Chapter 1012 780: Icebreaking Shield (2)

Chapter 1012 780: Icebreaking Shield (2)

The funeral took place in the family cemetery in the afternoon. Everyone present wore black uniforms and shirts, marked by a white flower pinned to their chest, after passing through strict security checks to enter the cemetery.

The cemetery was very quiet, and the priest's eulogy proceeded solemnly and slowly. Outside the cemetery, besides members of the two major families maintaining security order, there were people from other families waiting to enter gradually. Further out, there were police officers in plain clothes, more nervous than anyone here, watching the people inside with serious expressions and observing every move from high positions.

Wearing thick bulletproof vests, everyone was equipped with advanced weapons, ready to charge in at any irregular behavior from those inside.

A black car slowly entered the cemetery's gate from the avenue, followed by two smaller cars of the same color. The cars parked directly on the left side of the cemetery.

"The Mafia Godfather has arrived!" An agent whispered to Morro beside him, observing through binoculars that even amidst the crowd, the golden hair against the black attire stood out distinctly.

Nicholas, surrounded by people, entered the guest tent that had been set up. Family members of the two major families respectfully greeted him. Nobody spoke more than a word, and there was no crying. After reciprocating the greetings, Nicholas sat off to one side.

To the left was Lucchesi, his arm still in a sling, looking utterly exhausted. Carlo's youngest son stood at the upper left of the body, while Thomas's family had noticeably more people.

Augusto entered from outside and took a seat to Nicholas's right, whispering a few words in his ear before sitting up straight. The priest conducting the ceremony had already started, and a mournful sound began to resonate slowly at the time of burial.

The funeral ceremony proceeded in a concise and orderly manner. The police on high alert became tense the moment the body was buried. Nicholas stood at the front, placed the white flower from his chest down, then after expressing his gratitude to the family members of the two major families, he entered the black car. Lucchesi, Genovis, and other high-ranking individuals followed him out, all heading in the same direction.

"Chief, what should we do now?" Observing the family leaders follow their Godfather out of the cemetery after the ceremony with people on-site beginning to thin out, it seemed the funeral was concluding in this tranquil manner.

"Once everyone has cleared out, you can withdraw. Tell Swire to set up a preventive perimeter on Joseph Street, and don't act rashly without my orders." After finishing the call, Morro's sharp gaze swept over the people below before getting into the car.

At corner of 13 Joseph Street is a tall square building; its shutters are always closed, conceal thick lines, with the screen hidden in the darkness emitting through them.

Nicholas was slanted back in a chair, resting his eyes with a lazy expression. Besides members of the Gambino and Bernano families, everyone else was present.

"Carlo and Thomas are dead, Casab, you are the survivor of this incident; tell us, what exactly happened last night!" Nicholas raised one eye lazily, his indifferent demeanor prickling some people's nerves.

"A tall and burly man, immensely powerful, used a large round knife, the blade should be around eighty centimeters. Another person, short like a woman, wielded two double-edged axes, one about thirty centimeters and the other approximately the size of an adult man's palm. It was that woman who injured me." Casab took a breath, still seemingly dazed from last night's slaughter-like incident.

"Is that all?" Nicholas continued after a minute of silence. "Casab, Carlo and Thomas were no less capable than you. They didn't even have a chance to fight back before being decapitated, yet you only hurt your right shoulder. Don't you think you should explain this to us?" Nicholas's implication planted doubt in the others' minds. "Of course, I believe you are not a traitor, your Francis is still unconscious in the hospital; with your love for her, this is surely not your doing."

Casab shivered, pulling back his shoulders. "A man surnamed Hua saved me, also Jessica's fiancé."

"Hua Qingyi, Hua Family, one of the Four Great Families of Huaxia in Yanjing! Casab, you can't be so out of touch to recognize this nephew-in-law without even investigating his background!" The speaker was Murphy, a member of the organization, known for his meticulous and rigorous handling of the organization's paperwork.

"That's none of your concern; I'm well aware of his identity."

