The sound of gunshots still echoed throughout the area. The damage number grew higher as Emilia dropped on her knee and rubbed her painful stomach.
Emilia pressed her lips so tightly. She was so exhausted and her HP had been draining. She could not even hit her enemy even once. She had been attacked by this illusionist girl so much that she was so bruised. Her blue eyes turned to Maysa, who was still standing in the same place.
Spear Sand
The small girl held her breath and used the very last amount of her MP to call the sand spear and attack Maysa. And the result was still the same. The reason why she did not want to attack was because she had never figured out her enemy just yet. The spear went through Maysa again!
“Using your little MP for a useless move, are you sure, Emilia?”
The sweet voice sounded behind her. Emilia gritted her teeth so tightly because she knew that she would be hit again. As expected, a magic bullet hit the center of her back. She fell on her face so hard that her blue eyes rolled up in a flash before she finally collapsed.
Silence overtook the place. The last attack seemed to be powerful enough to take the last bit of Emilia’s life out of her.
The wind blew. Maysa was panting so harshly with her face full of sweat. It was obvious that the Illusion actually took a toll on her.
“Is it over?”
She murmured. She was still holding on to a black pistol, whose pattern on the gun looked different from her Illusion. The tip of the barrel was carved with a beautiful golden flame. Her illusional pistol was improved especially for this fight.
“This takes a lot of time. What a girl.” She took a deep breath. “It’s just in time, though, since I’m almost out of MP, too.”
She opened a potion bottle while looking at Emilia scrutinizingly to make sure that...
She was really dead.
“Al, can you check if this girl’s dead?”
Maysa asked her AI while sipping the MP potion.
“It’s uncertain, Ms. Maysa. It seems like she’s using an item that protects her from being spied on, so I can’t possibly check for that.”
“I see.”
She stopped drinking and blew her mouth.
If we could not do that, we would have to prove it with our eyes. From what she saw, there was no movement from the girl anymore. It did not seem like she was breathing, either...
“I think she’s dead,” Maysa concluded and licked her lips. “Then, can I have the location of Shin and Nam now? I have to go help them.”
“Roger that.”
----------------
‘Am I really dead?’
A Signerater like me just lost to a mere human being?
Her bright blue eyes opened widely while the body was still lying face-down on the ground. Her HP gauge was empty. Even though her power was still sealed, she should not have lost to a human being like this.
‘You’re so worthless, Emilia!’
In the end, she was only a worthless woman who did not seem to be able to do anything. She was only a dead weight. She was only a useless one who did not deserve to be here in the first place.
‘Emilia, my dear daughter, what are you doing here? Are you crying, sweetheart?’
A gentle voice of a familiar man and the scene from the past flashed before her. A tiny thirteen-year-old girl was crouching at the back of a building. The sky was bright, and the breeze was blowing leisurely.
Although the tall man’s face was not clear, his voice and the gentle peppermint fragrance let the girl know that he was...
‘Father.’ She looked up with tears on her face.
‘Why are you here crying alone, Emilia?’
He sat down next to the girl. She hugged him tightly. He stroked her hair to console her.
‘Am I worthless?’ The girl asked.
‘Why do you think so?’ The man asked back.
‘Viola said that it’s because of my weak body that I’m a dead weight to everyone and, therefore, the experiment and the training don’t go anywhere. And that you’ll eventually leave me if I’m like this.’
The man smiled gently and wiped his daughter’s tears off her face.
‘Stupid girl, why would I leave my dear daughter because of that.’ He said. ‘Viola may be harsh, but she loves you very much. She often tells me that you’re the brightest in the group.’
‘That’s not true. She hates me. Why else would she always reprimand me and not others?’
‘That’s because she loves and adores you, my dear Emilia. If she hates you, she wouldn’t have cared about you like how she’s doing with the other Signeraters.’
The girl sobbed in her father’s arms. Even though she felt better now, she still held on to her father’s shirt tightly.
‘What about you? Are you sure you won’t leave me?’
‘Absolutely, my dear Emilia.’ He smiled.
‘It doesn’t matter if you’re adopted, a dead weight to your friends, or worthless.’
The man paused and grabbed his daughter’s shoulders.
‘Listen to me, Emilia.’ He smiled gently. ‘No one’s worthless in this world. There’s always a special skill in everyone. You’re one of the gifted people who will make my wish come true. I’ll never leave my beloved daughter for anything like that.’
The girl took a deep breath and stared at her father.
‘Promise?’
‘Promise. Even though we’re not biologically related, I love you very much. Not only you, but also Viola, Lucius, Sander, Aaron, Scarlet, and Miguel. I love everyone. All of you are my dream. I can’t lose any one of you. There’s no way I’ll leave you.’
Hearing that, the girl hugged her father tightly again. He laughed softly before he gently pushed her back.
‘Now, go back to them. They must have been worried sick, especially Viola.’
‘Yes.’
The girl’s voice was more cheerful now. She smiled a little, revealing her white teeth. However, before they both left, the man took something out of the information screen on his side.
‘I have something for you, Emilia.’
He turned Emilia around before gently putting a necklace with a silver flower and a yellow gem in the middle on her.
‘This necklace is... so pretty. Are you giving it to me?’
‘Yes. Today’s your birthday. It’s the day we first met.’
The man smiled at her. It was the gentlest smile with so much love in it.
Father...
That smile...
I wanted to see Father’s smile again!
The scene of the past started to fade. Her blue eyes slowly glowed brighter. She could feel the strength coming back to her. The small girl struggled a little to push herself up from the ground.
“I’ve found Ms. Waree and Mr. Shindanai. I’ll... Ms. Maysa, behind you!”
The AI screamed so loudly when he saw that Emilia was now standing on two feet again. Maysa turned to her with a fearful face before she quickly called her Illusion back into her hand.
“She’s still alive?!”
The gun girl screeched. Emilia could finally stand up, even with her face drooped. Her eyes terrifyingly sparkled.
Maysa could feel the immense pressure. She quickly pointed the pistol at her and pulled the trigger, hoping to kill the woman before her again.
Bloody Shot
Bang!
Maysa’s attack was fast, but the ray that was shot out was brushed off in the blink of an eye. Emilia had not even moved an inch!
“W... What? My bullet...”
“...I’m...”
Emilia murmured. At the same time, the ground where both of them were standing trembled so fiercely. Maysa looked around and knew right away that it was a bad idea to be here any longer.
“I’m... not worthless~~!!!”
BOOM!!!!
The ground broke to pieces. The surface around that area parted. It was good that Maysa had already predicted her move and leaped to the safe area, which was the tall building about fifty meters away from there.
“What’s going on with her? She should have died. And that power...”
