Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 393 393: Affection (2)_1

Chapter 393 393: Affection (2)_1

Winter nights always arrived particularly early; the sun had barely sunk below the horizon when darkness swiftly descended.

Once Adele Horne had calmed down, Glades Horne and Julia Bluen returned to their little home in the Regal Court Residences. Before returning to their own place, they also visited the Bluen Family, receiving care and concern from everyone there. After dining at the Bluen family home, they headed to their villa, nestled deep within the gardens.

No sooner had Julia gotten out of the car than she felt her feet leave the ground.

"Glades!" She was startled by him suddenly sweeping her into his arms and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, murmuring his name. A smile played on her lips, though she gave him a look of mock annoyance as she said, "You're going to scare me to death."

Glades cradled her effortlessly, as if she were as light as cotton, and walked towards the house. His expression was so tender it seemed water could be wrung from it, and his eyes shone like stars. His voice, however, was low and magnetic as he said, "I haven't held you yet today."

Since returning from the Police Station, she had stayed by her sister's side, comforting her. If his heart hadn't ached for what her sister had endured, and if her sister hadn't truly needed someone with her, he would have gone mad. Since their marriage, she had never spent an entire day with anyone but him.

Upon hearing his words, Julia's eyes curved, and her smile grew sweeter. Sometimes this man really was like a child who would cry if he didn't get his candy for the day.

Glades carried her into the Main House and gently set her down on the sofa. Then he crouched before her, his large hand resting on her lower abdomen, his eyes filled with the joy of an expectant father.

"Is the baby alright?"

"Very well, don't worry. Didn't Dr. Lei say my health is excellent? If I, as the mother, am healthy, the baby will be too," Julia assured him, taking his strong hand and enveloping it with both of hers. She looked at him with a smile. She knew that ever since her pregnancy was confirmed, he had been extremely anxious for her, even though he appeared outwardly calm. She might not have realized the depth of his inner anxiety if she hadn't woken up one night to find him awake, just watching her abdomen with worry and nervousness.

With nine months to go, she found the National Treasure Level treatment to be a kind of torture. But for him, these nine months of waiting must be a torment as well.

"Julia, why don't you listen to Mom and stay home to nurture the pregnancy, alright?" Glades stood up, then sat down beside her on the sofa, speaking softly.

Julia tilted her head to look at him, her eyes bright and watchful, yet she remained silent.

Feeling her intent gaze, Glades sighed helplessly. He pulled her into his embrace and said in a husky voice, "Alright, you can still work for these next few months. But once your belly starts to show, you must stay home and rest. As for work, you can occasionally visit the company. The managers working for you are highly capable; you can trust them."

The leadership team cultivated by the Valence Group was first-rate.

"By the way, it's been so long, have you hired a Secretary yet? You can't drink alcohol now that you're pregnant. And you also need to hire someone specifically to handle your computer work, to reduce your exposure to its radiation," Glades suddenly brought up the old topic.

Actually, Glades was well aware of everything happening at her company. However, he had promised her he absolutely wouldn't intervene, which is why he hadn't asked about hiring a Secretary again.

Resting her head on his solid shoulder, Julia replied softly, "So much has been happening lately that I've been too busy and it slipped my mind. However, I did instruct the Administrative Department to find someone. There are plenty of women who can hold their liquor, but finding one who is also suited to be a Secretary is difficult."

Glades pursed his lips in silence.

"As for someone to help me with computer tasks, I have a candidate in mind, but I'm not sure if Mom would agree," Julia said, tilting her head up to look at Glades's well-defined, handsome chin.

Glades lowered his head, his lips still pursed, his brows slightly furrowed.

After a moment, he asked in a low voice, "You're talking about Adele, aren't you?"

"Yes. Adele gets bored staying at home. When she's bored, she tends to go out and make friends recklessly. She's not very scheming and, despite her temper, she isn't bad at heart. I'm worried she might run into another Orlando Evans. If she works at my company, firstly, she can gain some work experience. Secondly, she's family. You know how important the data stored on the computers is; it's all confidential. I can't truly trust an outsider with it. It's not that I'm overly suspicious, but we can't give anyone an opportunity to exploit any loopholes. Corporate spies are not uncommon, you know. With Adele, I'd feel more at ease," Julia explained her reasoning.

"Adele has matured somewhat after this ordeal. Still, as they say, 'a leopard can't change its spots.' Her temper is pretty much set. Aren't you afraid that if you hire her, friction will arise again between you two as sisters-in-law? Your relationship has only recently improved," Glades said, tenderly stroking her short hair. His voice was soft and tinged with a comfortable laziness, his expression content.

He cherished these moments, with her nestled in his arms, talking to him. This tranquility, this peace, where they could discuss anything—work, personal matters, family affairs—was precious. She was his wife, his lover, his confidante, his everything. Holding her felt like holding the entire world.

"I'm not afraid. I believe she won't hold any grudges against me anymore. After what she's been through, she'll truly mature," Julia said confidently.

"Adele is accustomed to a life of ease, having everything provided for her and spending money like water. I'm concerned she might not be willing to work at your company," Glades voiced his worry. He would naturally be pleased if his sister could assist his beloved wife. However, he feared that Adele, having been a pampered young lady for so long, wouldn't want to work at Julia's company. He had arranged for her to join the Valence Group in the past, but she had even feigned illness to avoid it.
