Chapter 325 - deserves peace
325
~Damon’s POV
I returned from the torture room. The corridors of the palace were silent, too silent. The moonlight poured in through the tall windows, cutting pale silver lines across the floor as I walked back toward Kael and Rowan’s room.
When I pushed the door open, both my brothers were there, sitting quietly. No one said anything. Kael was staring into the fire, lost in thought, while Rowan had his arms crossed, his face tight with exhaustion. The air between us was heavy, like we were all carrying something we couldn’t drop.
I slumped into the chair near the table, exhaling sharply. For a long time, the only sound in the room was the fire crackling. Then, suddenly, the door creaked open.
A guard stepped in, bowing quickly. "Your Majesties," he said breathlessly. "Alpha Lorne from Rivermoon Pack is here to see you. He says it’s about Lady Lisa."
The moment I heard her name, my heart jumped. I was on my feet before I could think. Rowan’s head snapped up, and Kael turned sharply toward the guard.
"About Lisa?" I asked, my voice coming out rough.
"Yes, Alpha."
"Send him to the study room," I said, already moving toward the door.
Alpha Lorne entered with a deep bow. He looked a bit nervous, probably because he knew how much that name meant to me.
"Speak," I said.
He cleared his throat. "My guard reported seeing Lady Lisa tonight. She was spotted inside Thorne’s palace."
For a second, I froze. I wasn’t sure I heard him right. "Thorne’s palace?"
He nodded firmly. "Yes, Alpha. I made sure to confirm it before coming here."
My chest tightened. "Are you sure of what you’re saying?"
"Yes, Alpha Damon. There’s no mistake."
I stepped closer to him, my heart racing. "Thank you. You’ve done well."
He bowed again and took his leave. The moment the door closed behind him, I retuned back to my brothers.
"I found her," I said quickly. "Lisa’s in Thorne’s palace."
Rowan’s eyes widened, and Kael rose to his feet. "Are you sure?" Kael asked.
"Yes. Lorne confirmed it."
Rowan let out a small breath, rubbing his face. "Finally," he muttered, relief washing over his tone.
Kael gave a small nod. "But Damon, you know it won’t be easy. Thorne won’t just hand her over."
"I know," I said, my jaw tightening. "But I don’t care how difficult it is. I’m bringing her back."
They exchanged glances, hopeful, yet worried.
That night, none of us could sleep. I lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, my thoughts filled with her face, her laugh, the softness of her voice, the way she used to look at me before everything fell apart. I had so much to say to her, but I didn’t know if she’d even want to hear it. Still, I had to try.
By dawn, I was already up. I dressed quickly, pulling on my cloak and boots. Rowan and Kael were waiting in the hall when I stepped out. They looked so weak and pale.
"You’re really going?" Rowan asked.
"Yes," I said firmly. "With or without permission."
Kael smiled faintly. "Then go bring her home."
I nodded and left with two of my guards, heading straight for Thorne’s palace.
When we got there, the guards at the gate blocked my path.
"I’m Alpha Damon," I said sternly. "I came to see Lady Lisa."
They hesitated, then one of them left to inform someone inside. After a few tense minutes, he returned.
"Alpha," he said carefully, "Lady Lisa says... she doesn’t wish to see you."
For a moment, I couldn’t move. The words hit me harder than any blow I’d taken on the battlefield.
"She said that?" I asked quietly.
"Yes, Alpha."
I looked down, nodding slowly. My chest ached, but I refused to leave. I couldn’t, not without seeing her.
"Fine," I said. "Then I’ll wait."
The guards exchanged glances but didn’t stop me. I stepped aside, staying where I could watch the palace gates.
Hours passed. Then, by chance, I saw her.
Lisa came out, walking beside Thorne and an older woman.
My breath caught instantly. Even from afar, I felt it, that pull. That same magnetic pull she’d always had on me. But this time, it was different. Stronger. Heavier. Her steps were slow, graceful, but there was something divine in the way she carried herself. She didn’t look like the woman I used to know. She looked... ethereal.
The soft morning light touched her face, and it was like the world itself bowed to her presence. The wind seemed to move around her gently, as if afraid to disturb her peace. Her hair flowed freely down her back, shimmering under the sun, and the faint golden aura surrounding her made my chest tighten.
There was a serenity in her that I couldn’t understand. A quiet power. She didn’t look broken anymore, not the fragile, trembling Lisa who once clung to me for strength. She had become something else entirely. Something magnificent.
Thorne walked beside her, talking quietly, but my eyes never left her. Every movement she made radiated confidence, grace, and warmth. It was as if the earth itself responded to her, the grass swayed where she walked, and the air around her hummed faintly, like it was alive.
I could feel it even from where I stood, the energy, the aura, the unmistakable force that surrounded her. She had changed. Completely. The girl I had known was gone.
I followed them quietly, keeping my distance. They walked through the woods until they reached what looked like a tomb. I stayed behind the trees, watching as they bowed their heads. I wondered whose tomb it was, perhaps someone dear to her.
Then suddenly, I felt a presence behind me.
"You must be Damon," a voice said softly.
I turned sharply, it was the same old woman who had been with them. Her eyes glowed faintly, filled with something ancient and knowing.
"Yes," I said cautiously. "Who are you?"
"My name is Lira," she said calmly. "Lisa’s guide."
"Guide?" I echoed, confused. "What do you mean?"
She tilted her head slightly. "You wouldn’t understand. But tell me, why are you standing here like a coward, hiding behind trees instead of facing her?"
Her words cut deep. I clenched my fists. "Because I hurt her," I said quietly. "My brothers and I... we broke her in ways we can’t take back."
Lira studied me for a moment, her expression softening slightly.
"She deserves peace," I added. "Even if it means she never wants to see us again."
Silence stretched between us for a few seconds. Then I pulled out a folded paper from my coat and handed it to her.
"Please," I said. "Give this to her for me."
She looked down at it, then back at me. "What’s written in it?"
"Everything I couldn’t say," I whispered.
Lira nodded slowly, taking the paper from my hand. "I’ll make sure she gets it."
"Thank you," I said, stepping back.
