Chapter 400: It's Hard To Keep The Truth Hidden (1)_1

Chapter 400: It's Hard To Keep The Truth Hidden (1)_1

Throughout the trip, Glades Horne was silent, his lips pressed tightly together, his hands gripping Julia Bluen's tightly. Although Julia was also very worried and nervous, not knowing exactly what had happened to Marcel Horne, seeing Glades in such a state, she suppressed her own worries and anxieties, soothingly holding his hand back. Comforting him, she said, "Glades, don't worry, Brother Marcel will be alright."

That was what she said, but when Julia thought of the way her sister wept on the phone, her heart still clenched tight. Glades didn't speak and merely turned to glance at her once, seeing the consoling look in her eyes, he took her into his embrace.

Although it was a time of peace, unlike the era of war where soldiers were in much greater danger, unexpected incidents could still happen during routine training. If Marcel had gotten into trouble in the military, it was likely due to an accident during training.

Adele Horne sat in the passenger seat and no longer spoke. She didn't even dare to ask Glades what had happened to Marcel, only silently repeating in her heart, Second Brother will be alright! Second Brother will be alright!

They quickly arrived at the hospital. By now, the sky had completely darkened. Who knew if it was the heavens joining in the commotion or taking pity on Marcel Horne, but rain began to fall, despite the sunny day it had been. How could the heavens change their face so quickly, just as evening arrived? The incessant drizzle caused the temperature to drop rapidly, cold enough to make one shiver.

The hospital at night was much quieter than during the day, but its tranquility made it seem eerily somber. Glades and his party of four hurried into the elevator, heading for the Surgery Room on the eighth floor.

Outside the Surgery Room, about a dozen soldiers in uniform stood there, along with Ruby Bluen, and Sovia Morris and her husband.

Sovia was still in tears, supported by Ruby, and although Sovia never liked Ruby much, at this moment, she was willing to accept comfort and support from her.

Ruby's face was still streaked with tears, and her hands, holding onto Sovia, were trembling, showing Sovia how worried, truly worried she was.

"Sis."

"Uncle, Auntie."

As soon as Glades Horne exited the elevator, he quickly walked up to the front of the Surgery Room with Julia Bluen, with Adele Horne following close behind them.

"Glades, Julia, you've arrived. The old lady doesn't know, does she?" Old Horne stood up; his face was still composed, but he couldn't hide his worry about Marcel.

"Let's not inform the old lady for now. I only asked your aunt to notify you," Old Horne said, glancing at Julia, who had already approached Sovia Morris and was supporting her alongside Ruby Bluen.

"How is Marcel? What happened?" Glades asked in a deep voice, his handsome face still very stern, but worry was etched between his brows. Hearing Old Horne's instructions, he agreed. Marcel was the one the old lady worried about the most. How could he dare tell her? He didn't even dare to inform the other family members yet.

Among those dozen or so soldiers, one stepped forward to explain the cause and course of Marcel's accident to Glades.

It turned out that in the evening, Marcel Horne and a dozen comrades were walking on a street near the barracks. Suddenly, they saw a five- or six-year-old child crying and crossing the road alone without any adults nearby. Coincidentally, a car was speeding toward the child, who was so frightened that he stood frozen in the middle of the street, not knowing how to dodge. Marcel, who happened to be passing by with his comrades, was terrified but reacted the fastest. He dashed towards the child with lightning speed, pushing the child to the side of the road, but the oncoming vehicle struck him, breaking his legs.

He was currently undergoing surgery in the Surgery Room.

After learning the reasons and events that unfolded, Glades Horne's facial expression darkened further, his lips pursed even tighter. Ever since Julia mentioned she disliked how he always pursed his lips, he had rarely done so. But at this moment, he found that without pursing his lips, he couldn't suppress the worry in his heart.

Marcel's legs were broken?

Does that mean he'll have to leave the military?

Marcel harbored a special sentiment towards being a soldier, which was why he relinquished his identity as a wealthy young master to become a serviceman. If he were to learn that his legs were broken, could he endure such a blow? Could the old lady who worried about him withstand such a shock?

He couldn't blame anyone!

If only there were someone he could criticize, he might be able to vent his own concerns. The one who had been rescued was a child around five or six years old. What could he possibly blame? Marcel was a soldier, honorable and upright, with a duty to rescue in the face of danger.

He clenched his fists tightly, not speaking a word, standing outside the Surgery Room like a zombie.

It was unclear how much time had passed before the light in the Surgery Room finally turned off, and a doctor was the first to emerge.

"Doctor, how is my son?"

The crowd advanced, Old Horne inquiring anxiously.

Glades Horne stood at the forefront. He did not ask anything but stared intensely at the doctor.

"The patient is out of life-threatening danger, and the surgery was very successful. However, his severe injuries are to his legs. Even with a successful operation, he will have to spend a considerable amount of time in a wheelchair. But don't worry. As long as he has confidence in himself and cooperates with medical treatment, there's still a chance for him to stand up again."

Upon hearing that Marcel Horne was out of life-threatening danger, everyone's tensed hearts finally eased. Yet when they heard the doctor say Marcel would need a wheelchair, their hearts sank once again.

There's still a chance to stand up again?

Does that mean the chance isn't one hundred percent?

If Marcel were to wake up and find out that he had to use a wheelchair, and if he were to give up on himself, then wouldn't he never be able to stand up again?

Various worries then filled everyone's hearts.

Moments later, the doctor and nurses wheeled Marcel Horne out of the Surgery Room.

After he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, Ruby Bluen and Sovia Morris sat on either side of the bed, both women with tears in their eyes, silently watching the still-unconscious Marcel. His well-defined face looked very pale, probably due to excessive blood loss.

"Marcel…" Sovia Morris sobbed softly, feeling pain as if her heart was being sliced apart.

Ruby Bluen held onto one of Marcel's hands, silently praying in her heart to the heavens for Marcel to wake up soon, for him to recover quickly. She had heard every word the doctor said. No matter whether Marcel's legs could recover or not, she would stand by him, never leaving him. She would encourage Marcel, ensure he accepted treatment, and help him stand up once again.
