Chapter 320: Ugly Outside, Ugly Inside
Chapter 320: Ugly Outside, Ugly Inside
"What do we know about the celestial sea academy?" Maria looked at Isa for the answer. She was the one that went and gathered information constantly. Especially because she was the focus of the business side of the group, Isa had the knowledge to find the right information. Not just the basics.
While the group moved, everyone focused on what Isa started to say. "The celestial sea isn't actually at sea. They have many islands off the coast of the continent. Their academy takes up the largest while small cities take over some of the smaller islands. It is considered the most isolated academy because the things they need have to be taken by ship or beast to get there."
"That doesn't mean they are weak. They spend many days a year fighting the migrating beasts in the ocean. Some of the students even have the ability to free dive in to waters that would kill the average person. Some probably breath underwater because of their bonds with beasts."
All of this was enough to show that the celestial sea academy was a tough school to face. They had a very specific type of beast and knowledge. This made them the best in that specific elemental energy. They would surely exceed in water type beasts.
"That means we need to be ready to fight against water type beasts. Ralph, you are sitting this one out. Your molten boar is not as resistant to water yet. It needs a lot more training." Clark saw Ralph ready to resist but then Ralph bit his tongue and clenching a fist.
"I will focus on training. You can all fight. Just don't lose or I will smelt you too." This small threat made them all wonder what exactly Clark and Ralph had done when they met the blacksmith. They knew that Clark had progressed in some odd forging techniques, but after leaving, they had no idea what Ralph and Clark had done.
But whatever it was, Ralphs had a new focus that exceeded his desire to fight all the time.
"The beasts might also be large. The oceans can contain some very large beasts. That's why these arenas are so large. That's why it was extended." Isa pointed out at the space around them. They had all just walked in to the section where they would be battling. The sheer size of that was enough to let beasts a hundred times their size out of a taming space.
Not to mention beasts potentially as large in the entire arena when it wasn't split in to four.
"If they are that large, they will be easier targets and tougher. What I am more worried about are the beasts that can make water flow around them and swim. The celestial sea will be in a poor circumstance without water. Unless they can bring water around them from the air or with them." Grace seemed to be using her mind much more than Reese.
She was catching on to the thoughts of Isa, Maria, and Clark very well.
"Which makes you a good fighter against them. Your frost finch can fly. That means that they won't be able to counter you." Reese caught on to the thinking too and realized that he and Brad would be useless against such beasts. Reese was faster, but Brad was slow and heavy.
"They can also counter my abilities." Jerold also saw this issue. He could be countered because the water could take up a large space.
"Same here, but just because my Lit is a princess jellyfish doesn't mean that she can't flow through water too. She has a similar structure to a jellyfish in the ocean. She's just spiritual and poison. Let me poison their waters." Maria said this with a sweet smile. One that chilled the air a little.
"Exactly. Let's just see how it goes." Clark ended their collaboration when he finally saw the eight other students at the opposite end of the arena they were in.
"Ladies and gentlemen, today we have the first match of the tournament, here in arena one we have the first years, arena two the second years, arena three, the third years, and arena four, the fourth years. The island academy, the celestial sea academy has drawn the first lot against the land locked academy, Nova academy." an announcer had already begun to start things off.
However, Clark ignored this and was looking across.
"I can already see a few beasts. They have two that are out in the open. One is a pink razor clam. They are tough and often act as a shield with a sharp tongue that acts as a spike to attack prey. Then there is a ten tentacle hag fish. They are a mutation when a hagfish and a tentacle beast are bred together.
It has poison hooks and a violent attitude." Clark gave them the information he could but knew that it was just small. The other six were unknown.
"I will handle the first battles. I need to show off a little." Isa stepped out without a single moment of arguing. Her crystal golem walked right in front of her acting as a smaller bodyguard. However, it was already radiating a complicated earth energy around it. Anyone could tell with a glance that it was prepared to erect a crystal wall at any second.
"Good, I like that you don't sit and wait. My partner is the same!" The boy that walked up was the one with the ten tentacle hagfish. "Ten, go and destroy that piece of rock then get me that girl. She's cute." The disgusting attitude matched the look of the beast that the boy had. It made Isa wonder if his beast was the true look of how he was inside.
The hagfish used the ten tentacles to move around. It easily made up for the lack of water around it. This was how it was countering the fact that this battle was on land. Around the arena, a thin layer of magical energy grew. It was to protect the audience and those fighting within.
It also made the environment more controlled so that people couldn't say that the weather was forcing the competitors to lose.
A separate referee floated in the air. He had some sort of magical tool to hold him there watching over. With a single wave of his hand and a shout, the battle was started. Naturally, the hagfish whipped out with its tentacles at a frantic pace. It was bloodthirsty and wanted to shatter the crystal golem.
With a single stomp, the crystal golem brought up a wall of crystal. But even more surprising was that flames burst around Isa. She had known that who she was and who her family was would be easily found. That meant that she would have to face people who had heard of how she could fuse her body with her beasts. That was why she didn't hide it.
The flames from her flame sprite seemed more powerful. She had intentionally left her ice maiden held back. She had given it a substantial amount of ice crystals along with the environment here to grow. This was a chance for her so she was going to let it slowly grow before having to fight again.
The intense flames were washed over the ten tentacle hag fish instantly. The crystal wall had slowed it down and protected Isa while she sent flames about. This was her strategy. Stop the beast, burn it, win. A simple and easy method while also giving her some joy since she was sure that the person she was against was disgusting to the very core.
"Remember, just because I look cute, doesn't mean that scum like you has the right to look at me." Isa's heated words matched the flames she directed at the tamer. His beast was currently writhing on the ground in pain. There was no way he could protect himself.
"The first battle goes to Nova academy!" a wall of energy stopped the flames the instant before they hit the tamer. Celestial sea academy had lost one point already. Even worse, Isa wasn't even fazed.
"Send your next tamer please. I still have some warming up to do." Isa remained on the stage. She hadn't shown a single bit of what her opponents couldn't find without asking around about her family. However, those that did not know of her were soon caught up. They had just seen the youngest member of the Rolly family battle as if her opponent was nothing.
"Isa did well, she beat that arrogant kid in a second. And she didn't use any of her close combat attacks. We still have a full advantage." Clark understood that Isa was using her business mind right here. She was holding back information and only showing off what was already known. This way she could maximize her profits later.
And If she surrendered a match, it was sure that she would force them to show off every little secret they had. Letting Isa take the lead was the perfect way for them to gain understanding against celestial sea academy.
