Spirit Taming

Chapter 322: Grace Takes The Stage

Chapter 322: Grace Takes The Stage

The entire audience had caught on to the actions and strategy of the celestial sea academy. They had perfectly figured out that they had made their entire team around a few strong members.

For some people, this seemed like a great idea. They were supporting their strongest members so that they could easily win the rest of the tournament. It was the same as playing a long term game of chess. Lose a little now so you can win all the time later. Unfortunately, not everyone liked this.

It made celestial sea academy appear to not care about fellow students. It was not a good look in front of the other academies. But there was no shame. The last five students were looking at their opponents as if nothing was going on. Instead of being angry that they had losses, they all wore smiles. It was a sign that they were nearly ready to crush the rest of the academy they were facing.

"Here comes the next one, who is going up?" Reese stood up ready to go if no one else was. He watched as a heavier set boy took the stay and waved an arm. What he didn't expect to see was a large turtle leaving the taming space.

That wasn't it though, the turtle had a bright red sea anemone on it. The sea anemone on its shell seemed to be moving without any worry that it was not in the water. Sure, it was stationary, however, the turtle was not. Both seemed to be working together.

'Soul capturing anemones- uncommon

This weak beast is able to latch on to other beasts. If it is not removed before it sets down root, then it is able to completely take over the insides of another beast. This makes that beast lose its mind and effectively captures it. The rumor goes that the beast captured has no soul left to be able to escape the situation.

It is able to use its tentacles to attack like a whip while delivering a paralyzing toxin. The beast it controls can be attacked and even killed, unfortunately, it will only cause the main anemone body to lose its ride. It can still use some of the skills its possessed ride could use.

This soul capturing anemone has managed to capture a tidal turtle. It likes to latch on to the rocks during high tides and wait for beasts to eat that are being dragged in and out of the tide. It is able to use its earth and water dual affinity to make rocks grow and also to cause small waves. It is best known for accidentally catching swimmers in higher tides due to storms.'

"It is one beast that completely controls the other. That is a parasite if I ever saw one." Ralph finally spoke up. He had heard of beasts that were stuck in one place because of their plant like physiology. They were often thought of as very weak beats that could be useless in battle. Yet here was one that could remove that effect.

"It's not just that, they should be able to make rocks and waves. That means they are still altering the field while also being able to fight too. They are another set up beast and a battle beast to take us down. It's still part of their strategy." Isa wondered if she should just return to the stage for this battle no matter what.

Her crystal golem could resist some of the rocks made while her ice maiden froze any waves.

"Just because you listened to Clark doesn't mean you should be the one to handle this. It's best that I do it. I can dodge its attacks because I learned from you and have my frost finch freeze away that plant beast." Grace spoke up. There wasn't a single shake in her voice even though this would be her first battle. Everyone would be focused on her.

"And that sounds like a good plan. Clark doesn't make all the choices. Grace, since Isa is tired, you have the best advantage. I and Jerold would be seen even with stealth or in visibility. My poison also will be less effective against a plant beast. Reese would have to perfectly block all attacks and so would Brad.

Clark is our ace in the hole, I am not playing that card. So go show us what you're made of."

"So Maria, you're the team leader now?" Clark teased Maria a little, making her face turn red. However, Grace was already following the decision and had taken to the stage.

The other opponents saw that Grace was not as tough looking and thought that Niva academy was finally using their weaker members to see what they could do about stopping such a tough looking opponent.

What no one knew was that Grace had been training with Maria, Ella, and Isa. Whether the boys had seen it or not, Grace had started to learn how to use a saber, a dagger, and a rapier. She had also just been bought one of each by Isa when they were working on their sales journey.

The reason that Grace had focused on these weapons was simple, they had some similar movements, while focusing on speed. This would make her ankle to speedily stab and add ice effects on to any beast. Furthermore, she had also begun to learn how to make her own body faster with her partner's help.

It had been a rough endeavor over the past few days finding it, but with the guidance she had, she was not afraid at all.

"You know that they are just sending out the smallest opponent to weaken my turtle, right?" the larger boy looked like he was prepared to sit there and easily deflect any attack that came his way. He had brought out a large shield from his spatial ring and was already letting his anemone lead the turtle forward to attack on his behalf. He perfectly followed the hide behind his beast mentality.

"You know that you are going to fail in both your jobs here. No rocks will be made and your beast will be beaten without beating me." Grace was quick to respond as she drew the rapier she had in her spatial ring. She had carefully looked at the turtle and decided she would first be eliminating the ability of the anemone to move. She also had the saber she had been given at her hip.

She was sure she could draw it in a few seconds if need be.

"I'll teach you the lesson you missed at your academy. Go and crush that little tamer and its bird." The boy hunkered down behind his shield while letting the anemone take the lead. The turtle is used as it's host started to slowly move forward. Everyone noticed the small amount of rock that built up as it started forward.

The skills that the anemone had control of when it came to the tidal turtle were weaker. That meant it needed more time to make the field altered. An even better sign for Grace. She already had her own plans about the arena they fought in. "Let's go and make things a little cold." The moment that Grace said this, a cold gust of wind wrapped around her.

The ability to channel the wind and ice energies through her body was what she had been given as the ice finch had awakened the new energy typing. Now she was able to control the wind and the ice by channeling the energy that her beast gave her. Adding in direct contact with the ice finch. She was able to make it more intense.

That was why she dashed out and used the rapier to stab at the ground. If the opponents wanted to alter their battlefield, then she was going to do it to her advantage, not theirs.

Ice was beginning to form with every step that grace took. The wind was buffering the arena now and carrying the colder air to wrap around the anemone and its tidal turtle carrier. This was making small ice crystals form on the red tentacles that were waiting to be close enough to whip out at Grace.

The speed of the already slow tidal turtle took a turn. It couldn't seem to keep up with the changes in cold. Most beasts of a water typing would be influenced by the change in form of water to it. However, the turtle was also not truly alive. It was controlled by the soul capturing anemone. That made it weaker when facing the attacks of others but also meant that it felt nothing happening to its body.

"Let's make it even colder. Grace decided that holding back was not on the list of things to do. She already knew what she should do. Therefore, she started a direct sprint at the beast she was facing with her frost finch pushing her even faster with the wind. She was going to end this with a lot of speed and keep the arena as open as possible.
