Chapter 142 142: Ch 142: Take the Hybrids back - Part 2

"This is where the tracks end… but there is a force field around this area, and I can't enter. What should we do now?"

Tracker asked Monkey King as they tried their best to track down the runaway hybrids.

So far, there was no way to know how these creatures had managed to get away from their cages, but it had caused a huge panic. There was even a 'kill-on-sight' order that Monkey King did not want to follow.

But to do that, he needed to find those cat-like creatures first and convince them to come back home without being seen.

Tracker was someone who had exceptional skills in this field, and that was how they had come to the Dawnson estate…

And that was where the trouble began.

'I doubt Thief would be happy to know where those hybrids ran off to. But I cannot just not report it back either…'

With a heavy heart, Monkey King typed his message to Thief before he pressed his hand against the barrier and tried to enter it.

He knew that this would alert Mark Dawnson and the others, and they would come running. He might even lose a limb or his life because of his actions.

But going back now would mean a certain death by Queen's hands.

So, it was clear that this was the better option between the two.

__________

[Monkey King and an 'unknown' have entered your territory.]

The instant message came with Andrew's base map popping up on his screen. He watched as the two dots walked around carefully and headed in his direction.

He pushed himself away from the tree and straightened his back before he started walking away.

"Andrew, where are you going?"

Lilianna asked, her eyes looking at him from not too far away. She had pushed herself away from the tree to follow him out as well, and Andrew allowed her to follow him.

"Some familiar rats have managed to sneak into our base for some reason. I am just going to go and have a small 'talk' with them. Do you want to come with me?"

Andrew asked Lilianna, and she nodded and followed after him.

They reached the place where the intruders were quickly, and Monkey King immediately raised his hands up, showing that it was not his fault that this was all happening.

"Mark, Sir… before you attack me, please allow me to tell you that none of this is my fault or my free will. I am here because Thief sent me to do something."

He spoke quickly and proclaimed his innocence.

Tracker looked at Monkey King with a blank look on his face before he quickly dodged the gunfire from Lilianna.

"So, what brought you both here? I am sure you must have a good reason for it."

Andrew asked the pair without batting an eye at Lilianna's actions.

"Tsk, why do you care-"

"We were just trying to track some experiments that ran away from our labs. Thief wants them back. But if you have them… then I guess I can go and inform Thief that there is nothing we can do about it…"

Monkey King was a quick thinker, so he was able to analyze the situation, come to a conclusion regarding what happened, and make a decision.

He could tell that Tracker was not happy with his decision, but Monkey King quickly made him bow his head before he could protest.

"I see… so those poor hybrids were your fault after all. Tsk, what were you all thinking?"

Lilianna asked in an angry voice. Monkey King tried to bow even deeper when he heard her angry voice, and he instantly apologized for it.

"I am sorry. I do not know what Thief and the others are planning. They don't like to share much about their work. Not that I can say I care about it either."

Monkey King confessed. As long as he had a roof over his head and food to eat, what else did he need? These things were all luxuries in the current times anyway…

"I see. I have no intention of handing over those hybrids back to you or Thief. We have signed a contract, so they are a part of our workforce now. You can try taking them by force if you want to."

Andrew told Monkey King, and he watched the man flinch.

"I see. I guess there really is not anything we can do about it. I will go and tell Thief the-"

"Wait a second. Are we just going to go back like this? This does not sit well with me. We need to at least try and follow Thief's orders-"

Tracker turned to Andrew, but he quickly ignored him and tried to go for Lilianna. He likely thought that she was the easier target because she was a female and short.

But Lilianna was thoroughly trained at this point, and because Tracker had underestimated her and not used any power on her, she was able to grab his arm and twist it around.

Everyone watched in stunned silence as Tracker was thrown around by Lilianna, and she looked proud of herself.

"Tsk, don't you dare underestimate me like this again."

She spoke, her voice proud and clear. She looked at Monkey, who stood still in front of her, and Monkey King finally moved and grabbed his unconscious partner.

"We should head back now. We have spent a lot more time here than we needed to. Don't worry. I will send your message to Thief, and he will contact you soon."

Monkey King ran away quickly. He did not want what happened to Tracker to happen to him as well.

"You have gotten better at self-defense. It seems that all the training and fieldwork have served you well."

Andrew told Lilianna with a proud look on his face. And even Lilianna felt a little satisfied with her progress.

She had not noticed this until now, but that was because she was surrounded by people who were much better than her currently. But in reality, she had made a lot of progress in her own way, and she felt accomplished.
