Chapter 632: News of the supernova breaks

Chapter 632: News of the supernova breaks

After Alpha Kemel's sun exploded and went supernova, the first thing to hit all the planets was the intense light that was UV, gamma rays, and X-rays.

They quickly began to fry the atmospheres of any of the planets that had them and sterilise the planets.

A few hours later, depending on how far it was from the exploding sun, the next thing to hit was the intense gas and stellar plasma. This caused any oceans on those planets that had them to boil and eliminate what little atmosphere remained.

As the blast wave continued, everything it hit began to vaporise. Planets, moons, space stations, and anything else physical in the solar system all vanished from existence.

“Universal Subspace Network News, bringing you all the news all the time, universe wide.”

“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I’m Sinead Quintana and tonight we start with a very disturbing report.

I am sorry to say that the solar system where Alpha Kemel, the homeworld of the Gargolian race, is located, has been wiped out.

Early reports say the cause of this is the solar system's sun going supernova, which is surprising because the last analysis of the sun suggested it wasn’t heavy enough for it to be capable of that and it wasn’t supposed to die out at all for another four and a half billion years.

We are still trying to ascertain the exact reason why Alpha Kemel’s sun all of a sudden went supernova. What we can report, however, is that a short while prior to it happening, the Kemel Galaxies jumpgate closest to Alpha Kemel mysteriously went offline and lost connection with the rest of the gate network.

Strictly speaking, it is still unconfirmed whether the jump gate going offline has anything to do with the supernova or is a wholly separate incident; however, the timing of these two events seems to be too coincidental for them to be unrelated.

As stated previously, the supernova wiped out all life in the solar system, including the majority of planets, with only a few that resided at the very edge of the solar system managing to avoid destruction.

Maybe the only two saving graces were the fact that since the Alpha Kemel’s sun shouldn’t have been heavy enough to be able to go supernova, the blast wave didn’t leave the solar system, sparing the surrounding solar systems and also the fact that a black hole won’t be formed from its destruction.

We here at USNN send our sympathies to the Gargolian race, who have lost most of their kind in this tragic incident.

We have also just learned that the Universal Senate has been called into an emergency session to discuss this matter…”

Sinead was about to continue when her director spoke to her through her earpiece, causing her to pause and listen before she spoke again.

“Apologies, viewers, but as this is a developing story, we are receiving new information all the time regarding it, and we at the USNN have just been sent a video that shows the moment when Alpha Kemel's sun went supernova.

The video is from an unknown source; however, our experts here have analysed the video and determined that the sun in the video is indeed the former sun in question.”

As Sinead finished speaking, a video was shown that looked suspiciously like the final moments from Adam’s stream.

“Are we certain that the sun in this video is indeed the sun Alpha Kemel orbits and not some idiot's idea of a sick joke?” The supreme speaker asked from her position in the very centre of the universal senate's senate hall.

“Our experts have compared the footage in the video to data we already had on file and we can confirm that it is indeed a video of the Alpha Kemel’s sun at the time of it going supernova,” an individual wearing a lab coat said from a large holographic screen that hung in the air of the senate chamber.

“Do we know where the video originated?” The supreme speaker asked.

“As of this moment, we are still trying to ascertain that information,” the lab coat-wearing individual replied.

“Then keep working on it,” the supreme speaker ordered before closing the holographic window.

A holographic projection of an individual who appeared to be made out of some mineral suddenly materialised in the air of the senate chamber before demanding, “The Kemel Galaxy demands a full investigation into exactly what caused one of our suns to go supernova. All information said that our sun should have survived another four and a half billion years.”

“We, of course, plan to perform a full investigation into what happened, Kemel Galaxy Senator,” the supreme speaker replied.

“Objection,” Another voice said before the holographic projection of a large sphere of water appeared and continued. “Since the Gargolian home world no longer exists, the Aegir Galaxy petitions that the Kemel Galaxy should lose its position and right to voice its opinion in this chamber.”

