Chapter 124: Isa's Plan
Chapter 124: Isa's Plan
'Red eyed hound- rare
The red eyed hound is a night dwelling beast with a weak shadow typing. It is usually only raised so that someone can use them as guard dogs. They have an ability to hide in the tamer's shadow while also being able to better hide at night. They have strong jaws and decent agility. Some tamers use them to antagonize other beasts so that they are easier to hunt. The best way…'
"So one has a spider and another has a red eyed hound. They are attracting some beasts our way." Clark watched the carriage finally disappear in the darkness. The last thing they could see was another lantern lighting inside of it.
"Did you say red eyes hound? Why would they send…they aren't hunting are they?" Isa had heard of it and knew that this was not a good sign.
"They are going to attract a bunch of beasts this way. Ella, are your wisps up for the job?" Clark knew that in a numbers battle this would be very important.
"Not really. They need to rest. I had them called out a lot today and the other day. They need time to establish their spiritual and elemental energies. I might be able to call on a few…but nowhere near as many as before.'' This was a drawback of wisps. They didn't have much for a physical body so they had to replenish their energies often.
"We should just attract them." Isa didn't seem to be joking with them. She was completely serious.
"Isa, what's wrong? Why would we do that?" Maria was just as lost as the other two as to why Isa would want to attract the beasts even more.
"Don't you get it? We trap them. I have the best beasts in the world. My flame sprite will be like a beacon to draw them in. then my ice maiden will make ice spikes on the ground. Add in your poison from your glow sting jellyfish…" Isa looked even more energetic than when she had her business ideas.
"And Crim will play defense to any that get near. So we start a trail of flames that will burn out and not cause a forest fire. Got it." Clark didn't hesitate. He was impressed more than he would like to admit. This was his first time battling at night like this. Having to worry about other wild beasts that had home field advantage over him.
Having to face overwhelming numbers.
"Wait, use the water. I have a bunch on my spatial ring just in case we need it." Clark was a little embarrassed but he pulled out ten containers with water in them.
"That's a little much…" Isa wasn't sure if Cark had expected everyone to have forgotten or not.
"Well, it came in handy. I have it in case and this is what we are using it for, so, be happy." Clark wasn't sure why he had such a response but it was slightly embarrassing to have been so overprepared. Unfortunately, this wasn't the time to be a normal person. He had to be serious.
The mental message that he sent Devi was simple: Watch out and attack when necessary. This wasn't toward the incoming beasts at all. This was toward the carriage that Devi had rushed to catch up to in the dark.
"Those little brats will have a lot of trouble making it on time. I doubt they will even arrive." One of the Cain family was mocking the group behind them.
"Of course they are! They thought they could steal a lab right from us. We have every right to have a specialized lab and clientele. Doc will have to give us all his notes now." The other Cain family member was raving about their victory as well.
The other two were just smiling and nodding along. The pair had already become tired of this. The money they were offered had long outlived what they were doing. But crossing a prominent family was not how they wanted to survive. They couldn't afford such a thing.
When they were finally able to calm their laughter, the two heard another laugh. One they remembered from the forest before. Dev's echoing laughter had started up. This time the other two members of their group heard it and became fearful as well. But it was getting worse.
The nerves paired with the scratch marks appearing on their carriage made all four believe that a beast had somehow managed to get inside. An invisible evil beast that could influence their minds. There was no hesitation for the four to jump out of their carriage and run in to the darkness in fear.
"Good." Clark received the mental communication from Devi that he had dealt with the four ahead of them. It was a fair revenge as Clark and Crim prepared for the incoming beasts.
Large fang bat- common
The large fang bat is attracted to light and noises at night. They will use their large fangs to pierce tough enemies and poison them with an acidic poison. They will then drink the slurry that becomes their prey's organs. They are weak to most physical attacks due to their weaker bodies. They will also live short lives due to being lower on the food chain.
The only boon they possess other than their poison and fangs is the fact that they live in large colonies.'
A small line of flames bloomed along the route that the carriage followed. The bats were innately attracted to it. Isa was covered in similar first and flames as she had fused with her flame sprite and ice maiden. But what was scarier, was that the water Crim held in his mouth was perfectly freezing as he ran.
The plan had been modified to have Crim sped ahead of the carriage spilling the water and helping the poison infused waters spread. The ice maiden was using its abilities with Isa to make the water freeze in to think needle spikes behind the flames. It was the perfect balance of fire and ice.
Screeching sounds were made as soon as a bat would fly through the flames and find that there was no prey. Only pain. But the pain did not last too long. The numbing caused the bats to fail in flying or even moving. The large number of bats attracted more beasts behind the carriage. Therefore, when Isa stopped and the water ran out, not a single bat was heading toward them.
Instead, they were fleeing whatever beasts had shown up to eat them.
"I'm done!" Isa fell back inside the carriage breathing hard. She and her beasts had used a lot of energy.
"That's a rest well earned." Clark handed Isa another water container that hadn't been mixed with Lit's poison.
"It was very impressive. It managed to attract a few of the one eyed owls." Ella was observing some of the beasts she could barely make out. Clark and Maria were not surprised to see that she was scribbling note after note in her journals at the same time.
"And here comes another carriage. I wonder why it doesn't have anyone on it?" Clark spoke slowly as they passed by the carriage that had slowed to a trot. All four of them looked to see the scratches that Devi had caused using the claws he could make. Clark and Maria didn't give up the fact that they knew what had caused it.
"They must have sped away in to another beast. They deserve it. Maybe they will think twice about causing us trouble!" Isa exclaimed her annoyance and victory before laying back down on the carriage. "I want to sleep." Her eyes closed and she started snoring before they had even made it five more minutes down the pathway.
"I think I can see the light of Doc's torch again." Maria looked ahead and sure enough, it was the other carriages. They had more than caught up and after another half hour managed to make it to a very wide open clearing.
"Now, it looks like we still have a straggler behind us but it's their loss for being slow. I am glad some of you managed to keep yourselves on time." Doc stamped out the fire of the torch causing everyone to wonder why they were standing at a stop in the dark.
"You may think we stopped in an odd place. I have had that experience myself. But what you can't see are the multiple pools of water around here making this area devoid of most trees in the usual growth patterns you would see. Instead, these pools and trees help a certain beast grow. A beast known as a water fairy, water sprite, and even a water dancer.
They have the same names for slightly different species, but all have one thing in common…"
The world began to light up in a strange blue light around them. The students couldn't hold back their gasps of surprise.
