Chapter 265: Battle Instinct Leaking

Chapter 265: Battle Instinct Leaking

Clark seemed overly harsh when he yelled at Jerold for shouting. It was true that he had to make an effort to tell Jerold that this was not the way to attract beasts when he was in a dungeon. It was very dangerous. There was also the clear fact that the younger and less experienced first year students had never been in a dungeon.

The elite class received many different benefits. They had a single professor that was dedicated to their growth by whatever means necessary. Along with that were the field trips to the wilderness and the dungeons. These things were because of their status as elites.

The first years that didn't have the benefit of being elites would need to find mentors or funds their own way to fight in the wilderness or the dungeons. Overall, it was something that many people could not afford nor would risk. They were not strong enough to survive the dangers of the wilderness or dungeons yet.

But what was truly on Clark's mind was not that there were dangerous beasts alerted of their presence. He was instead excited about the fact that he would be able to fight something tougher.

The hammer tailed lizards were not stronger than what he could handle. After looking within himself and sensing the energies that Devi, Shy, and Crim had been sharing with him, Clark knew that it was time to put himself against a real opponent. He had to do so to make a push to get stronger. He could come against a true genius at the tournament between the academies.

As much as Clark wanted to think that he was actually capable of being a genius, he knew that having some memories from a past life and a system was where his strengths lay. He was lucky that he had what he had and if he had none of them, he would have been just another victim of those cruel powerful families of this world.

"Crimson, come with me. We are going to take on that big guy up there." The big guy that Clark referred to was the cow sized lizard walking toward them. If it was his past life, Clark would have said that this was more like a dinosaur. It was odd that this came to mind but looking at the thick scales on it, he wondered if this was anything but a dinosaur.

The tail was gray, matching the rest of the scales, but instead of the same flat and tough looking scales, the tail changed to a rugged and tougher appearance. There was also a large rounded hammer head that explained why the lizard gained the name hammer tail. They could easily crush stone walls with a swing of their tails.

"I will handle the first one. Then Maria, then Ella. You two get to watch and learn wherever you can. But don't get in the way and attract more." Clark's change in personality made everyone freeze. He seemed deadly while focusing on his desire to beat this lizard.

"He's been like this more and more often. It's an odd change but one that clearly shows what level he is as a tamer." Ella had been secretly recording data about the changes in Clark when he focused, a killing intent or a dragon like aura seemed to wash around him.

"It's not normal though. Only the tamers that are willing to fight through armies are like this. The most powerful." Everyone had managed to catch on to this development. But Clark was naturally clueless that the dragon, death, and now shadow energies were mixing together within his body to give him this rare tamer aura.

It was easy to see that the hammer tail lizard was here to defend its territory. It had sighted the group invading its home and was ready to slam its tail at them and crush them. But Clark was drawing its attention more and more quickly. The first thing that drew attention was the black lightning spear which carried its own aura of strength.

But when Crim melded with Clark to form a chest plate and wings on his back, the hammer tail lizard felt all its nerves react. This was true danger.

In the dungeon, the only dangerous predators were themselves. The hammer tail lizards would fight over what they wanted to mine out and eat or just over territory. Nothing hunted and ate them. But in this moment, the hammer tail lizard awakened its ability to feel like prey. It awakened the fight or flight reflexes that every beast had.

That the previous two moles had felt as they fought for their lives.

Clark was an opposing force that wanted its territory. The hammer tail lizard had to force this thing away. Had to defeat this human no matter what. Therefore, it spun faster than most would believe something of its weight and size was capable of. The hammer tail swung through the air and landed on the ground.

Cracks spiderwebbed out from the tail and a loud crack caused Clark to wince. This attack was just the start. A signal of the battle to come. The hammer tail lizard did so as a challenge and charged forward directly after its attack.

The charge was easy enough for Clark to dodge. His ghostly steps and body had improved as more energies made their way through his body to reforge it. Now that he had the chance to use these skills, he had to put them to their limits. That was why everyone was in awe as they saw Clark stepping through the large cave as if he was a ghost. He was here and there one moment after the other.

His image seemed to disperse and gather in blinks of an eye.

The speed that Clark used was all because of the dragon energy coursing through his body. His muscles and tendons had reached a much higher level than most people would expect for his age. Any other dragon tamer would have a similar physique due to their relationship with a dragon. But the strange sight and feeling of spirits was from the energy that Devi provided.

That was why the hammer tail lizard reacted by jumping back with all its might when Clark's spear came forward. The death energy scared it to the point that it knew there was no living if that spear touched it. The aim that Clark had was also very precise. He saw that the scales were tough and he had to use the falling moon pierce to deal with the defenses of this beast.

The attacks began to grow as Clark used the falling moon pierce that he had engraved within his muscles. The pairing of ghostly steps and piercing attacks was making the hammer tailed lizard act in a way that it never did. It was dodging.

The larger the beast, the lower the speed tended to be except in a few special cases. The hammer tailed lizard was a breast that used strength for a short time. It lacked speed and stamina for a longer and faster battle. Therefore, it was losing its ability to dodge since it was not a normal activity for it.

This was an easy thing for anyone of any level to see. That was why Clark began to focus on his movements as if he was training. He was acting as if he was being tested. He had to exhaust and defeat his opponent with perfect movements and perfect attacks.

The spear tip began to pierce the spots between thick gray scales. Every attack caused severe damage to the lizard at a deeper level. Its blood dripped down its scales while it began to question what it had done to bring the wrath of a god down on it.

The final attack made use of Crim's ability to leave wings for Clark's use. Clark jumped in to the air and with Crim's assistance rose even higher. This added the force of gravity to the falling moon pierce which perfectly stabbed in between the scales of the back of the lizard's neck. It was a perfect attack that was perfectly strong enough to sever the spine of the beast it was used on.

"So, I think I was underestimating these lizards. Their scales are thick enough to be used for some decent armor if you are looking to have some made. We can sell them for a large profit in the north." Ella was just about to say the same thing.

"I am glad you are using your head. That is a great idea. I can see if any blacksmiths want to make a set. Then we pay them a small payment for the forging. Then we sell the armor sets we have here. All we will need is more raw materials and we can even pair them with hammers that use rare sized hammer tail lizard tails." The vicious grin made Jerold and Brad fear more than just Clark.

Maria was also a demon standing among humans. She had learned well from Isa.

"That was a very interesting battle. You have improved your body again. But I could see that you were still uncomfortable bonding with Crim. That is a problem that requires more battle experience in that form." Clark understood Ella and could only thank her harsh analysis. He needed harsh words to become stronger. Sweet words could only lull him in to a false sense of security.
