Chapter 962 931: An Unequal Battle

Chapter 962 931: An Unequal Battle

Entering the sunlit building, an unexpected chill swept in, a coldness that didn't belong to the sunlight, as if living underground, touching the light but unable to feel its warmth.

The long hallway stretched forward, with one side of tall floor-to-ceiling windows draped in dark red velvet curtains, tied back with long, trailing locks, forming a beautiful fan shape from which the light shone down. On the other side were doors tightly shut, appearing not so deep from the outside, but upon entering, one would realize its unfathomable depths.

The sound of leather shoes clicked on the polished floor, with the pointed roof design allowing the echo to linger for a long time. Yelv Shou followed a man in a Chinese-style suit down the corridor and stopped in front of a door adorned with white statues.

"Before the official meeting, someone wants to see you," Yelv Shou was entering this place for the first time. It was different from the dark places under the city center; it appeared more formal and dignified, making him reevaluate what he knew about the dark.

Behind the door carved with a naked woman, balancing with the white, he walked in.

A table, a chair, a wall with a fireplace, and the person sitting in the chair looked solemn and mysterious, but his slightly red eyes held an evident intense will to fight.

"I thought it necessary to see you before the vote in the meeting, my dear Master of Darkness." By hierarchy, he should be under Yelv Shou, just a subordinate in the dark, but his composed demeanor made him seem like a king.

Yelv Shou cooled down, his gray eyes flashing a bloody light. "Among the dark, you, White Robe, are the most cunning. What do you have to say to me before the meeting?"

"Now everyone in the dark wants to skin you and cook you into soup. Do you know why?" White Robe, true to his name, wore a hemp robe that concealed his height and build as he sat. "Because everyone wants your position."

"The dark values strength, so if they want to, they can try to take it. I don't mind."

"What can one person's strength accomplish? They all want you dead, but I, White Robe, wish to survive under your leadership. If we can trust each other, then..."

"Boss Bai's point is what are the conditions for mutual trust?" Yelv Shou habitually kneaded his fingers. "Lord Bai hopes that once I succeed, I will open up a market for you, knowing that there are a few things that the dark doesn't deal with. Drugs, arms, and women, which one do you want to take?"

White Robe suddenly burst into laughter, his slightly red eyes gleaming with a sharp light. "Although my group under the dark's power isn't the largest, it is the most valiant. If you are willing to open up any of these paths, my men and I would follow you to death."

"Any of them? They're all capital crimes!" Yelv Shou felt his forehead throbbing, and even his chest pounded with an unstoppable rhythm echoing in his ears. "What if I say no?"

"Alas!" White Robe sighed theatrically. "Right now, all the big bosses except me are gathered in a room discussing how to punish you, the traitor of the dark, planning to use the affair with Black Crow to bring you down. I'm the only one remaining loyal, hoping you'll lead us forward. If you discard even me, then, Master of Darkness, you'll face ten massive organizations alone. Do you think you stand a chance?"

"A one-to-ten ratio, very low."

"So, if you can open one path, you can win over one of us, then it's two against nine. Doesn't that increase your odds? Plus, I can rally support for you, before nightfall, the voting results might change."

"That's indeed a good idea! Then you can use that weakness to blackmail me, becoming the true master of the dark, second only to one, above thousands, right?"

White Robe's eyes flickered, then he laughed sneeringly. "At least you can live to enjoy wealth and glory, better than becoming a cold corpse tonight, one of my collection."

"I've long heard of Lord Bai's strange tastes. Those previous dark masters never lived past thirty, their bodies mysteriously disappearing without a trace. The Bai Family has served the Yelv Family for generations, creating realms, yet the Yelv Family seems cursed; every successor dies before thirty, likely related to your Bai Family." Yelv Shou leaned forward, slowly approaching White Robe. "Aren't you heartbroken that those you planted by my mother's side have been cleaned up by me? Those incense by her side were a kind of slow poison. Such tactics are outdated."

The eyes were bloodshot. White Robe let out a whistle and stood up, his deformed body jumped onto the table, glaring at Yelv Shou. Seeing his furious rage, Yelv Shou started to snicker maliciously, one hand half-curved forward and the other slowly raised to his chest. This seemingly casual stance instantly elevated his entire aura to the extreme. A bloody murderous aura filled the space between the two, carrying with it a few threads of eerie sanctity.

