Chapter 656:  More Ladies…… And then

I coordinated with Lord Simon on the schedule, then went to the Royal Capital to conduct interviews with people who wished to become school teachers and staff, as well as those who wished to study music with the orchestra.

As always, the interviews were conducted by Sophia, Akane, and I, along with four of the Great Spiritsー Undine, Sylph, Selene, and Nyx.

As written on the list Lord Simon had provided in advance, most applicants were young women.

Among them were a few with individuals that had many years of being a private tutor under their belt, but they were the minority.

Such accomplished individuals who had also passed the Great Spirits’ screening were immediately considered teacher candidates.

Perhaps because Lord Simon had also investigated their family backgrounds and factions in advance, there were very few especially troublesome characters.

That said, there was no way we could approve everyone’s immigration.

According to Undine and Selene, even if the applicants themselves had no issues, there were cases where the problems were with their parents or noble sponsors.

During a break in interviews, I asked where they heard that about those people. Sylph and the others said that they did background checks of their circumstances. They entrusted it to their familial spirits though.

「What do you do with the applicants with troublesome parents or guardians?」「If the applicant themself was not problematic, and if their parents or guardians weren’t planning anything too sinister, they may pass.」

「It would be wrong to reject someone simply because their parents or factions were problematic, no?」

「You’re right about that.」

It’s as Sylph and Undine had said. Even if the parents and guardians were plotting things, they were likely to be safe as long as they remained in the Sanctuary.

And so, the number of people aspiring to become school teachers and staff in the Sanctuary increased. Some had also been scouted by Madam Rosary, Madam Elizabeth, and Madam Lumia to become personnel for the government office.

We would need to build a housing complex for those coming to study with the orchestra, but it would take them some time to travel from the capital to the Sanctuary, so it could be done during that time.

For some reason, a few days after returning to the Sanctuary, Lord Simon sent a list.

「What’s this about? We just finished interviews a few days ago.」

「Let’s take a look inside first.」

「Y-yeah, you’re right.」

As Akane suggested, I took out the pile of documents containing the list from the box and scanned them.

「……let’s see, they want to hold another round of interviews.」

「Let’s see, ……hmmm, there’s a lot of men this time.」

「Now that you mention it, there are.」

「Most are third sons or below. For matchmaking?」

「Matchmaking? What do you mean?」

「Well, the number of young women in the Sanctuary is increasing by a lot with the most recent interviews, right?」

「Yeah, it is.」

For some reason, majority of the people accepted during the interviews were young women. Thanksk to that, the number of women increased significantly.

「Moreover, they’re all young women with an education and good upbringing.」

「Yeah, that’s true.」

「The clincher is that they’ve been authorized by the Great Spirits. For the third sons and lower who wouldn’t be succeeding their houses, this may be a chance to gain employment and a wife.」

「Ohh! So it’s killing two birds with one stone.」

I realized it when Akane mentioned it.

It’s not only this time, even my aides and those working in the government office, they had all been guaranteed a certain degree of character by the Great Spirits to some extent.

This time, we ended up with a lot of skilled women coming to the Sanctuary, but they were also excellent candidates.

「Then, I suppose I can’t refuse……」

「The people immigrating here have different objectives though.」

「What? The objectives of these guys?」

「No, I’m talking about these ones. But it’s fine if the men increase too, no? They probably won’t all be excellent individuals, but if they pass Sylph and the other’s selection process, then it’s fine even if they’re NEETs.」

「I’m not sure about NEETs, but they don’t need to be outstanding.」

The school and government office need skilled individuals, but there are other simpler jobs in the Sanctuary.

Then Akane suggested that we accept them so long as they weren’t inclined to commit crime.

「Well, it might be a problem if they cause trouble for other Sanctuary citizens, but in such cases, we could just exile them. NEETs rely on their parents, but it’s fine to accept them. Sylph and the others wouldn’t give their okay if those people are complete nuisances.」

「I’d prefer it if we can avoid NEETs, but some diversity could be necessary. Okay. I’ll contact Lord Simon about scheduling the interview.」

It would be problematic if only the number of young noblewomen increased once they start searching for future spouses, so it would be a good idea to balance it out by increasing the number of noblemen.
