Rebirth-Transcending All Beings

Chapter 95: Mission Three

Chapter 95: Mission Three

When the final ranking was announced, the headmaster brought the ceremony to a close.

A small orb of mana vibrated at his side, expanding, vibrating with a bright blue hue before fracturing into shards, each one striking off like a star, homing in on everyone who had passed before fading away into the surrounding atmosphere.

"Think of this as a demonstration of some of the things you can achieve in the future," he stroked his beard. "Now head back to your dorms, "Soon, you will be informed of your homeroom. Report there immediately."

"That is all, you can leave." Aldric’s voice echoed one last time through the dome.

Those who passed began to head back to their dorms. Tired. Excited. And most of all relieved. As for those who failed — some stood in silence, others clenching their fists and made their way back to pack up and leave.

However some burst out into protest.

"This is bullshit! I passed the written!"

"This whole system’s rigged!"

"I demand a recount!"

"How did that guy pass!?"

The staff on site, dressed in the academy uniform remained unmoved by their pleas.

"It’s just how it is," one replied in a cold manner.

The staff stepped forward. No violence. Just quiet efficiency, escorting those who failed outside along with their luggage.

Vergil watched in silence, moving out with his friends

Vergil walked ahead, both hands tucked in his pockets, his new academy uniform folded under his arm.

His boots crunched against the gravel path, as he made his way back to the forms with squinted eyes — the golden light from the sun, making it hard for him to see.

Around him the crowd of students chatted and laughed that they were accepted.

Yet a pair of eyes watched him.

Two, in fact.

This silence is killing me. Why are they not saying anything?

’Why are they staring?" He muttered internally, refusing to turn his head.

[After what you pulled at the dome. I would too, you cocky bastard.] The system rang in his head in an ever so amused voice.

Ray and Kael’s eyes practically bore into his back, like walking with ghosts that haunted him.

"So." Ray finally broke the silence. "What in the hell was that all about?"

Kael snickered with a smirk. "Huh, top ten yeah? Seriously. You barely said anything about being strong, let alone at their level."

Vergil kept walking, not slowing down in his tracks, his grip on the edge of his uniform tightened.

"Is it wrong for me to be ambitious? "he asked quietly. "After all, I am an exception."

"I get that your an exception cause of the headmaster," Kael scoffed. "And you’re not wrong for believing that. But you should know restraint."

Vergil finally stopped, turning to face them whilst walking backwards. "I told you, I’m the king of Blowfish." A small smirk formed once more on his face. "My arrogance knows no bounds."

Ray chuckled. "I guess your keeping the title."

"Of course. There is a certain goal, I wish to achieve." Vergil pointed to the sky. "I wish to be—"

He glanced at the sky, seeing a small bird fly across the sky with grace. But above all freedom.

Bang!

His head slammed into a stone wall behind him.

"Gah!" Vergil stumbled back, clutching the back of his head. "What the hell?"

Kael and Ray burst into laughter.

"I knew we got him," Kael grinned before fist-bumping Ray.

"You didn’t think to warn me?" Vergil growled, rubbing his head.

"We were going to," Ray said, barely holding back another chuckle. "But you kept going on and on

"We got bored," Kael added.

"Wait a minute, I want to know what you were going to say," Ray added.

"... I’m not telling anymore,’ Vergil glared before storming off. "You guys are the worst."

The room has been thoroughly cleared by the time, Vergil arrived. Three beds all made, the wardrobe where their clothes were — all neatly hanged or folded. And a single crystal ball that controlled the temperature.

Its hot out here.

Vergil pressed the crystal ball, turning on the air conditioning before storing his uniform in the wardrobe.

Then, he flopped on the middle bed in relief and relaxation. His eyes stared at the ceiling, making out what had just happened.

He had so many questions. Why did the rules change for him? What could they possibly know?

But it didn’t change the fact he was now a student.

The first step is done. Now comes the next part.

Before he could proceed the next part, a blue panel appeared before his eyes.

[Mission 003: Reach Top 10 by the End of the Year]

Reward: Vergil Exclusive Skill

Penalty: 10% permanent reduction in all stats

Note- Analysis can’t be used on other students or teachers at the academy]

He processed the information before bursting out into laughter. "Ha, this is why I love you." Vergil clenched his jaw. "You know how to make this fun!"

[I’m straight, but I know what you mean.]

’I didn’t mean it that way, but what else do you have to say?’ Vergil asked.

[There’s quite a lot of people you know.]

[A lot of them, can use the Confidant System.]

’I figured, there would be.’

[But why would most of them be friends with you?]

Vergil frowned.

[Some are curious. Yuxin. Ray. Maybe a few others.]

’Ray? Out of everyone?’

[Well he definitely is one] The system replied in a smug voice. [It must be hard for little Vergil to make friends.]

’I could say the same about you."

Ray and Kael eventually entered the dorm, both tossing their uniforms onto the bed.

Ray yawned, still sleepy from yesterday night’s events."Vergil, you still mad about earlier?"

Kael added, "Yeah, you only hit a wall. Don’t need to cry about it."

Vergil tilted his head,"Nah," he smirked. "I’ll just get payback another time."

"Don’t do anything weird to me." Ray narrowed his eyes. "That sounds ominous."

Vergil sat up slowly, eyes locking onto Ray. "That reminds me Ray," he said smoothly."

"What?" Ray paused, a shiver ran down his spine.

"About your um, little crush, you don’t mind me ya know."

"Okay, okay I give up, let’s stop there."

"Good boy,"

"Damn it."

Before they could finish chatting, a soft chime echoed in their room, a mana crystal floated in, glowing faintly whilst projecting four lines of blue text.

Vergil Vayne – Homeroom: H121

Ray Alden – Homeroom: H124

Kael Thornmere – Homeroom: H124

Please report to your homerooms within the next hour.

"Huh," Kael muttered. "Guess two of us are stuck together."

Vergil stood, stretching. "Why am I alone as always?"

Ray pointed at him, laughing. "That’s what you get."

"Shut your mouth Ray, before my mouth slips." Vergil shrugged. "Anyways lets get going."

He turned to move towards the door. "I’m going a bit early, catch you later."
