Chapter 121: Pattern Emerges (2)

Chapter 121: Pattern Emerges (2)

Everyone paused before they turned to see Louis waving his hands at them from the far corner of the vault.

But then all of them blinked.

With some of them even rubbing their eyes.

Reinhard raised a brow when he saw Louis struggling under the weight of a massive book. It was easily three feet tall and bound in dark leather. He dropped it onto the table with a heavy thud that sent dust flying.

"... Louis, what is that?" Sirin questioned with an absurd look.

"History-"

"Louis!"

"Alright, alright. It’s just a compilation of catastrophic magical events." Louis explained with a chuckle. "I found this in the restricted disaster documentation section. It has information on everything related to major disasters over the past thousand years."

"You do know if anyone sees we have that, we are screwed, right?" Rika says as she holds her head.

"I know, but I figure it might have the information we need. And behold!" He flipped through thick pages until he found what he was looking for. "Here. Two hundred years ago. Look at this."

Everyone came over and peered down.

The page showed a detailed map of the northern region of the continent with reports of magic and distortions.

The readings were off the charts. Whatever happened two hundred years ago was catastrophic.

"According to this," Louis read aloud, "a massive magical event occurred in what is now the Silent Peak region. The geological survey from afterwards describes a mountain range that didn’t exist before. Multiple eyewitness accounts from nearby cities report that the mountains appeared overnight."

"Overnight?" Alice said in disbelief. "An entire mountain range formed in one night?"

"C-Could it have been created by a Lord?"

"Nope, it wasn’t done by a Lord." Louis pointed to another part of the book. "This section here says multiple Lords tried to investigate, but none of them could find an answer."

"Not even the Lords could tell?" Rika asked in disbelief.

"If not even the Lords could see through the mountain... Then that would be proof the mountain is related to something beyond a Lord."

Louis nodded with a grin. "Not only that, but the magical readings suggest a terrifying amount of magic was released. Enough that it’s able to affect the entire continent, with reality itself reshaping to create mountains."

Reinhard leaned over the text, reading the eyewitness accounts:

"The earth shook all night, and all of us thought it was the end of the world. When dawn came, mountains stood where plains had been just hours before. Mountains so tall they scraped the sky. And at their peak was a light that hurt anyone who looked for too long."

Another account described.

"The Hunters said something was being sealed and that the mountain isn’t something to be explored... But a seal."

"This is it," Sirin breathed while reading over Reinhard’s shoulder. "This is what we needed. Proof that Silent Peak was deliberately created as a seal."

Louis flipped to another page. "There’s more. A formal record from the old Hunter Council describing what they called ’The Sealing.’"

He read aloud.

"By unanimous vote, the Council authorized emergency collision of every Hunter on Astralisis in lending their energy to help complete the seal. The entity’s awakening threatened reality itself, and since it exists beyond the laws of death, we could only imprison it."

They couldn’t do anything to stop its awakening and could only focus on sealing it.

"We reshaped the land itself to create a prison. At the peak, we anchored the seal directly to the Sovereign’s essence. The prison is part of it now... But we fear it won’t last forever."

"The mountains are the seal," Reinhard said slowly. "Silent Peak itself is the prison. This confirmed what we believed before: the Void users are being drawn there by the Void Sovereign."

"But for what? Is it calling them to unseal it?"

"Maybe, but that’s something we will find out when we go there," Reinhard says softly.

His words made the others frown. If they do reach the peak, they may have to interact with the Void Sovereign and somehow survive the encounter.

Alice photographed every page with her recording crystal. "Alright, now we have the proof, we are ready to show the headmaster."

"But does it prove that going there is worth the risk?" Louis asked. "These accounts suggest it’s a death trap by design."

"It proves the connection between Yor’s power and the Sovereign," Sirin argued. "If the Assembly gave her power using the Sovereign’s essence, understanding that connection requires going to the source."

The vault door burst open with a bang.

Yor rushed in, breathing hard from running, making everyone pause, and then blinked.

"Yor? Why are you here? Did you-" Louis started.

But Yor quickly interrupted him with her face displaying urgency. "My parents told me everything," she gasped out. "Silent Peak wasn’t built! It was created by the First Void Sigil wielder as a training ground and sanctuary a hundred years ago, long before the sealing happened. But fifty years ago, something changed, which is why no one returns!"

Reinhard’s eyes widened as he realized it now.

The timeline didn’t match. If the mountains were created two hundred years ago as a prison. But the First Void Sigil wielder created a training ground there one hundred years ago...

He furrowed his brows, trying to make sense of the contradiction. "Wait. The records say the mountains were created two hundred years ago as a seal. But your parents say a Void user created a training ground there a hundred years ago?"

Yor nodded frantically. "Yes! That’s what doesn’t make sense! My parents have family records that—" She stopped, looking around at the vault. "This is too complicated to explain here. Let’s go to the club room."

Everyone nodded.

They began carefully putting away the ancient texts, marking their places for later reference. Louis took extra care with the massive disaster tome, returning it to its shelf in the restricted section.

The walk back to the club room was silent.

Yet all of them were thinking about what Yor had told them and made them wonder. Could it be that what was documented was just a lie?.

The mystery was deepening.

And they were running out of time to solve it.
