Chapter 546 545: Adventurers?
Chapter 546 545: Adventurers?
For the next few weeks, space was chaotic as the two sides clashed to see if they could gain an advantage over the other while also fighting over territory.
The four human-kin didn't like each other but they joined together in this stage as they weren't enough in number if they stood alone.
Anyway, after the battle the territories were decided upon. The human-kin were only able to secure 50% of the planet while the other 50 went to the beasts.
Then they divided that into four parts. Since they were equal in power, they divided the space into four and each took theirs and seldom interacted with the others.
This gave birth to the Mayan Kingdom led by pure humans, The Great Forest led by elves, The Blood Kingdom led by vampires, and Nayam led by orcs who literally reversed the Mayan name because they were too lazy to think about a name themselves.
Anyway, after that they began recruiting the modern-day humans for different reasons. And it was a very competitive event.
The reason was that unlike modern humans, they had lost the ability to directly absorb KP after a kill since they weren't covered by the IA.
During their period they were covered but it passed. Now they could only advance the hard way. Through cultivation which was extremely slow for most.
It was even worse than beasts that only needed to devour and absorb internally.
So they needed modern-day humans to hold the fort lest they get overrun.
Unfortunately, despite that importance, modern-day humans were still not seen as important in most cases.
Vampires turned those they found worthy and kept the rest as food. Elves took them in but kept them on the outskirts of the forest while providing little assistance.
Their reasoning was that providing a safe place to live was already generous enough. But the problem with that reasoning was the fact that it was barely safe as the places would be hit first during inversions.
So expecting the humans to feel grateful was way too entitled and out of touch.
Yup, elves were just as prideful and racist as they say in stories. They looked down on anyone who wasn't an elf. So at the very least they were fair in that way.
Then there were the humans. While they treated the humans the best. They were still limited in how high they could climb in society unless they had undeniable talent like Klaus.
But then again, it was wartime, so maybe there was nothing wrong with that situation.
At such times, one fighter is better than a hundred talkers.
And there were other opportunities like working in logistics, house help, and agriculture since not everyone could live without food. Hell, even prostitution was back in the streets. It wasn't a good thing, but that's just how life was. People had to do what they had to do to survive.
Of course, there were other choices if one wasn't too lazy. So anyone who did was purely choosing the easy way out since it was never the only choice when they could be adventurous.
This was a profession Klaus introduced. Of course, he pitched it and it was accepted.
The job description was basically registering with the guild, accepting missions, and getting paid in various beast cores.
The jobs ranged from beast clearing, escorts, gathering rare ores, plants, and so on. The usual thing one can expect from an adventurer system.
But of course, it has risks, so not everyone was willing to put themselves through that.
It was really in demand too. After all, considering the size of the planet now, the Mayan Kingdom was actually many times bigger than the blue planet's surface area before the apocalypse.
So there was a lot of land that needed to be covered.
R7s,8s, and 9s could easily cover the whole planet with their divine sense and monitor everything. But it leaves them exposed to mental attacks.
None of them was willing to do it for that very reason.
So they needed the little people to go around taking care of that.
Not to mention that they also needed to manage other planets they owned.
That's right, the land they claimed wasn't just the tiny part on the blue planet but many other planets in the whole galaxy.
R9s were easy Galaxy-level powerhouses, so claiming planets was easy enough.
Hell, they would have gone beyond had they not been stopped by some invisible barrier that contained them inside.
Then there were their fights. Those actually occurred in a mirror world they were sent to by the world spirit otgrwiees even if it's who knows how far away. As long as it's within the galaxy, it would destroy everything.
The shockwaves and noises actually leak over from there.
The battles that happen in space are R6 at best.
While the planet could easily take that damage now, the spirit refused to take it to avoid the cleanup process.
And no one minded really. After all, they were fighting for it, so why would they want to trash it?...
Anyway, this should have covered all the necessary things that needed to be covered. Now we can get back to the story...
.....
Present time...
"Whoa. You all went through a lot. I'm kind of glad we weren't there honestly. It would suck to suddenly fall from the peak to the very bottom like that. After all, what's an R7 to a R9?" Muku expressed his true thoughts while the girls nodded along.
"Exactly. I envy you. But then again, you're returning soon right? So we will be in the same situation. That makes me feel a bit better. Hell, I have already gotten used to the situation but you haven't yet. Hahaha. I can't wait to see the powerlessness in your eyes" Klaus spoke happily as he imagined what he was saying.
He was really curious to see how Muku and the girls looked without that quiet confidence that came from always being on top of things.
They might not have noticed that they carry themselves differently from everyone else in the apocalypse who has an element of despair to them. But everyone else could see it clearly.
Which was understandable really. After all, the group has barely had to suffer compared to others. Sure they almost died in some cases. But those situations were rare.
On the other hand, the common Evolver couldn't even blink without making sure that they were safe on a normal day.
So of course they would carry themselves differently from each other.
"Ah... Yeah..." Muku didn't know how to respond.
He thought of telling Klaus that they were already R9 so they would still be at the peak of the current food chain. But he decided against it and let this sworn brother of his celebrate for a bit longer.
"Where are you anyway?" Klaus asked.
"We'll talk once we return. You said you're in the Mayan Kingdom right? In fact, send me your location. We'll follow that..." Muku asked and then suggested.
"Ah, that's probably for the best. And try not to be too high profile when you come. The current world is way above our pay grade. It's simply too dangerous" Klaus advised seriously.
He remembered how the group went around in a floating castle. That was definitely asking to get killed now more than ever.
Especially when you're a pitiful R7. Or even R8 which he suspected they had reached since they were even more talented than he was.
He could already see them taking his place as the most favoured modern-day person by the Kingdom.
But he didn't mind. It was still in the family after all. And honestly, it would take the unnecessary heat and smothering he was facing.
The more he thought about it, the more he looked forward to it. That's how much he disliked being the centre of attention.
The worst part was that he still hadn't met the damned king who smothered him so much...
"Yeah, we'll keep that in mind. See you soon brother-in-law. Please greet my sisters-in-law for me" Muk replied.
He pettily didn't mention Chris. If Chris was going to be petty, then he would accompany him until the end!
"Sure. You do the same. Oh and put in a good word with my sister for me. Let her know that I was joking and I love you. I'm glad you are fine. We were really worried for a moment there" Klaus replied seriously.
"You wish. We are definitely settling this when I get there. You'd better say your prayers!" Jade shouted before Muku could say anything.
"You petty brat! I was trying to be the bigger man here. But fine! I'll accompany you as far as you want. You want war? I'll bring you war!... Hello? Hello?" Klaus instantly exploded.
The mature air he was building up vanished the moment Jade spoke.
Unfortunately for him, she cut the call as soon as she finished speaking. So what he said was heard by only him and Chris...
"Tsk. That brat... Still as hot-blooded as ever. See you soon little sis. And welcome back..." Klaus cursed before breaking into a warm smile...
"Couldn't you let me at least say hi?" Chris asked as soon as the barrier was brought down.
"Don't you have your own phone?" Klaus asked with an eye roll.
You know mine needs fifty times the amount of mana to use than yours...
"Oh yeah. Hahaha. It must be broken or something. Hahaha," Klaus gave a schadenfreude-filled reply.
