Chapter 1008: Preparations
Chapter 1008: Preparations
"Second Uncle, don’t load too much for them. Let them get used to it a bit. Otherwise, it might tip over and break the bricks."After all six carts were loaded, Li Yungui instructed them to push the carts and follow him.
At first, they didn’t feel anything when pushing the empty carts over. But now with the bricks loaded, plus the difficult roads, pushing became a bit strenuous.
"No need to rush, just get the direction right. Go slowly."
Li Yungui watched them work with genuine curiosity. They really were not up to the task, not even necessarily better than the ten-year-old kids in the village.
The two places were not close to each other. After fifteen minutes, they finally arrived. Li Cunshan had already been waiting here with the four relocated people for quite some time.
"Why so slow?" Li Cunshan asked, frowning, a bit displeased.
Li Yungui sighed, "Take it slow." What else could he do? It’s just like that and can’t change overnight.
Li Cunshan looked at them, each one flushed and panting heavily, and he sighed too.
"Alright, hurry up and unload the carts." It’s really troubling. Among these four relocated people, three are women, and there’s only Wen Zhenzong, a man, but he hasn’t done laborious work either.
"Later, split them up, let two of them go, and let the Second Uncle and his people come over with five more; otherwise, it’ll be even slower."
Nothing could be done. Worrying wouldn’t speed things up.
After arranging everything, he told them to go back for lunch at 11:30 and come back at 1:30 to continue working. Only then did Li Yungui go home, as he needed to order stones in the afternoon. The foundation needed to be set properly.
When he got home, lunch was already prepared, and the family gathered around to eat.
In the afternoon, Li Yungui ordered stones, tiles, and beams. By the time he got home, it was already evening.
Li Cunshan was in charge of supervising the educated youths at work.
He had no energy left to argue. Luckily, they started managing early. If they were in a hurry, he would have started yelling by now.
Early the next morning, Li Yungui went out on his bike. The chicken chicks had to be arranged promptly since it would take over a month for them to hatch.
He found several people who sold chicks every year and ordered two hundred. But it still didn’t seem enough, so he went to Han Family Village and Zheng Family Village, found the village chiefs, and told them he was there to purchase chicks. They welcomed him warmly.
"Li Yungui, what do you need so many chicks for?"
"Our village wants to set up a chicken farm. We need a lot of chicks."
"A chicken farm? You guys can do that?"
"Of course. I wasted a trainload of words, from the town to the county to the city. It took a hell of a lot of effort to finally get approval."
"Old Li, raising chickens isn’t easy. Don’t get hit by a chicken plague and end up with a disaster."
"We’re doing scientific breeding and already have a formula for chicken feed."
Many villagers from the two villages were willing to provide chicks and promised to keep them until later.
Li Yunqiao thought he should take a trip to Jin Family Village. Wang Shulin was a decent guy, and if he was willing to raise chickens, he would also help out.
By noon, he was at Wang Shulin’s house, having lunch there.
Today, the Wang Family specially prepared a good meal with pancakes, sauerkraut stewed with noodles, and even fried eggs.
"Old Li, want to drink?"
"No, I have things to do later."
Seeing that Li Yungui wasn’t drinking, Wang Shulin didn’t drink either.
"Old Wang, I’m here to order chicks from your village. We’re setting up a chicken farm."
"A chicken farm? You’ve got the paperwork? The higher-ups agreed?"
"Yes, everything’s approved."
"Old Li, this chicken farming business isn’t safe."
Li Yungui nodded, "I know, but Xiao Jiang provided the chicken farm blueprints, custom cages, and the chicken feed formula.
We’ll be doing scientific breeding, and we can go to the county technical station to find technicians and veterinarians. At any rate, I’m determined to give it a try."
Wang Shulin sighed, "Now you’ve got money in your pocket and a straight back, so your words carry weight."
"Haha, just wait and see."
Seeing Li Yungui so confident, Wang Shulin couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
"Old Wang, order chicks from your village for me. Two or three hundred would be no problem."
"Alright, I’ll arrange that."
"Aren’t you jealous?"
"I’ll think about it when you succeed."
Li Yungui smiled and nodded, "Just don’t be envious by then."
"How could I not be?"
"Don’t worry. By then, the chicken cages can be sold to you, and so can the chicken feed."
"You said it yourself."
Li Yungui smiled and nodded, "Yes, I said it."
In the afternoon, Li Yungui went around two more villages before returning home.
Tomorrow, he needed to go out with Old Yang, handle the paperwork himself, while Old Yang went to procure supplies.
By the evening of the next day, a carload of supplies needed by Lu Tiezhu had been transported over.
A day later, Li Yungui, along with the leaders’ order slips, also went to procure supplies, transporting back another large load.
Now Lu Tiezhu was swamped. On that day, the first chicken cage was completed. Xiao Jiang specially came to check it out, nodded with a smile, "Master Lu did an excellent job. Just keep doing it this way."
The chicken coop hadn’t been built yet, and the chicks hadn’t arrived, but the chicken cages were already made.
The last shipment of materials had also arrived. Shuanzi and others helped Lu Tiezhu make chicken cages.
The young people were busy running around, but they felt at ease, feeling like they were truly living their lives.
After another week, all the blue bricks finally arrived. The stones were also delivered.
Li Cunshan decided to prepare to dig the foundation and assembled over ten strong laborers. Although the ground wasn’t completely thawed, it was manageable.
So everyone worked energetically, digging precisely according to the blueprint given by Jiang Xinyu.
In recent days, the educated youths had become somewhat accustomed to the work. By the next day after finishing their tasks, they would all collapse.
Especially the female educated youths, the four of them did quite a lot of work too, mainly because they were no longer required to load and unload the carts. They were just responsible for pushing.
So the four of them worked as much as the male educated youths.
Pan Xiaoying lay on the kang, groaning from exhaustion.
Everyone was doing the same work. "I really can’t take it anymore. The Captain said we’re going to dig foundations next. What a nightmare."
The remaining three didn’t speak, knowing there was no escaping it.
Guo Shuling said faintly, "The Captain said this little bit of work is nothing. It’ll be even more tiring during the spring planting."
Hearing this, they felt even more sympathetic with each other.
"I wonder when we’ll be able to go back?"
"My cousin has been in the countryside for four years already, and there’s still no sign of returning." Hearing this from Yan Shuping, Pan Xiaoying immediately burst into tears, crying loudly as if all her fatigue and grievances were being released.
The other three, hearing her cry, couldn’t hold back either.
So wailing and sobbing sounds came from the educated youth house.
In the neighboring room, the two male educated youths were also tired, but they didn’t react like the girls did. Hearing the cries, they felt troubled inside too.
