Chapter 281: You’re Mainly Afraid of Being Misunderstood by Adrian Linton
Lily Turner walked to the entrance of the residential area in one breath. She looked back to see if anyone was following her, and only then did she gradually slow down, letting her breath calm down a bit.
Since she left the Military District Compound so abruptly, Lily didn’t have time to dress up. Worried about being recognized, she brushed her hair on both sides and tried to keep her head low as she walked towards the roadside.
Beep beep beep!
A car horn suddenly sounded from behind. Lily thought she was blocking someone’s way and moved aside to get out of the way.
Beep beep beep!
The horn blared once more from behind, and Lily frowned unhappily. But instead of staying put out of spite, she stepped aside just like before.
Beep beep beep!
What kind of crazy driver is this? Is honking the horn addictive?
Lily turned around to see who the hell this stubborn driver was, constantly honking even though she’d already moved to the side.
"Hey! Goddess!"
Seeing Lily turn around, Grant Heath lowered the car window and leaned out to wave and greet her.
As soon as Lily turned around, she noticed the car behind was very familiar. Just as she was wondering who it could be, Grant waved and shouted at her.
"Why is it you?" She asked as she walked over to the man in the car.
"Get in the car first, and we’ll talk!"
Grant looked at Lily, who walked to the car door on the driver’s side. He leaned over and opened the passenger side door for her.
Lily hesitated for a moment as she looked at the man in the car, but finally walked around and got in. As soon as she settled into the seat, she turned her head and asked, "What are you doing here? Just passing by? Or..."
"I came specifically to find you."
Before Lily could finish, Grant interrupted, but he didn’t tell the truth; he had followed her all the way from the Military District Compound.
Upon hearing this, Lily frowned in confusion and asked, "Looking for me? Is something wrong?"
Although she and Grant were good partners and friends, due to her family’s special circumstances, she rarely invited him to her parents’ house, and he hadn’t come looking for her here for many years.
His sudden appearance today made her feel surprised and puzzled.
"Can’t I come to see you even if there’s nothing wrong?"
Grant glanced at the puzzled Lily, settled into his seat, started the engine, and quickly drove onto the road.
"I didn’t say you couldn’t," Lily sighed and continued, "We should maintain some distance for now; otherwise, who knows what those journalists might write?"
Upon hearing this, Grant turned his head slightly but didn’t actually look at Lily, just motioning, "They can say whatever they want, I’m not afraid of her."
He was eager for those journalists to write something; it was precisely what he wanted.
"You may not be afraid, but I am. I have a family to think about now," Lily responded without thinking, her words so natural and direct.
Grant’s brow furrowed sharply, but because he was facing forward, Lily, sitting in the passenger seat, didn’t see it. She continued, "I’m also worried that others might misunderstand that there’s something between us, which could affect your luck with love, and that wouldn’t be great."
She turned to face the man driving, a slight guilt and worry appearing on her face.
"You’re mainly afraid Adrian Linton will misunderstand, right?"
Grant didn’t even turn his head, his eyes still focused intently on the road ahead.
