Chapter 408: Please Marry My Son (1)_1
"Hansen Ruiz," said Rachel Bailey, suppressing her smile and looking seriously at him, "I'm touched and happy, but I can't give you an answer right now." When disappointment flashed in Hansen Ruiz's eyes and across his face, she playfully added, "Because you haven't met my parents yet. I'll only accept your proposal after you've met my parents and family. After all, this would be a whirlwind marriage. I was thinking we'd date for eight or ten years before getting married, but lo and behold, you proposed after just ten days or so."
How fast things progressed! And yet, she wasn't as shocked as she had been at first; she no longer felt resistant to the idea of marrying him. Sometimes, the longer the romance, the less the desire to marry. That's what she heard some people say: that if a relationship goes on for too long, the spark of romance fizzles out, making it hard for the couple to tie the knot. She'd always been skeptical of whirlwind marriages, but when it was her turn, she suddenly thought it might not be so bad.
"We've known each other for quite some time now," Hansen Ruiz said. It had been almost three months, and he felt he understood her well enough.
Hearing her say that she would accept his proposal only after he met her parents back home, he was overjoyed again. He immediately thought about notifying his subordinates to prepare lavish gifts for a visit to his future parents-in-law.
"Your family..." Rachel thought, her spirits sinking as she remembered Alwin Ruiz's haughty demeanor. Although marriage was a matter between her and Hansen Ruiz, Alwin Ruiz was his birth mother. Even if she and Hansen lived in T City and never returned to A City, it wouldn't change their relationship as mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Given Alwin Ruiz's personality, she would undoubtedly come to T City to cause trouble.
Hansen Ruiz took back the ring and pulled her into his embrace. He untied her ponytail and gently smoothed her soft hair. His deep eyes gazed into hers as he spoke in a warm, deep voice, "This is our matter. I'll ask them to attend as witnesses. If they don't want to come, that's fine. No matter what happens, no one can stop us. Rachel, all you need to do is trust me."
Rachel Bailey nestled in his arms, her voice filled with envy as she whispered, "I haven't seen Julia Bluen recently, but we talk on the phone every day. Julia is now truly happy; because she's pregnant, her mother-in-law dotes on her like her own daughter. Her overbearing, arrogant, and unreasonable sister-in-law has finally accepted her. She has finally managed to integrate into that large, complex family. I hope I can be as happy as her and at least get your family to accept me. Hansen, don't worry. I'll work twice as hard in the future to make your family accept me as part of it."
If her good friend Julia could do it, why couldn't she, Rachel Bailey? She firmly believed that persistence would eventually pay off. She refused to believe that her future mother-in-law's heart could be harder than stone.
Hansen Ruiz hadn't told her about the Horne Family's recent troubles. He didn't want her to worry about Julia Bluen, especially since Julia herself hadn't mentioned anything to her, clearly not wanting Rachel to fret. Therefore, he was even less inclined to bring it up.
Sometimes, he found the notion of fate quite amusing. Glades Horne married Julia Bluen, and he, as Glades Horne's good friend and subordinate, had fallen in love with Julia's friend. Two friends falling in love with two friends—the workings of fate were truly unfathomable.
The two sat side by side on the beach, quietly soaking in the serene beauty.
As the night grew darker, Hansen Ruiz thoughtfully escorted Rachel Bailey back to the Emerald Garden Building.
Only after seeing the lights on in Rachel's rented apartment did he reluctantly drive back to his villa.
There was a car waiting for him in front of his villa.
Ignoring it completely, he opened the villa's gate and drove straight in. His villa had no servants, only a cleaning service that came at scheduled times. He planned to hire a few servants after marrying Rachel; he couldn't bear to see his little woman toil.
The car followed him into the villa.
After parking, Hansen Ruiz walked straight into the Main House without a glance back, seemingly unconcerned by the car following him, as if he knew something. Out of the car stepped three men, two clad in grey suits with stern expressions, looking difficult to deal with. They were forcibly holding a man with a digital camera—Anton Wallace, the person Alwin Ruiz had sent to pose as a homewrecker.
"Hey, what are you doing? Let go of me! I'm the Wallace Family's young master, and I'm your Young Master's cousin! Damn it, don't you believe me? I'm not a chicken, stop manhandling me!" Anton Wallace complained, his face flushing with anger as the two men manhandled him into the house.
After the two men threw him onto the floor inside the Main House, one of them said to Hansen Ruiz, who was sitting on the sofa with his back to the main entrance, "Big Brother Jun, this man was sneaking around, spying on you, and even took photos of you. How should we deal with him?"
"What sneaking around? I was just there taking pictures of the night sea, and I happened to capture Cousin Jun in them. I wasn't spying; I'm an artist, most interested in beautiful scenery. The seaside at night is so beautiful, so romantic..." Anton Wallace scrambled up from the floor, retorting unhappily to the two men's accusations.
"Cousin Jun, it's me, your cousin Anton." After retorting to the two men in grey, Anton Wallace walked over to Hansen Ruiz, intending to sit opposite him.
He was inwardly astounded by Hansen Ruiz's influence. He hadn't seen anyone around, yet two pairs of hands had suddenly reached out, grabbed him, dragged him into a car, and whisked him away from the beach. He knew this cousin was not to be trifled with. Yet, thinking about his aunt's threats, he had no choice but to come to T City. After hiding out for several days, he still hadn't dared to show himself before Rachel Bailey. He had seen his older cousin—who always appeared warm and pleasant, yet remained single at thirty-five—create such a romantic scene on the beach for Rachel Bailey. He knew well that anyone who dared to lay a hand on Rachel Bailey would face certain doom!
