Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 405: Proposal (2)_1

Chapter 405: Proposal (2)_1

From a distance, everyone could sense Pheobe Rogers's anger and sorrow, and James Horne's indifference.

No one knew what had happened between this mother and son.

After a while, everyone saw Pheobe Rogers glaring hatefully at the villa before seemingly leaving in tears.

Only when Pheobe Rogers's car had left did Mila Anderson breathe a sigh of relief, her expression much softer.

Glades Horne and Julia Bluen exchanged a look. A glint of coldness flashed in Glades's eyes, while a hint of sympathy for James shone in Julia's. Then, without a word, they helped the elderly madam and Mila Anderson back into the hall to sit down.

Finally, Doctor Lei arrived.

However, Glades Horne said Julia was fine and didn't need to be seen. Yet, he still kept Doctor Lei there, as he had other plans.

It was time for dinner.

So, Glades Horne said he would talk about that matter after dinner.

With that, everyone moved towards the dining room.

Deliberately lagging behind with Glades, after the elderly madam had entered the dining room, Julia stared at him and quietly asked, "Do you intend to tell Grandma about Brother Marcel?"

Glades Horne pressed his lips together and said nothing.

It couldn't be kept a secret anymore.

Marcel Horne was not going to be able to stand up again anytime soon, and it was impossible for him to stay in the hospital indefinitely. After being discharged, he would bring Marcel back to the Horne family villa. There were more people here to look after him. If Marcel went back to the Military District residence where his parents lived, only his parents would be by his side. His father was busy, and it would be tiring for his mother to care for him on her own.

More importantly, in a large family, everyone could comfort and encourage him. Given the elderly madam's influence, he might regain confidence, cooperate with the treatment, and eventually stand up again.

"If I had known this would happen, I wouldn't have had to keep it so painfully secret," Julia murmured.

"Julia, you've had a hard time," Glades responded.

His words were filled with deep gratitude.

Having such a wife, he was satisfied, very satisfied.

"Let's go inside, stop being mushy." Julia pulled him along and walked quickly inside.

Upon the long dining table lay a spread of delicious dishes, and everyone took their usual seats.

The elderly madam ate particularly little.

Glades Horne had said he would tell her something, but insisted on waiting until after dinner. She guessed it must be related to Marcel and likely bad news. Glades probably didn't want to worry her during the meal, which was why he wanted to tell her afterwards.

After dinner, the elderly madam left the hall and sat on the sofa, waiting for Glades Horne to tell her that matter.

The others sat in the hall as usual after meals.

Julia glanced at Glades Horne but said nothing.

"Grandma, Marcel has been injured. He's a hero, a life-saving hero. He was hurt while saving others," Glades Horne said, his words concise yet heavy. He looked at the elderly madam directly, no longer beating around the bush.

The elderly madam's body jolted, and everyone else was greatly shocked.

Yet, Adele Horne turned her face away, secretly wiping her eyes.

After her own ordeal, she had completely changed. She had become a different person, one who truly knew how to care for and look after her family. The news of Marcel's injury pained her heart. Just the thought of her tall, imposing brother, striking in his military uniform, being unable to stand brought tears to her eyes.

Compared to the blow her brother had suffered, her own troubles felt much lighter.

"This happened six days ago, right?" Two lines of tears slid down from the elderly madam's cloudy eyes. She had sensed something was wrong with Marcel; otherwise, she wouldn't have been so eager to see him these past few days.

"Yes. He's out of life-threatening danger now. I, Julia, Adele, and Marcel's parents all know about it. We kept it from you because we were worried you couldn't bear it. Everything Julia did just now was a deception, designed to divert your thoughts and prevent you from asking about Marcel. Now, I don't want to hide it from you any longer," Glades spoke, his voice growing deeper.

Everyone's expression grew more solemn with his voice. No one blamed Julia for her act; instead, they were all concerned about Marcel's injury. The injury must be severe for Glades to be so weighed down, right?

"How is Marcel...?" The elderly madam's voice was choked with emotion, her tears falling faster and faster. As a mother, she had worried over her five children; as a grandmother, she worried over all her children and grandchildren. Any misfortune that befell one of them cut her heart like a knife. Marcel, that grandson of hers... ever since he became a soldier, he rarely came to visit, causing her endless worry. She truly feared she might leave this world without seeing him one last time. Now, Marcel was finally supposed to be back. She had thought all her grandsons would be gathered around her, and she could finally enjoy true family happiness. But first, Adele had her ordeal, which saddened her deeply. She had tried her best to endure it, not wanting to distress everyone. Just as Adele's matter had settled, now Marcel had an accident...

"His injuries are severe, in both legs. He'll have to use a wheelchair for some time. The doctors say there is a chance he can stand again with proper treatment," Glades said, struggling with great pain to get the words out.

He had been busy for so many days, trying every possible means to bring in the world's best doctors, yet the results were still the same.

The bond among the five brothers was deep. Marcel's despondency bored into his heart like an auger.

"In a few days, Marcel will be discharged, and I've decided to bring him here. Doctor Lei will move in to look after Marcel closely and help him with his treatment. However..." Glades scanned the teary faces around him, sighed deeply, and continued, "Marcel has become pessimistic since learning he needs to use a wheelchair. We all need to find ways to bolster his confidence. It's the only way his leg injuries will heal."

If Marcel continued in such despair, even an injury that could be healed might become incurable.

The doctors had said the patient's will was the most important factor.

The treatment process would be painful and difficult. Those who couldn't endure it often became even more negative.
