Chapter 76. Emma Chooses A Name.
Anyways , the merchant counted out the coins and handed them over to Ray.
"How exactly did you do it? I heard Wyverns were way above level 10 and 12, yet a young man like you easily took out that beast on your own. What’s the secret to capturing and slaying such beast?" The merchant asked in whispers as he leaned closer to Ray.
Ray smiled and replied. "By tightening my ass and hardening my balls, that’s how."
Hearing this, Marcus laughed heartily before smacking Ray at the back gently while saying ’Yep, that’s Ray for ya. Kid’s got balls of steel."
He cackled once again and the merchant couldn’t help but laugh as well. "Hahahaha.... Fair enough, kid. If you ever get more Wyvern parts, you come find me and I’ll pay good rates, okay?"
Ray nodded before excusing himself from the two gentlemen.
Later that day, Ray returned home to find the eggs had grown even more than last week.
Every evening, Ray fed the eggs his Wyvern energy and it had become a routine activity for him now.
It had become something his body wanted to do, just as much as the eggs needed him to do it.
The warmth of his wyvern energy would usually flow from his chest, through his hands, and into the shell of the eggs, allowing them to grow larger.
Each egg was roughly the size of a small barrel now and the shells looked visibly strained by the Wyverns growing inside of them.
The obsidian colored scales of the eggs that covered their surfaces were now cracked almost everywhere, leaving behind deep fractures that spreads across the entire shell, causing pieces to occasionally fall off to reveal the membrane underneath.
The heartbeat of the eggs were now loud enough for anyone to hear without touching them.
The sounds were loud and completely steady, indicating that the eggs were truly nearing their hatching stage.
Looking at the eggs, Ray assumed the eggs would only hatch once all the cracks on the surface had completely spread from the bottom of the egg to meet up at the tip of the eggs.
He wasn’t certain if this would be the case, but a part of him knew that would be how the eggs would definitely hatch.
Meanwhile, Emma had been spending hours everyday with the egg recently...
Right now, she was simply sitting next to them, staring, hoping and waiting for the eggs to hatch.
She had stopped asking Ray when the eggs could be touched or when they would most likely be hatching because she could clearly see for herself now that it wouldn’t be more than a day before the eggs hatched.
Right now, the little girl was sitting three feet away from the eggs, talking to them as she usually does.
She wasn’t really talking about anything important in particular.
She was simply talking about how her day had been and what had happened in the village the day before, along with whatever crossed her mind.
Recently, the eggs were responding to her voice and they began to glow whenever she had entered Ray’s room.
It felt exactly the same to how they reacted whenever Ray stepped into his room.
"Having fun?" Ray asked teasingly as he stepped into his room.
"Mm,mm..." Emma nodded as she watched her brother stepped into his room.
"I feel they’ll hatch tonight or maybe tomorrow." Emma said as she stared at the eggs.
"Yeah, I think so too."
"Um, big brother?"
"Mm?"
"When the time comes and the two eggs hatch, can I have this one?" Emma pointed at the slightly bigger egg.
Though both eggs were roughly around the same size, however, one was taller than the other by only a few inches.
"Why do you want that one? Is it because it’s big?" Ray asked..
"Not really. I like her because she responds to me whenever I talk to her."
"Huh? She? What makes you think she’s a female?"
"I don’t know but she likes glowing to my words whenever I talk to her, and besides I asked her if she wanted to be my little sister and best friend yesterday, and she glowed really bright. You should have seen it big brother. It was amazing."
Ray’s brows knitted as he sat on his bed, listening to what his sister was saying. "What about the other egg. Didn’t it react to your question too?"
"No, he didn’t, so I’m guessing he’s a boy "
Ray smiled and simply plopped down on his bed, staring at the ceiling. "Alright, Chipmunk. She’s all yours if you want her."
"Yay!!" Emma’s face lit up as she turned around to face Ray. "I’ve been thinking of a really cool name for her and I feel I’ve finally found the right one."
"Alright, let’s hear it."
"Ember. I’m going to call her Ember."
"Oh really, and why that name?"
"Because her glow is orange like a fire burning, so I want to call her Ember."
Ray smiled as he realized he had noticed the same thing as well.
Since two days ago, Ray had noticed how both eggs had developed distinctive glows whenever they had sensed his arrival.
He hadn’t really thought much about it, but after hearing the name Emma gave her egg, Ray couldn’t help but began thinking of a few names that would be perfect for the colored glowing he had noticed in the other egg too.
"I like the name Ember."
"Really?"
"Yeah. It’s a really good name and I’m sure she’ll....." Ray paused mid-sentence when he noticed the bigger Wyvern egg glowing to the sound of her new name.
"Big brother look, I think she likes her name."
"That means your little Wyvern has accepted the name you gave her." Ray patted her head gently and Emma giggled cutely.
"Hehehehe~ I’m glad you like your new name Ember. Don’t worry, I promise to take good care of you from now on."
The little girl vowed as she began talking to the eggs once again while Ray resumed on coming up with a cool name for his own wyvern.
But after a while, Ray decided to put it to a pause as he focused on giving the eggs their evening meal.
Emma watched as well and the two sat together in the quiet room, talking and watching the eggs.
