Chapter 982 951: Leave No Survivors
Chapter 982 951: Leave No Survivors
Despite missing the opportunity to catch Wang Zhantian, it was an opportunity he let go of himself, so he felt no regret. Smoking quietly under the bright city lights ahead, he contemplated.
A shadowy figure was approaching. Xiao Lin swiftly turned and jumped, landing on the edge. The red dots flickered in the darkness, not avoiding nor attacking, the shadow simply approached without any hostile act.
A white card fell onto the table, seemingly placed there intentionally, and the shadow calmly walked away. Xiao Lin hesitated for a moment before putting the white card into his pocket. Suddenly, there was a sound like a massive explosion, falling bricks and shattered tiles rained from above.
Was the aerial pavilion bombed? Xiao Lin dashed into the building, sprinting all the way to the first-floor hall. The main program had ended; guests with lingering excitement were training their pets there, seemingly unaffected by the explosion on the second floor.
As he walked out the door, someone stopped him. "Sorry, sir, there's a bit of an emergency now, please wait inside." This time, it wasn't the bouncer stopping him, but typical men in black, who looked fierce, shoving him back inside.
Xiao Lin nodded and cooperatively returned to the first floor. The bar continued its business, not letting people in or out. He glanced around and realized Francis had vanished.
Quietly returning to the platform, Xiao Lin climbed a white decoration, hiding under the remaining half of a metal flower rack.
"Jack is dead?" someone asked in a deep voice.
"Bad luck for him, the bomb landed right behind his head, blowing him into pieces."
"Yeah, that's pretty unlucky. They say there was an Oriental man at the scene, but there's only one corpse here; could it be done by him?"
"The boss will be here soon; stop with the nonsense. Let's clear the scene quickly; be careful, or you'll lose your tongue." The same person threatened the latter, while Xiao Lin leapt down, landing lightly on the ground.
Jack is dead, Wang Zhantian is nowhere to be found!
"Sir, may I ask what you are doing here?" Xiao Lin stood straight after jumping down, his body illuminated by the light behind him.
Facing a pair of polished, shiny shoes, Xiao Lin turned around. The man before him was about 185 centimeters tall, golden hair tied back with a blue ribbon, his blue eyes carried a teasing smile. Elegantly dressed, with a white collar and a black satin ribbon, paired with a black vest and suit, he exuded a noble air.
"It's a bit stuffy inside, and the guys outside said we can't leave now, so I came out for some fresh air." Xiao Lin put his hands in his pockets, observing the man before him. No information about this person flashed through his mind from the dossier Charles had given him.
"These passages are not open to the public, and it's your first time here as a guest; raises questions about how you know the way to the kitchen, or perhaps you are the murderer?" The blond man seemed well-prepared, as Xiao Lin smirked.
"Seems like no matter how I explain it, you've already decided I'm the suspect!"
The blond man laughed. "I didn't say that; you just admitted you're the killer. Next question: how did you kill Jack?"
"Just like that, bang, and he was dead!"
"You are not the killer!" The blond man smiled, gesturing for his men to leave and walked up to Xiao Lin. "Jack was shot in the chest, not blown up. Now it's just the two of us; tell me who brought you here, and I'll let you go."
"I told you, it felt stuffy inside, so I came out to get some air. I saw a passage and took it. If it's not allowed here, remember to put up a sign next time."
"I'll remember." A man in black ran up to the blond man's side. "The boss found traces of someone in the back alley."
Xiao Lin frowned. "If I'm not a suspect, can I leave now?"
"Let's check out this suspect; as long as you're here, the suspicion can't be entirely cleared."
In the alley, the suspect found by the men in black lay on the ground, appearing badly injured, head drooped so that the face couldn't be seen. Xiao Lin silently clenched his fist, calculating his odds on the scene.
"Is this the one?" The blond man stopped about two steps away from the suspect.
"Yes, boss, he slipped away while we were cleaning up the scene."
"Hmm, are you going over yourself, or should I send one of my men?" the blond man asked Xiao Lin, a playful smile in his blue eyes becoming even more pronounced.
"I'm just a player!" Xiao Lin refused the blond man's request, standing on the same level as him.
