Reborn with My Genius Husband

Chapter 201: If You Assume Again, We’ll Settle It at Home

Chapter 201: If You Assume Again, We’ll Settle It at Home

"Could it be a misunderstanding?"

Holly Winslow had a feeling Chris Chaucer wasn’t that kind of guy; he just didn’t seem like the type.

But Iris Kensington only trusted what she had seen. "I saw it with my own eyes, Holly. I’m breaking up with him."

"Where are you? I’ll come find you."

Holly Winslow was worried something might happen to her all alone in another city. Luckily, B-City was close to Yarrow City, only a two or three-hour flight away.

Iris Kensington sniffled. "I’m at the airport. My flight is at 2:50."

"Holly, let’s go to karaoke today. Get Anna to come along, too."

"I need to vent, and then I’m going back to beat the crap out of Chris Chaucer and break up with him."

Hearing this, Holly Winslow didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. In the end, she nodded. "Okay. Don’t wander off after you land. We’ll come pick you up. And stop crying."

"Holly, don’t you bring—"

Before Iris Kensington could finish, Holly Winslow cut in, "I won’t bring Mortimer Quincy. Just the three of us."

Holly Winslow sent Mortimer Quincy a text and headed for the school gate.

Mortimer Quincy read the text and felt a headache coming on. This was the prelude to an argument.

Anna Willow was out shopping with her roommate when she got Holly Winslow’s call. After hearing what happened with Iris Kensington, she immediately said she’d grab a cab.

...

It was already past five o’clock when Anna Willow and Holly Winslow picked up Iris Kensington. Iris hugged both of them and sat on an airport bench, crying pitifully for half an hour.

After leaving the airport, the three of them first went for a huge meal, then headed to a karaoke bar. Iris Kensington monopolized the microphone, holding two of them at once while screeching and wailing.

"If we’re breaking up, then let’s just break up..."

"When Love is a Thing of the Past..."

"AHH!! Chris Chaucer, you big bastard!"

Holly Winslow and Anna Willow kept wiggling their fingers in their ears. They exchanged a look, silently urging the other to go snatch the microphones from Iris Kensington.

But neither of them moved, fearing for their lives.

The attendant must have heard Iris Kensington’s screeching from outside, because he came in a few times to politely ask if they needed help turning the volume down a bit.

Iris Kensington flatly refused.

Apparently, wailing by herself wasn’t enough. Iris Kensington turned her attention to Holly Winslow and Anna Willow. "Holly, Anna, come on, curse with me! Chris Chaucer is a huge bastard!"

She boldly shoved a microphone toward them, staring intently as she gestured for them to start cursing.

Anna Willow and Holly Winslow: "..."

Pressured by this "dark power," the two of them squeaked out in mosquito-like whispers, "...is a huge bastard."

"Louder! Like this: Chris Chaucer is a huge bastard!"

Iris Kensington demonstrated again into the microphone, and Anna Willow and Holly Winslow both flinched.

Seeing they were too scared, Iris Kensington started to cry. Holly Winslow and Anna Willow hurriedly shouted, "Chris Chaucer is a huge bastard!"

Iris Kensington sniffled in satisfaction and taught them another line. "And a son of a bitch."

Holly Winslow and Anna Willow chanted in unison, "Son of a bitch."

"Say his name."

"Chris Chaucer is a son of a bitch."

"Chris Chaucer is a huge bastard! Chris Chaucer is a son of a bitch!"

...

When they left the karaoke bar, it was already past ten. A cold wind hit them, and all three shivered, then hugged each other tightly for warmth.

The three of them suddenly looked at each other and smiled. Iris Kensington kissed them and said sweetly, "Holly, Anna, you guys are the best."

Holly Winslow rubbed her hands together and tilted her head up slightly. "They don’t call us the Three Invincible Golden Flowers for nothing."

Anna Willow scoffed, "Who needs men? We’re true love, hahahaha."

The three of them found a hotel and checked in. Only then did they turn their phones back on. All three were flooded with missed calls.

