Chapter 96: Homeroom [1]
Chapter 96: Homeroom [1]
Vergil began walking down the stone pathway that curved through the heart of the school campus. The notice of the homerooms came at around 12.00 PM, an hour after the ceremony.
The sun had already reached its peak, as Vergil began admiring the scenery with a slow stride.
He would briefly pause to admire the architecture and design of the buildings and the garden outside, gazing at the four towers surrounding the campus and the bridges connecting over the four areas. The wind tugged at his body gently, carrying a pleasant smell with it.
Those four towers, Ray told me about it when we were celebrating.
There was one located in each of the corners. Each one representing a different pathway or rather energy type. One for Cultivation, Magic, Divine and Aura.
Didn’t he also mention something about their uniqueness... I can’t remember.
He walked. And walked. Twenty minutes later, he was still walking.
[Admit it, you’re a lost cause.] The system chimed in amusement. [Or are you doing this for another reason?]
Vergil exhaled with a smirk. ’I could’ve just asked the staff but I wanted to kill some time.’
[And why is that? This isn’t like you.]
Vergil slid his hands into his pockets. "Lazy." He muttered.
[There’s more to it than that.]
"... you got me," Vergil admitted. "I’ve worked so hard to the point I was isolated. So I’m going to be more normal instead of so hardworking."
"Of course, that only comes to studies," Vergil smirked.
[I get you.]
He continued walking, eyes following a flock of birds soaring on the horizon.
"After all," he muttered quietly. "We have two purposes to achieve here. Don’t we?"
Eventually, after a relaxing walk, he decided to finally make his way. "I wonder who’s around."
He approached a robed staff member, standing beneath one of the directional banners.
"Excuse me. I’m looking for H121?"
"You’re very late," the man sighed. "Anyways, straight from here, you’ll see the main building and it’s the third door to the right."
Vergil followed the directions, making his way toward the large building. The campus was humongous to say the least. He watched as other students entered into their respective classrooms, though some gave weird stares.
Whatever.
"H121. H121. Here it is."
He arrived at the door labelled H121. It wasn’t anything ornate or extravagant..a simple inscribed placard on the door.
Pushing it open, the room was modest compared to the academy standards, but carried a different purpose. On the right of him, was a single chalkboard and a stand resembling the podium from the dome.
To the left resembled the same layout of seats for the students, mimicking a university classroom.
From what Vergil could tell, there were already close to a hundred students. Whispering quietly watching him.
"The one who made the principal bend the rules."
"I don’t get what they see in him."
His infamy had already spread, but he didn’t care about that.
Since there are 2501 students, would that mean there’s at least 25 classes?
Before he could think anymore, a sharp voice rang from the front.
"You’re late."
Vergil’s eyes locked onto the speaker.
Rael.
Although he wasn’t in the same attire, his unique looks made him practically unforgettable.
Yet he flinched at his appearance, taken aback by how he was dressed.
This time, instead of wearing his more casual clothes, it now matched the formal green instructor coat, trimmed with golden lines.
I doubt he would dress properly.
[What happened to judging.]
’Sorry, but the situation called for it.’
[Im sure he hates his uniform.]
’I agree with you there.’
Rael scanned Vergil from head to toe, his lips tugged down in a frown.
"You’re not in uniform."
Vergil paused. Shrugging his words off. "No one told me to wear one."
"Its just common sense," Rael replied coldly. ’When you attend one of the most prestigious academies in the world, you must wear the uniform provided to you."
Vergil didn’t respond. It was meaningless to instigate it any further. Though the room had a different opinion.
"Is he finally showing his scales," someone muttered.
"Just find a seat," Rael sighed. "We’re already late on the clock.
Rael sighed. "Just find a seat. We’re already behind."
Vergil scanned the room. All the seats had been taken already by other students in the front and back row. He moved towards the middle, where a single seat remained.
It was beside a girl he recognised immediately.
She sat quietly with a composed posture, arms folded lightly. Her features weren’t easy to miss. Soft cream hair and violet eyes that stared ahead.
Yet Vergil had a shiver, as if she was aware of every move he made.
Yuna Lunaris, the 8th ranked student.
One thing Vergil knew was that each of the top ranked student, had something distinct about them.
Although he didn’t know what it was. One day he would find out.
He sat down without a word. There was no need to introduce himself. She’d seen him. Basically everyone had.
And nobody would forget the student ranked led 2501.
Rael cleared his throat, assessing the class with a formal tone.
"Welcome to your homeroom. H201, remember it, you will be spending the next two years here. Im Rael, your homeroom instructor that will be here with you during your stay.
He scanned the room once more, his formal tone shifted to a more stern and grounded voice.
"There’s no classes today, but we will begin with your paths. Your main focus on what you will be studying."
He reached behind his desk, pulling out a stack of papers and pens.
"Each of you will handed a form. These contained the primary pathways within Vaeloria. Magic, aura, cultivation, divine arts. Mark your alignment, and what you intend to specialise in some of you may not know yet but you need to begin now."
"And one more thing. You can pick additional pathways but do be warned. Not everyone is talented in everything."
He passed the sheets down row by row. Before long, Vergil had one, slowing reaching for it.
He scanned it, looking at all the options.
’Body cultivator, sword cultivator, spear, fist, dual-path options...’ His eyes moved over to the magic section. ’Mage types... fire, ice, gravity, illusion, etc. Space magic, and time?.’
Then came Aura. Then Divine Energy.
A note sat under that section:
Divine Energy specialization is available only to those formally recognized by the Church of Aurelia. All claims are verified. False claims will be punished.
Aurelia. ’Mother.’ Please wait. Soon, I’ll send them all to you when I’m ready.
He narrowed his eyes.
Divine energy was especially forbidden for him. He would only reveal what was necessary, otherwise, it would get dangerous.
The last thing he needed was those white knights chasing him for his head.
I wasn’t going to choose it anyway, but it does limit my options.
There was one question Vergil needed to answer.
What pathway would be most beneficial in both the long run and to get him into the top ten?
He thought in silence. Before coming to a solution.
Body Cultivator and Mage.
Why?
The lowest form and the highest peak had infinite potential to be applied in combat. But only if he had a teacher for martial arts. And for cultivation, his talent for energy control was monstrous.
He wasn’t bragging. It was the reality. If other people had both demon and angel energy then he would have heard of them by now.
’What do you think, system.’
[I think your learning. You’re becoming independent.]
Vergil chuckled under his breath. ’I don’t like how you worded that, but I agree.’
He checked the boxes quietly. Body Cultivator. Magician – Attribute: Fire.
Then he glanced sideways, subtly, tilting his head towards Yuna.
She sat beside him, but hadn’t moved or marked anything yet.
she probably knows what path she wants. Probably just taking a look at the others.
And curiosity got the better of him.
He leaned slightly to the side, keeping his voice low.
"What are you picking?" He said with a casual tone.