"Interrogate him on the spot then!" The blond man tilted his head to the side. "You missed your chance to save your comrade, so now watch how he dies with your own eyes!" The voice was so soft only two people could hear it, yet it made Xiao Lin burst out laughing.
The suspect was obviously a Chinese man, with large wounds on his chest and abdomen. From what Xiao Lin saw, even if he managed to escape, he wouldn't survive long on the streets.
A man in black kicked the suspect in the stomach, causing a mouthful of blood to spew out. "They interrogate prisoners with extreme brutality." Xiao Lin said nothing, watching the beaten man with an indifferent gaze, as if he were looking at someone irrelevant.
"Jack was making a deal when he died, and there were witnesses that confirmed another Chinese man was on the scene. After the explosion, there was only one body, and I happened to see you jumping down from above. You're also Chinese, isn't that too much of a coincidence? Yet you can't explain how Jack died, so what should I do with you then?"
"Kill me or let me go!"
"Boss, this one's dead!" a man in black checked the suspect's breath, finding him lifeless on the ground.
"Take the body back, leave it at the door for three days, and see if anyone claims responsibility for this." The blond man walked into the building with his men without glancing at Xiao Lin again.
Xiao Lin watched the bloodstains on the ground, involuntarily twitching the corners of his mouth. Was killing a person unrelated to the case in front of him a demonstration of power?
The man's wounds weren't torn open by the explosion but were the result of severe beatings causing bones to break and protrude. Taking a deep breath, Xiao Lin lifted his head, gazing at the black night sky, and slowly moved towards the other end of the street.
Charles had been sitting in a small room waiting for Xiao Lin. He paced back and forth, feeling safe back in Italy, his small frame occasionally peering out the window.
The sound of the door handle turning made him jump down from the window and quickly hide behind the door. Only when Xiao Lin came in did he drop his guard. "Thank God, where did you go?"
"Charles, why are you here? Didn't we agree not to meet again?" Xiao Lin was surprised to see Charles suddenly appear in front of him.
"Didn't you watch the news?" Charles jumped onto the bed, placing his hands on Xiao Lin's shoulders, looking at him closely. "There was a report about a car explosion in a parking lot of a rehab center. I recognized the car as yours, I thought you... Oh, thank God you're alive!" With that, he hugged Xiao Lin tightly, his youthful face rubbing against Xiao Lin's chest.
"Charles, you shouldn't be here!" Xiao Lin pulled Charles off the bed, leaning against the wall between two windows.
"Arthur was killed in his own apartment the day after he returned. We're not as safe as we thought." Charles spoke softly, delivering the recent news he had heard, fearing he might be next.
"What?" Xiao Lin growled darkly. "Was it someone from within, or...?"
"It was an assassination. If the Godfather or the family wanted Arthur dead, they would have informed his family first and left it to them to execute the sentence. But I found out that in the Godfather's and family's meetings, no judgment had been passed for Arthur's unauthorized actions, yet he was gunned down in his own apartment, shot multiple times and fell in the stairwell.
"Shh!" Xiao Lin bent down, slowly creeping to the door, pointing to the shadow through the gap, beckoning Charles over. "Can you get a car?" Charles nodded. "Good! I'll distract them. Try to get the car to the front entrance in ten minutes, okay?" Charles nodded again.
Xiao Lin stood up, his hand on the door handle, swiftly opening the door, dragging the two men standing outside into the room, while Charles nimbly slipped out the door.
The men at the door, puzzled for a brief moment after being pulled inside, started attacking Xiao Lin.
Ten minutes felt long; Xiao Lin threw a left punch aiming at the face of the man coming from the right, with a snap, the man's nose was broken and he collapsed onto the bed, howling. Seeing his companion felled with one blow, the other hesitated momentarily, during which Xiao Lin propped his legs against the bed railing, launching a series of kicks to the left, landing powerfully on the other man's chest, leaving him no chance whatsoever, finally stomping hard enough to shatter his ribcage. Then, without hesitation, he struck the man on the bed's broken nose with a palm, shattering his skull.
Closing the door, Xiao Lin made his way down the corridor to the ground floor, where Charles was already waiting in the car. He jumped in, and they roared away.
My nightmare began with you, my knife was first raised against you, my life changed because of you, and tonight I think I can lean on you again to declare my arrival to them. (To be continued.