The callers were mostly the same: Chris Chaucer, Brian Willow, Mortimer Quincy, and Zeke Zane.

Just then, Iris Kensington’s phone rang. It was Chris Chaucer. Iris felt she had composed herself enough to tell him they were breaking up in a firm, scornful tone.

She answered, but before she could speak, Chris Chaucer said from the other end, "Ellie, where are you? Are Holly and Anna with you?"

Iris Kensington said, trying to sound tough, "None of your business. Chris Chaucer, let’s break up."

"Ellie, listen to me. I was out buying you a present and just happened to run into a girl from our class. We only exchanged a few words."

Chris Chaucer explained anxiously, then asked again, "Ellie, are you with Holly and the others?"

Iris Kensington pouted. "I’m not listening to your explanation."

"I’m with Holly and the others right now."

Hearing that last sentence, Holly Winslow and Anna Willow knew the breakup was about to be called off.

Chris Chaucer breathed a sigh of relief. "Good girl. Wait for me, I’ll come pick you up."

Iris Kensington mumbled an "mhm."

Anna Willow and Holly Winslow: "..."

’Where did all that bravado from the karaoke room go?’

Chris Chaucer was already in B-City; he just hadn’t known where they were. A few minutes past eleven, he arrived to pick up Iris Kensington.

Holly Winslow and Anna Willow tactfully took their leave and got a new room.

「Friday Morning.」

Mortimer Quincy didn’t have classes, so he was reading in his dorm room. His roommates were already up and playing video games.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. The guy whose bed was closest reached out and opened it.

It was Zeke Zane. After a quick "thanks," he flopped down dejectedly next to Mortimer Quincy and said listlessly, "Mortimer, did you and your girlfriend have a fight?"

Mortimer raised an eyebrow and said nonchalantly, "No."

Zeke Zane: "..."

He asked, "If your girlfriend asked you, ’I saw you with another girl,’ what would you do?"

"How would you answer?"

Mortimer said casually, "What’s that got to do with me?"

Zeke Zane: "..."

His mouth worked for a moment before he said, "Anna and I got into a fight."

"I was eating some instant noodles when she asked me. I was about to answer right after I swallowed, but then she said I... *cough*... she just got angry."

Mortimer raised an eyebrow, voicing the words Zeke had held back. "Called you a scumbag?"

Zeke Zane: "..."

’Damn, do all the top students know how to read minds now?’

Suddenly, his phone alarm went off. Mortimer reached over to turn it off, closed his book, and said, "I’m heading out. Take your time."

Zeke Zane: "..."

’He was feeling a little down today and wanted to find something to do.’ "Where are you headed? I’ll come with."

"To walk my girlfriend to class," Mortimer said matter-of-factly.

Zeke Zane: "..."

’He must’ve been out of his mind to ask!’

...

Holly Winslow went downstairs with Serena Shaw and their other dorm mates. Just as they stepped outside, Serena Shaw nudged her arm. "Holly, your hubby’s here."

Holly Winslow: "..."

Mortimer Quincy walked over, took her books, and handed her the breakfast he was holding. "Eat up."

"Have you eaten?"

Holly Winslow giggled and took it, opening the paper bag to take a bite.

Mortimer nodded.

After a dozen or so steps, Holly Winslow thought of something. "Mortimer, what if—"

"No ’what-ifs,’" Mortimer cut her off.

Holly Winslow: "..."

’I haven’t even started talking and he already knows!’

She glared at him, annoyed. "I haven’t even finished! You’re getting so impatient with me these days."

An innocent Mortimer Quincy: "..."

He reached up and patted her head. "Honey, you’re so beautiful."

Holly Winslow: "..."

She huffed, then pointed to her outfit. "My hubby bought this for me. Bet you’re jealous."

She paused for a second. ’This rascal is trying to change the subject.’ She spoke again, "Don’t try to change the subject. What if—Mmph."

Mortimer Quincy kissed her. "If you say ’what if’ one more time, we’re skipping class and going home to ’settle’ it."

Holly Winslow: "..."

And that successfully ended the conversation.
