Chapter 664: Lining up at the Outskirts
I see now that my prediction was too optimistic.
I ended up having to build the headquarters of three knight orders In the outskirts of the Central District of the Sanctuary.
These buildings would serve as both the headquarters, as well as the lodging for the knights, but it was a set of an administrative building, a male dormitory, and female dormitory. And I made three identical sets there, and one by the seaside totaling four sets.
I had to build a large shared training facility, along with indoor training grounds as well as outdoor training grounds.
It’s not that I was making light of Salamander or Gnome.
But I’ve only ever seen those two drinking or lazing around in the Sanctuary. I didn’t expect them to scout people themselves.
Because of that, I heard that, aside from Undine’s which mainly consisted of the Mermaids living in the Sanctuary, there were around thirty members gathered for Sylph’s, Salamander’s, and Gnome’s knight orders.
Thanks to that, I suddenly had to prepare buildings for the knights.
It would have been a piece of cake had it only been a matter of constructing the buildings, but they left everything, from interior design to furniture placements, and installation of magic devices, to me.
Well, I did like creating things, and it WAS my job, so I guess it’s fine.Just as I had more or less finished constructing the buildings, I asked Sylph and Salamander a question that suddenly came to mind.
「Hey, don’t knights ride horses?」
「「……I forgot.」」
As I thought, they really didn’t think things through.
Returning to the mansion, we decided to talk to Sophia, who was overseeing the training of the samurai trio.
Even though they’re knights, it might not necessarily mean that they would be a cavalry, after all.
「Ah! …………」
When I asked Sophia about the horse issue, she made a “woops” kind of face.
Yup, she forgot.
「So you were under the assumption it would be horse riders, didn’t you?」
「……Yes. Since they would be expected to patrol around the Sanctuary, I thought the cavalry would be essential.」
As I thought, Sophia had presumed that the knights would be on horseback. I suppose that’s normal.
However, Gnome said that his own order didn’t need it.
「Hmm, my knights won’t need horses. 」
「Eh, you don’t need it, Gnome?」
「Yeah, dwarven bodies are ill-suited for horses.」
「I see, I guess that’s true.」
「My knights order won’t need horses either. Our scope of activity will mainly be at sea. But we might want to tame some sea monsters.」
「That’s true, Undine’s wouldn’t need it either. Though I do think getting some riding practice wouldn’t hurt though.」
「That’s true. In actuality, the Mermangers can fight on land too.」
Actually, in terms of strength, Fluna and the Mermangers are ahead, not just slightly, but overwhelmingly so. So it would be a waste to not have them practice horseback riding.
「Ah- oh yeah. Takumi, hand me the map of the Savage Lands.」
「Hm? A map? Give me a sec.」
As if remembering something, Sylph asked to me to take out the map of the Savage Lands.
The map wasn’t perfect, but we were able to make a somewhat accurate map with everyone’s help.
I took out a reserve copy of the map from my Item Box and laid it out on the table, then Sylph pointed towards a spot.
「Yeah, yeah, here, I think there are several herds of Battle Horses roaming the grasslands here and in the hilly areas.」
「Battle Horses, you say. Aren’t those monsters a rank higher than Demon Horses?」
Maybe she heard it from her familial spirits, or saw them herself, but Sylph said that herds of Battle Horses were there.
However, a Battle Horse was different from a Demon Horse, as it was a monster that was a bit more challenging to tame. Demon Horses were used to pull carriages even in Valkyra Kingdom, but there’s practically no one using Battle Horses.
「What are you saying? Takumi, didn’t you tame Tsubaki?」
「If you say that, I can’t refute it.」
Sure enough, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Tsubaki, after having evolved several times, was now basically like a dragon. Having been able to tame a creature like that just to pull carriages and be a saddle horse, the Battle Horse was just cute in comparison.
「Okay, fine. I am also interested in that Battle Horse, and if I have Kaede and Tsubaki with me, I’d have no problem herding them back.」
「We’ll leave it to you then.」
「Then I’ll build a stable for the Battle Horse near the headquarters for the Dwarves.」
「Gotcha, I’ll leave you guys to prepare for their arrival.」
「Selene and Dryas will help me out, so it’ll be fine.」
After we finished our discussion, I took Kaede and Tsubaki to the Savage Lands.
Gnome left to build the stable.
I wonder what kind of monster the Battle Horse is. I’m a bit excited.
