Chapter 114: Rules Of The Road
Chapter 114: Rules Of The Road
The day that the research students were meeting to leave for Star city, Alexander had shown up to walk Clark and Maria there. Isa was surprised because she knew that Clark had a mentor, but not that it was a famous professor within the school.
"You two didn't tell me that you had such an important backer!" Isa's whispered scolding didn't phase Clark at all.
"Clark can't use his mentor to get things from other people. He just trains him and sends him to tough challenges." Maria had this as Alexander's forte by now. It was pretty clear that Alexander would purposefully make things harder and harder, even becoming the temporary villain, to improve his student.
"So this is the Rolly family child that is trying to start your business. I have heard you are spending a decent number of your connections to ensure that you have a positive start, even putting notice out that you will return from Star city with beast eggs, materials, and unique growth plans. Paired with your unique family skill in battle, I believe you can more than make that happen.
Especially if you are as determined as those brothers of yours."
"You've met my brothers?" Isa was surprised that her brothers would have met Alexander. He was a very famous person in Nova academy along with outside the academy if anyone went looking for information about him.
"The jeweler not so much, I am not a man that values gems unless me beasts need them. But your other brother, yes. He assisted myself and a friend recently with a journey to a dungeon. He and his employees brought back all of our findings. Not that we managed to make much of a dent in the dungeon." Alexander seemed light hearted but Clark could see a twinge of anger in his eyes.
"You're the one that paid him ten thousand gold to go out that far!?" Isa seemed to know more than she was letting on. But before she could keep drilling Alexander for more answers, Ella walked up to them.
"And you must be the young Ella Green. Just like your brother, very determined." Alexander was much more informed on everything. It was completely incredible how much he knew and remembered about every student around Clark. It could only be wondered if that was how he was with Clara as well when she was a student.
"Hello professor. Unfortunately, you are wrong, I am much better than my brother and I will show you the proof when I have gained enough funds for a plot of land to breed the beasts I am nurturing." This was a very bold statement but Alexander just smirked.
"A good attitude to have. I will leave you four to speak before your professor wants to leave. I have to have a few words with him." Alexander had clearly come to speak with Doc which wasn't a problem. It left Clark to figure out how he had managed to be surrounded by three girls.
"So, Isa succeeded in recruiting you to our business?" Clark wasn't sure how to start off. He didn't know much about Ella. there was a decent gap where he had to learn about her personality first.
"Yes, I am very excited about what she has offered me in a contract. I will also be able to speed up my plans. If I can manage, I will leave the academy early to begin the growth of my beasts." This was a surprise to both Maria and Clark. It was unusual that a student wouldn't want to stay all four years within the academy.
"You don't want to stay and graduate?" It was easy for Maria to ask since she felt that staying would only make everyone stronger.
"No. I need to start breeding beasts professionally so that I can make a name for myself. From there I can supply my allies and family with the most powerful beasts there are. If I stay here reading the same books and hearing the same lectures I will lose out on valuable beast breeding experiences. I will fail at first but that's the point.
Fail now so I can succeed later." The mentality was very down to earth.
"See? I recruited someone who will get better over time no matter what. I just can't convince her to tell me what her beasts are and why she wants to breed them." Isa was a little perturbed by this.
"Just let her tell us when she's ready. I'm sure she wants to see if she can trust us first. She's from a large family and knows how toxic others can be. Especially those from other families that could try and steal what she is working on." Clark looked at the two Cain family members casting slight glares toward their group.
"Alright! Bring it in. The route is simple, we will stop twice to rest and work on some things for a day each. We are dividing up in to carriages. Half of you will walk, the other half will rest. I expect you to gather materials, beast eggs, and experience during this journey.
Something will go to the academy for research. The rest will be your own."
Doc seemed to have spoken with Alexander aside from others and come back with an even stronger focus. He was already splitting them up in to groups for the sic carriages that would be their line. There were coincidentally four students in a carriage which meant that the rest was storage.
"Remember, your own safety is up to you. If you leave the route you must take responsibility. I will not chase you down even if you are my best student!" This was clearly a way for Doc to ensure that his students were smart enough to operate safely. But Clark had a feeling that Doc's eyes would remain on his group even though he said otherwise.
"Look at this! Top tier egg incubators? And even some material vials with runes on the glass. This is perfect!" The serious Ella became much more animated. She was a mad researcher finding the holy grail of research tools.
"I feel like I am going to learn a lot." Clark had little to no experience with what tools were necessary to store certain beast eggs and materials. Having someone with in depth knowledge would increase his own learning experience exponentially.
"You don't even know the half of it. Ella already has mapped out beast growth plans to get to adulthood, along with breeding land building plans. It is a wonder that no one else has reached out to try and give her everything she wants. The only thing holding her back is that she is still young." Isa was able to gather this much in her recruitment efforts.
"Then maybe I should talk to Ella about getting me another best. I know I have some recommendations but it might be better to have her take a look." Maria saw the potential that Ella had. She might be able to breed or find a uniquely bred beast for her that she wouldn't be able to find in the wild or for sale. Clark just nodded in approval since exploring all options was the best plan.
