Chapter 144 144: Ch 144: Hard time
"Humans are such fascinating and boring creatures, right? I will never understand why the system chose to come here. It's not like humans have a lot of power beyond what the system gives them."
The god asked as she settled beside the puppet and looked at the screen in front of her. On the screen stood various humans, all having different kinds of creatures standing in front of them.
But there were too many screens to keep track of, so the god decided not to watch most of them and focus on a selected few she found interesting.
"Who knows what the system is thinking? We are only here to follow its orders so that we don't perish."
The puppet reminded the god while keeping an eye on Andrew.
She wanted to see if the human would die or not, because if he did, then she would be freed from the contract and would no longer have to oblige it. But at the same time, she also felt a hint of annoyance at that idea.
"Hmm, you are right. It is tough to predict what the system is thinking. But personally, I have a feeling that there is more happening behind the scenes than simply the system's will. Don't you feel the same?"
The god asked the puppet, and usually, the puppet would have disregarded her concerns and told her that she was mistaken.
But this time, the puppet hesitated to say this. And the main reason behind her hesitation was her gut feeling.
"You mean… someone is trying to influence the system?"
The puppet asked in a quiet voice, and the god just shrugged.
"Who knows? Maybe that's the case, maybe that's not. It is hard for me to say at this point. But one thing is for sure-the system is unstable right now, so we need to be careful."
The god reminded the puppet, and the puppet nodded.
She knew that the system was unstable. And that was why she decided that it would be the best time to honor her promise soon.

[Everyone, welcome our current guest-the current no#2 player on Earth, Mark Dawnson. You can show your appreciation for him by cheering him on.]
There was a deafening noise around Andrew as everyone clapped. It did not feel normal, and he felt some kind of force grabbing control of him.
[You have entered the game show. The audience's response will become your power. Please attract more attention toward yourself to gain more power.]
The system explained, and the host quickly took control back.
"Everyone, since we are here, I would like to begin our next game-Game 13. It's the game show you had all been waiting for all this time. Now, I would like to go over the rules of the game quickly."
The host spoke, and the system chimed in once more.
[Game 13-Host Show.]
[You will participate in a series of challenges prepared by your host. Participate in them and maintain an audience score of over 60%.]
[Duration of the game show: 4 hours.]
It sounded like a simple game, but Andrew knew that the simple-sounding games often turned out to be the most difficult of them all.
"Enough talking around. It's time to start the show."
The host came back, and Andrew's feet moved to make him sit on a soft sofa. He did not fight it at the moment because he was under the system's control.
"Then, let's start. The first round will be the audience's choice. Are you ready, human?"
Andrew looked at the host and then at the screen in front of him. He was ready to participate in this game.
The screen blanked for a moment, and the world turned black. There was some kind of code running all around the room, and Andrew immediately broke his restraints and got to his feet.
"Did something… happen?"
He questioned as he tried to light the space he was in using his own power. But there was no response from the system when he tried to use his powers.
"Huh… is there a glitch?"
He questioned as he tried to reach his powers once more, but he was not able to. It felt like his limbs were glued to the seat he was on.
Slowly, the light came back on, and the host looked at Andrew as if nothing had happened.
"I apologize for the system failure. But the system has rebooted itself now and is ready to participate in the new game. I hope you all are ready for the next round."
The host spoke in the same carefree tone as before, but Andrew could not help but feel like something had changed.
"Now, without further delay, let's begin our first game-the endurance test. Please last in the pit for as long as possible."
The host told Andrew, and he had seconds to brace himself before he was dropped into a pit. It was completely dark, and his eyes did not pick up anything around him.
But he did hear the sound of footsteps running toward him, and Andrew braced himself. He was not sure what was going to happen next, but he was ready to take care of it.
'Shield.'
Andrew deployed his shield at the right time before he got hit, and the impact hurt. He braced himself and took the hit head-on.
Whatever was hitting him took a step back before rushing at him from the other side. Andrew wanted to use his ability to check what it was, but his main focus was on maintaining and recasting his shield.
'Tsk, I need to counterattack if I want to survive. But how do I do that without getting hurt too badly?'
He asked himself as another attack almost knocked him over. But he held on and decided to try and form a shield around the other creature attacking him.
The sudden casting of the light spell blinded the creature attacking Andrew, and he had enough time to cast a shield around it and crush it before it could attack Andrew again.
