Shattered by Fate, Restored by Truth

Chapter 697: Fear

Chapter 697: Fear

Chen Lei explained the cause and effect of the incident, including where those two women are now and also including Su Wanxin’s indifferent attitude after the incident.

Like a class representative in his school days who loved to tattle to the teacher, he spilled everything about the mistakes made by the student named Su Wanxin, feeling relieved after he finished talking.

After hanging up the phone, Fu Shihan contacted Lin Rui to deal with the matter. Then he leaned back in his chair, recalling Chen Lei’s words with his eyebrows tightly furrowed.

Su Wanxin was busy all afternoon and unknowingly, it was time to leave work in the evening. She was completely unaware until Fu Shihan’s call reminded her that it was time to go home.

Fu Shihan’s car was parked outside the company, and Su Wanxin saw it as soon as she walked out.

She went over and got into the car, fastening her seatbelt before asking in confusion, "Why are you here?"

Fu Shihan glanced at her and started the car without saying a word.

Su Wanxin could feel that his mood was a bit off, but she didn’t realize he already knew about the incident that had happened in the afternoon.

After all, who would have thought that President Chen, a man in his thirties, would still engage in such petty backbiting?

Fu Shihan drove for a while, and after the car went up onto the elevated highway, he finally spoke in a low voice, asking her, "Don’t you have anything to tell me?"

Su Wanxin, deep in thought and reflecting on the day’s events, was startled by his question and turned to look at him.

The sky had darkened, and the outside moonlight and dim streetlights cast shadows on his face.

Su Wanxin couldn’t discern the emotions in his eyes, only seeing his tall nose and the light-colored thin lips pressed into a line, seemingly restraining his anger.

Did she upset him?

No, right?

Su Wanxin thought she had behaved quite well. She had been angry with him only yesterday, and today upon seeing him, she had forgotten all about her sore back and legs.

Following his lead, she pondered for a moment, then considered a rather unlikely but seemingly very possible scenario.

"Um..." Su Wanxin hesitated to begin, "Do you think I should say something?"

Fu Shihan frowned at her, and that look made Su Wanxin even more certain of her internal guess.

Did he know about what happened at noon? Who told him?

"I went to the police station at noon..." Su Wanxin prudently confessed, "But it’s all right now."

"All right?" Fu Shihan felt Chen Lei’s description was spot on; she really didn’t take her own danger seriously. "Do I need to educate you again about what sulfuric acid is?"

Su Wanxin was scolded and puffed up like a pufferfish, holding her breath and then releasing it, making a particularly indecent sound, similar to the release of harmful gases... which made Fu Shihan turn back to look at her.

She laughed at the sound, sighed, and her smile gradually faded as she looked out the window at the busy traffic.

"No need, I know."

"Then you’re not afraid? After such a serious incident, why didn’t you call me?"

Su Wanxin’s eyes dimmed slightly, and after a moment of silence, she said, "Of course I’m afraid. How could I not be?"

Who isn’t afraid of death, she’s no deity, not an exception.

In the office that afternoon, whenever she saw someone walking towards her holding a cup of water, she subconsciously braced herself, and later simply stopped going out, staying in her office.

"But no matter how big the incident, it’s all in the past. Calling you would only increase your anxiety and waste your time. I’m not a child anymore; I can’t just seek out someone to back me up whenever something happens."