"You want to kill me?" White Robe slowly uttered uncertain words, unable to detect the murderous intent. He couldn't believe this person would make such a reckless decision in such a crisis. This was the heart of darkness, where the bosses from various regions gathered. This person certainly wouldn't risk everything. "Killing me will only give them another excuse to kill you."

"Aren't you the one who provoked the trouble? Don't think I neither hear nor see anything. The spy you placed by my side is just a tool I use to convey messages to you. The Bai Family ends with you." Yelv Shou began moving his legs in a strange pattern, sometimes slow, sometimes fast. "I'm telling you, I don't plan to spare any of you today. If we're going to reshuffle, let's do it thoroughly. The darkness belongs to the Yelv Family, and even if it's not mine, none of you should think of getting it. I'd rather destroy it all than let it fall into your hands."

"What?" White Robe screamed, retreating.

Shadows enveloped him as he spoke, even as he quickly dodged, he couldn't separate from Yelv Shou's image. What kind of skill was this? White Robe was secretly shocked; this was not the Yelv he thought he knew.

In that instant of White Robe's frown, Yelv Shou's body trembled and charged forward fiercely, like a rapidly shaking camera. He swung a palm at White Robe, the fierce palm wind rushing toward White Robe's chest.

Without any hesitation, White Robe countered with two punches against Yelv Shou's swinging palm. The roaring fist wind was not inferior to Yelv Shou's, and the powerful gust, carrying an overwhelming momentum, struck back against Yelv Shou's chest.

A person who should have been unable to counter miraculously dodged the dead angle. White Robe suddenly found the person in front of him had disappeared before he could react. He felt as if his chest was suddenly hit by two iron hammers, making it impossible to breathe. A mouthful of bloody foam spewed out as he was sent flying and crashed into the window lattice.

Yelv Shou did not intend to let White Robe go. He leaped up, lifted a foot, and swept towards the fallen White Robe, giving him no respite. A person who had just made a misstep would not let it end like this. He hit the window lattices behind him with his elbows, using the rebound effect to fly out diagonally, instantly escaping Yelv Shou's attack.

"Even if you kill me, you won't escape from here." Amid counterattacks, White Robe roared at Yelv Shou, his legs launching a series of kicks, exposing his deformed reminder under his robe.

"For generations, the Bai Family has produced anomalies. To ensure you receive equal treatment, the Yelv Family took you under their wing. But you don't know gratitude and now you want to rise to the sky in one step, what a joke." Yelv Shou's disdain infuriated White Robe. He stopped dodging and shrank into a corner, his chest heaving violently. He gritted his teeth, and blood seeped from the gums, instantly painting his pale face into a grimace like a ferocious ghost.

"You shut up!" The frenzied White Robe disregarded his arms, which were already skinned and fleshless. His palms patted the ground, soaring into the air, spinning, bending his right leg, knees pressing down towards Yelv Shou's shoulder.

Accustomed to using legs, good at attacking, Yelv Shou did not underestimate White Robe's desperate attack. He took a step back and then stepped sideways to stabilize himself. Crossing his arms in front, he blocked White Robe's right leg, then bent his waist forward, exerting force to push White Robe's body into the air. Then he jumped and swung his right leg straight towards the falling White Robe.

With a booming sound, a black shadow was thrown onto the roof and then fell down like a kite, with lime layers drifting down like snowflakes.

White Robe fell heavily to the ground; the disparity in strength was not something brains could make up for at this moment. His conceited plan had pushed him to the edge of death.

Struggling to climb up, one mouthful of bloody foam after another spewed from his mouth. Bloodshot eyes contained courage that refused to give up even knowing he would die, somewhat evoking sympathy in Yelv Shou. Yet when he picked up the broken chair leg from the side, the thought of absolutely killing him arose from his heart.

Suddenly leaping above White Robe's head, Yelv Shou, with a muffled roar of anger, bent his right leg extremely, then violently sprang up, his toes viciously kicking into White Robe's right chest.

With a "puff," this incomparable kick shattered White Robe's chest bones, stabbing straight into his heart.

"You..."

"The reason the Bai Family has always been able to escape calamity is because no one knows that your heart is on the right side. Due to your unique physique, this hereditary secret has been hidden by you forever." (To be continued.
