for the wind elemental energy within it. Along with that it was already able to grow faster than a normal wind caterpillar. It was actually an ideal situation. "Let me think about it for a while. I know that Ella already has the known growth plans for a basic wind caterpillar. But yours isn't normal."
"You know it. It's adorable and way better than the usual ones you guys told me about." Isa was already taking pride in the different skin pigments and general patterns of white and green on the wind caterpillar's body.
From the corner of his eye, the living mist, ice maiden, and frost finch were all watching too. They had stopped their focus on absorbing the wind or ice energies around them. They wanted to see the new addition to their group. Especially the ice maiden since it would be working right next to the little wind caterpillar.
"I would say that you have a while to figure out growth and what will happen when it becomes a cocoon. I would say that you should focus on silver grass and a few other things. I already gave you some herbs for your taming space but I am sure that you can find more or better ones." Clark saw that Isa had already been thinking this.
"I will record the process you use. The amounts fed and what the wind caterpillar does with it. For now we should be waiting to see how long it sleeps after it has finished eating. It may alter how it grows within the first week." Ella was sure that the better information she gathered for the growth plan journal that the better things would turn out.
Having a very carefully documented plan from an amazing beast could sell for a lot. Even though most growth plans were general, some were very specific. It was clear in some beasts like the gray stone crab which could grow in to a gray spiked crab or a crag crap. The difference was introducing more earth energy or adding fire energy.
The slightest variance could change how it grew for the remainder of its life.
"Now for other important questions, what do we do about that feather you have?" Isa was waiting for Clark to bring it up. She knew that it would help the ice maiden and Grace's frost finch.
"We can leave it on the ice side of the room for now while you meditate. Grace is training outside so she won't mind that it is helping her beast. But your ice maiden has a lot of stored energy. Isn't it ready to change its body a little and go through a growth spurt?" This was something that Clark had seen in the system analysis.
Mostly he would see small changes like mood but lately he had seen that the ice maiden was radically preparing to grow in one burst which was normal for beasts to do.
"I felt that too. But I want to find a special material to let it have as a center for it to grow. If we can find something unique in the dungeon then we will be perfectly ready. It also could use the colder environments there." Hearing that Isa had already planned this out, Ella and Clark had no qualms. They were more excited knowing that she had thought it out well.
Especially Ella who wanted to see the results of such hard work.