“HOW DARE YOU!” The Kemel Galaxy senator roared before adding, “For all we know, this is something your spineless race schemed.”

“I understand that you are upset over these tragic events, but that is baseless slander and you have no evidence to support that claim since there is none,” The Aegir Galaxy senator replied before the two started to argue.

In another part of the senate chamber, a dark-skinned Pyroth woman with red scales around her neck, who stood high on a long, thick tail, rolled her eyes before saying, “That damn Sedna will take any opportunity to cause trouble with other races even slightly connected to the elements.”

Vu, the Ambassador for the Ashes Galaxy, smiled and shook his head, but opted not to speak on the matter. But as he continued to listen to the two senators argue, he suddenly received a message on his uniband.

As he looked at the message and read through it, his eyes widened in surprise, causing his assistant Vespera, a Pyroth woman who noticed his reaction, to ask, “Is something wrong, Vu?”

Vu didn’t reply directly and instead said, “Vespera, contact the Sandanar Galaxies senator.”

“Err, sure,” Vespera replied before doing as instructed.

“SILENCE, SILENCE!” The supreme speaker finally shouted and only continued speaking after both senators finally calmed down. “Aegir Galaxy Senator, now is not the time to be discussing the matter of the Kemel Galaxy no longer having a voice in the Senate, especially since only one solar system was destroyed and not the entire galaxy.

Our priority should be on discovering exactly what happened to cause the supernova and deciding how we can support the remaining Gargolians.”

“Of course, supreme speaker,” the Aegir Galaxy senator replied.

“I may be able to assist with that, Supreme Speaker,” Vu suddenly announced as a holographic image of him appeared.

“What do you mean? Ashes Galaxy Senator?” The supreme speaker asked.

“I have just received a message from Phoenix Empress Revi explaining exactly what happened in the solar system in question, prior to Alpha Kemel’s sun going supernova,” Vu replied, causing murmurs to spread through the senate chamber.

“It seems we are all eager to hear what you have to tell us. Please proceed,” the supreme speaker stated.

“Then I request the assistance of the Sandanar Galaxy's Senator, since it involves the Terran Imperial Princess Tessa Terrana,” Vu stated. A holographic projection of Timothy Dickins, the Sandanar Galaxy Senator, quickly appeared.

“Thank you, Senator Vu,” Timothy said gratefully before he began to explain what happened. “During its journey to the Galamedees Galaxy, the Terran Imperial Space Force ship Imperial Down was attacked while transporting Princess Tessa Terrana to her meeting with Princess Liluth Solar.

The Imperial Down was knocked out of subspace when the Kemel Galaxy jumpgate situated closest to Alpha Kemel was destroyed...”

“So what you're telling us is that one of our solar systems was destroyed by some unknown race, group or organisation that wanted to kill your princess?” the Kemel Galaxy Senator asked in rage after Timothy finished explaining.

“That does indeed appear to be the case, Senator,” Timothy admitted.

“Why does any issue that comes to the Senate's attention recently seem to involve your Terran race?” the Senator of the Galamedees Galaxy asked in an accusing tone as his holographic projection appeared.

“I would politely remind the Galamedees Galaxy Senator that it was his princess who invited mine to visit and discuss closer relations,” Timothy replied, causing the Galamedees Galaxy senator to frown before his holographic projection disappeared.

“Thank you for informing us of this, Sandanar Galaxy Senator. We understand how you are aware of this since it was your ship that was attacked,” the supreme speaker said before turning to Vu and asking, “But how did the Phoenix Empress become aware of this before any other race in the Senate … and do you know whose ship it was that came to rescue the Imperial Down?”

Vu and Timothy exchanged looks before Vu said, “The Phoenix Empress became aware of this before anyone else because the one who saved the Imperial Down was the Black Knight.”

As he finished speaking, the Senate chamber once again broke out into murmurs before the supreme speaker announced, “The Senate chamber will now enter closed session; all non-senators are instructed to leave immediately.”
