Chapter 1009 978: Blood-Red Night (Part 2)
In the vast hall, the music continued, and just when everyone began to think the rumor was just a joke, Casabell Jenvies walked onto the center stage. After one of his men tested the microphone, the owner of the mansion finally stood before the crowd.
"Today is the annual celebration of the Genovese Clan. I am very grateful for everyone taking the time to be here. Tonight is also our lovely Jessica's engagement night. I'm sure you have all heard, so now let's welcome the couple!"
Those below started to whisper among themselves, seemingly puzzled by a difference from the rumor—how could it be Jessica? At that moment, a couple descended the spiraling staircase.
Jessica, arm in arm with Hua Qingyi, wore a pure white gown, her long fishtail dragging on the floor. Her brown long hair was styled up, with a few strands hanging on either side. The man next to her, the one whose reputation spread mysteriously today.
A man even more beautiful than a woman, a man with extraordinary methods. No one knew what tactics he used, but he managed to acquire Palermo's two largest hotel family businesses and merged them with a global resort chain in just three days, catapulting the Genovese to become the wealthiest in Sicily, envied by all.
Suddenly, applause broke out, quickly followed by a wave of claps throughout the hall, blessing the couple.
Happiness seemed to descend on Jessica like starlight, turning her into the center of attention. No one thought of the real lady of the house, Frances, who stood at a side in a pink dress, with the balcony window behind her. The night breeze blew in, carrying a heavy scent of blood. Wrinkling her small nose, she slipped to the terrace when no one was watching.
It was the smell of blood! The entire air was filled with this scent. Frances climbed out onto the balcony, glanced down, then suddenly something unknown flew over her head. Startled, she loosened her grip and fell from the second floor onto the garden, losing consciousness.
A dark shadow stood on the terrace, looking at the woman fallen on the ground below, then let out a chilling laugh. Behind him was the joyous laughter of the hall, oblivious to any unnatural occurrences. Hua Qingyi, led by Jessica, greeted the business magnates and other family members one by one.
When people relax, they tend to drop their guard against surrounding dangers. So, when the bright hall suddenly plunged into darkness, panic ensued. Women screamed, men shielded their ladies, while simultaneously drawing guns to find cover. Those present were survivors of bloody shootouts, and despite the moment of hesitation, they made the best choices instantly.
Hua Qingyi pushed Jessica against the wall, shielding her with a pillar. "Where's Frances?" seemingly realizing something, Hua Qingyi questioned the woman behind him.
"I, I don't know, she was just behind us, could she still be in the room?"
"Stay here and don't come out, I'll go find her!" With that, Hua Qingyi had already dragged a chair to block in front of Jessica and ascended the stairs to the second floor in the darkness.
Two spotlights beamed onto the central stage, targeting Casabell Jenvies protected by bodyguards in the corner. An object flew from afar, landing on the stage, rolling to Casabell's feet. Moments later, more fell onto the stage, and suddenly, one spotlight shifted to a round object facing forward—a human head!
"Carlo Gambino! It's Carlo Gambino!" someone shouted, as the hall lights suddenly brightened, revealing two figures on stage. One was tall and burly, the other small like a monkey, holding a bizarre axe in one hand, and in the other, the head of Thomas, ruler of one of the five Italian Mafia families, the Bernano Clan.
The entire audience was in uproar, witnessing the sudden upheaval, seeing two family patriarchs of the five families decapitated overnight, and the killer brazenly standing amidst them, showing no regard for the Mafia bosses.
On stage, of the two figures, one approached Casabell, tossing the head at his feet and raising the axe, pointing at him. "Now it's your turn!" The arrogant tone sparked those, who regained a bit of sanity after the shock, into anger. Gun clicks echoed, and the hall immediately plunged into chaos.
The two on stage, one facing Casabell, while the tall person hurled a standing microphone towards the charging people, unsheathed a machete from his back, and leaped off the stage, taking down many with his overwhelming might.
Casabell waved away his enclosing bodyguards to stand. "Who are you people?"
"My boss wants to borrow something from you. I wonder if the Genovese Clan is willing to surrender it!" The diminutive person was a woman, not with a sharp voice, but neither as deep as a man's.
"What do you want?"
"Your lives! Only with your deaths, can he accomplish his grand ambitions."