"Casab, this Hua Qingyi was already a notable figure on our radar upon entering Sicily. Alongside him was Xiao Lin, the future heir of the Xiao Family. Surely you are aware of this; the killers of Carlo and Thomas were from Xiao Family, 'Black Crow.' How do you explain surviving from their hands? What I know is Hua Qingyi and Xiao Lin are like brothers. Casab, did you reach an agreement with the Xiao Family, first using Jessica to snare Hua, then your daughter to appease Xiao Lin? We know very well that it was your daughter who bailed Hua out from the police station."

"Lucille! Shut your mouth!" Casab roared, and if this weren't Joseph 13, he would have sent that person to heaven. His brown eyes swept over everyone, each face filled with disdainful expressions as Casab unwillingly stood up.

Nicholas, seated at the highest position, moved slightly, reaching out with a barely visible motion to stand behind Casab, his hands firmly resting on his shoulders. "Sit down first!" Casab's heart trembled, the hands on his shoulders felt like two huge stones pressing down. "Now that we know the murderer, what's your suggestion?"

"Kill!" Almost in unison they responded, the room instantly filled with murderous intent.

"Carlo and Thomas are dead!" Nicholas slightly remarked, his blue eyes scanning Augusto.

"We will definitely eliminate the ones who killed them, but urgently, who will substitute their positions?" Augusto fiddled with the cigar in his hand; these people were old foxes, none willing to open this topic first. "These two positions are coveted by many, and now the police have us under serious scrutiny. Everyone remembers that anti-gang action back then, right?"

"So you're saying we should swallow this anger, letting that Xiao Family ride over us?" Casab exhaled a breath in agitation; Nicholas stood right behind him, daring not to be careless or reckless. "Francis is still lying in the hospital."

Nicholas rubbed his hands, pacing left to right centered on Casab. "I've given Xiao Lin three months to deal with a man named Wang Zhantian, who is now at the bottom doing little maneuvers, persuading those fringe followers. He holds the Rose Staff; what do you all think?"

"Rose Staff?"

"In Sicily, there's always been a legend that whoever holds the Rose Staff and Dharma Seal can rule the world's mafia, and now one is in Xiao Lin's hand, the other is with this Wang Zhantian. The former has evidence of killing our people, the latter hides in the shadows aiming to replace us seniors. Carlo and Thomas are dead; the stakes between these two should be clear to everyone. Now, the Eastern Three Provinces have been taken down, our arms trading route is being dismantled, and the next step might be our other market. Carlo had always been responsible for the Southeast Asian drug trade, and many want that lucrative part. I don't want to see internal strife, knowing the last Godfather died due to such shameful actions. Our greatest enemy right now isn't anyone else but ourselves."

Nicholas finally returned to his position. "Who betrayed our Sicily?" This last sentence was like a bomb thrown at everyone, followed by a series of hissing sounds. "Find this person, bring them to me, and I'll personally handle this traitor as an explanation for Carlo and Thomas."

"Godfather..." Michael turned his handsome face towards Nicholas. "If we don't deal with the murderer, it might be hard to win over the public."

"Yes, Godfather!"

"Godfather, Gambino and Bernano won't easily accept your suggestion. They'll definitely take action to avenge Carlo and Thomas, and Moro will surely be watching them, waiting to catch us off guard!"

"Pass my words to their people without fail. If they defy, kill them all, leave none." Nicholas's decision brought another gasp from the crowd below; his willfulness made him appear like a high snow lotus, cold and unapproachable.

"Slaughter!"

The agitated barking arose from the darkness, echoing the two words in the room, dropping the already tense atmosphere to zero.

"Who?"

"Who's there?"

The anxiety from tension caused everyone present to stand up abruptly, seemingly forgetting their location, searching all around for the source of the voice!

"Slaughter!" The deep, alluring voice resonated overhead, a black feather just landed in Nicholas's palm, instantly turning to ash. He revealed a strange smile as everyone had yet to react defensively, and he had already lunged towards a set of blinds. (To be continued.
