Chapter 659 648: Ingenious Uses of Cars (Part 2)

"The key to the success or failure of this battle lies in whether we can hold these two car doors. I'm not strong enough, so I entrust this task to you two, Qiang and Uncle Zhao. If you feel your strength waning, you must say so in advance, don't force it. Otherwise, if the zombies break through any car door, we'll be trapped in this room."

"Damn it! Brother, you should have said so earlier. So that's the plan! I..."

"Bang!" Before Wang Qiang could finish speaking, a massive force came through the car door in front of him.

"Watch out!" Tang Xiaoquan dropped the oil drum in his hand and rushed to Wang Qiang's side, barely managing to hold the door against the impact, narrowly preventing the zombies from pushing it open.

"Damn! I was careless! I was careless!" Wang Qiang had been too focused on talking and didn't notice a Runner was charging towards him. If it hadn't been for Tang Xiaoquan's timely realization and intervention, they might have been in grave danger.

Tang Xiaoquan, still feeling a chill from the near miss, warned Wang Qiang, "Brother, be careful. If this kind of danger happens again, we could really lose our lives."

Wang Qiang was too embarrassed to speak further, focusing all his attention on dealing with the zombies' assault outside.

As the creator of this tactic, Tang Xiaoquan was acutely aware of its pros and cons.

No doubt, this was a race against time and strength. This is why he didn't take on the role of holding the door, because he knew that physical strength was never his strong suit. Assigning such a life-or-death task to Wang Qiang and Old Zhao was undoubtedly safer and more reliable than he himself doing it.

But even so, depending solely on Wang and Zhao's strength was not enough to hold out for long. After all, human strength is ultimately limited, so he had to hurry and transport supplies, carrying the maximum possible amount in the shortest time before leaving this place.

Wang Qiang felt like his chest was about to burst. The Runner's relentless assault made him almost unable to hold on. Sweat dripped from his forehead, and his toes, pressed hard against the ground, seemed about to burst out of his shoes.

Compared to everyone's desperate situation, only a minute had slowly passed, which speaks to the intensity of the battle.

It seemed that seeking any safety in this post-apocalyptic world was incredibly difficult, Zhao Yunhai thought to himself with a hint of self-mockery. His situation was no better, though the zombies, due to their blind instincts, mainly chose Wang Qiang's side as the breakthrough point, making his side slightly easier.

After quickly transporting two barrels of oil, Tang Xiaoquan also realized the flaw in his plan, but there was nothing he could do now, and it seemed they had to leave early.

Looking at the room full of supplies, Tang Xiaoquan seemed a bit unwilling, and just as he was about to decide to call everyone to board the car and leave, Old Zhao suddenly shouted, "Quick, Xiaoquan, get the red rubber hose from the shelf for me."

"What? The red rubber hose, this one?" Bewildered, Tang Xiaoquan instinctively pointed to the location Old Zhao mentioned.

"Yes, that's it. Now tie it to the shelf."

Tang Xiaoquan followed the instructions.

"Good, give me the other end."

Tang Xiaoquan followed the instruction again. Upon receiving the other end of the hose, Old Zhao threaded it through the car's handle and then slowly moved aside.

"Bang bang!" The resistance Old Zhao was providing was now replaced by a makeshift barricade formed by the embedded shelf and the car body. The zombies' immense force was evenly distributed at various contact points on the wall and the car body, thus temporarily solving the imminent crisis.

Old Zhao wiped the sweat from his forehead, leaned against the shelf panting heavily, indicating how strenuous the struggle with the zombies had been.

"Old Zhao, what a clever idea!" Tang Xiaoquan was overjoyed. Just a minute ago, he was considering leaving immediately, but Old Zhao's ingenious solution erased that thought.

Old Zhao gave a wry smile, clearly still catching his breath.

Wang Qiang, catching a glimpse of Old Zhao's earlier action, was thinking he could finally catch a break. But to his dismay, after Tang and Zhao completed the task, they started chatting and resting, entirely forgetting he was still struggling.

He wanted to remind them to help solve his door issue, but the continuous zombie assault left him no chance to speak. He was holding on with sheer willpower, and if he relaxed his grip, there's a good chance the door would give way.

No, he must let Tang and Zhao know he was out of strength.

Immediately, Wang Qiang gritted his teeth, quickly turned 180 degrees, slammed his back against the van door, and firmly planted his feet on the ground.

The commotion he caused finally caught Tang Xiaoquan and Zhao Yunhai's attention. Seeing their gazes on him, Wang Qiang replied weakly, "I... I'm... done here. Stop... just standing there, hurry, I'm... not gonna make it."

Smacking his forehead, Tang Xiaoquan ran over, chastising himself for being so happy he forgot about his brother.

With Tang Xiaoquan's help, Wang Qiang felt a lot less pressure, allowing him to muster some strength to shout, "Damn it, you're killing me here. If I hadn't held on, we'd be done for by now."

Silently, Old Zhao secured the left car door to the shelf in the same manner, then signaled Tang Xiaoquan to leave slowly. Ensuring the car door wouldn't be breached by zombies, he instructed, "Alright, Qiang, take a rest. Xiao Tang, let's hurry and transport the supplies."

"Okay!"

No matter the method, once you're outdoors, you must never let your guard down, because zombies can always use their numbers to block you in a confined space.

The survivors wasted no more words, with Old Zhao and Tang Xiaoquan quickly loading supplies into the van. To save time, they threw everything into the van except for essential items like oil drums.

After catching his breath, Wang Qiang also joined in transporting the supplies.

Thus, the three collaborated, significantly speeding up the process.

However, as fast as they were, the zombies were no slower.

As more commotion came from outside the shop, more zombies began gathering in that direction.

After tossing another stack of wire coils into the van, Tang Xiaoquan noticed the increasing number of zombies in front of the vehicle. He realized resolutely that it was time to retreat. Otherwise, if the zombie blockade solidified, even the power of the Jianghuai vehicle might not be enough to break through the thick wall of corpses. (To be continued.