"What a joke!" Casabell roared, and his bodyguards immediately closed in. However, even before they approached the woman, a flash of silver light swished past, slicing the men's bodies into pieces, scattering them onto the stage. It wasn't just speed but force—Casabell had never witnessed such a bloody scene, not even feeling such terror in their last family war. At this moment, he felt it.
The woman charged, hands wielding a thirty-centimeter axe, the other holding the previously bizarre little axe, approaching Casabell like a butcher!
Fear slipped through his heart, but Casabell was not blinded by it. In a flash, he darted to the side. As he moved, the woman followed, and just as Casabell stopped, she was already in front of him. A flash of silver descended from above, aiming for Casabell's neck.
Clang! The sharp double-edged axe did not land on Casabell's neck. The woman uttered a surprised sound, as she was quite confident in her strike's accuracy, doubtful of how Casabell's head remained intact.
"Who are you?" The woman squinted at the man in front of her, who was even more beautiful than she was. "Hua Qingyi? Xiao Family's heir's little follower?"
The woman suddenly laughed coquettishly. The large axe was blocked by Hua Qingyi using a lamp rod broken to twenty centimeters in length. She pressed down hard, her left leg making a half-circle as she pressed on the thirty-centimeter handle. Her body bent at 180 degrees, the small axe originally in her right hand switched to her left, striking towards Casabell's shoulder.
Thud! Thud! Blood spurted out instantly, splattering on Hua Qingyi's face. The woman stared strangely at the axe she had swung, then at Hua Qingyi, with confusion on her face.
Hua Qingyi flicked his toe, sending the woman flying two meters away with her axe. He swung the lamp rod in his hand and leaped towards the woman's left shoulder.
The sound of air breaking erupted into sizzling hisses as it neared the woman, seemingly transmitted through a nearby fallen microphone. The woman took a step back. This man, more beautiful than she was, had a murderous aura that was as sharp and penetrating as the microphone's blare.
Bang! The one who intercepted Hua Qingyi's attack was a burly man who shielded the woman. The twenty-centimeter lamp rod pierced through the man's shoulder blade, entering from the front and exiting from the back.
"Seven!" The woman glanced at the twenty-centimeter lamp rod and, without further ado, grabbed her axe and lunged towards Hua Qingyi on the side.
"Let's go!" The man pulled the woman, as numerous henchmen from the Black Gang poured in from the door. The man in front of them, even combining their strength, they might not be able to hold their ground.
"But..." The woman wanted to object, but she was already hoisted onto the man's shoulder.
"Catch them!" Seeing that reinforcements had arrived, Casabell ordered the capture of those preparing to flee.
"Let them go!" Hua Qingyi said in a low voice, looking at the backs of the two people.
"Catch!" Casabell supported his shoulder, giving the young man in front of him a glance, insisting on his idea.
"Francis is missing!" Hua Qingyi calmly uttered a few words that nearly made the gang leader lose his footing. "The moment those two entered the hall, Francis disappeared. Mr. Genovese, shouldn't you be more concerned about Francis' whereabouts? As for those two, I know who they are."
"You know?" Casabell was surprised, staring at Hua Qingyi while directing some men to search for Francis, and others to clean up the scene. When Casabell turned back around, the entire hall looked like a slaughterhouse, blood covering the floor, and some fallen people unrecognizable.
Hua Qingyi nodded. "'Black Crow's' clown and code seven!"
"'Black Crow'? That notorious assassin organization in the underworld! So, they're from China?" Casabell practically shouted, his eyes bulging as if he wanted to devour the person in front of him. "Is it you? Did you conspire with these people to wipe out our Italian Mafia?"
Hua Qingyi, grabbed by the collar, gave Casabell Jenvies a mocking look. "Let go!"
Casabell was taken aback by the sudden chill exuded by Hua Qingyi. "Who in the underworld doesn't know that China's 'Black Crow' is an arm of the Xiao Family, and aren't you and that Xiao Lin close as brothers? Now that 'Black Crow' has killed our gang members, what's your explanation?"
"He's him, I'm me! With what you have, you're no match for them. If it wasn't for me just now, would you even have the qualification to stand here and speak to me?"
"You..."
"Boss, we found the young lady. It seems she fell from upstairs and is now unconscious."
"Call an ambulance!" (To be continued. If you like this work, you're welcome to vote with recommendations or monthly tickets at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
