Chapter 623: Back to The Battlefield Part I

Chapter 623: Back to The Battlefield Part I

“Why are you guys so laid-back, Lucius?!”

Somebody yelled out and slammed the hand on the short table. The eyes behind those sunglasses glared at the tall figure on the opposite side, who was looking at the information screen with a straight face. He did not even glance at the shouting man.

“And what do you think you’ll achieve with the yelling, William?”

The quiet man said nonchalantly. His eyes skimmed through everything on the screen. The man in front of him was not sure anymore if he was a genius or just a crazy man since no one in this world would stare at the screen so endlessly like this.

“Why the yelling, you say?!” The purple-haired man shouted. “Open your eyes and see for yourself how things are. I’ll tell you if you don’t know. We’re about to be invaded. Those sons of bitches are coming for us!”

“And?”

The quiet man asked back. He brushed his red hair back and rested his head on his hand.

“And?” William scolded him. “We’re about to be ambushed by the four freaking gods and you’re still so calm reading those nonsense texts on the screen?!”

Lucius scoffed softly before he glanced at William for the first time. His glowing ruby-red eyes were so dignified that William froze in place!

“What do you want me to do?” Lucius asked.

“J... Just do something!” William said.

“Do something?” Lucius chuckled. “I think the one who should be doing something is you, William, you’re the leader of this army. Why would you ask a mercenary like me to do something?”

William was speechless because Lucius was stating the truth. But what could he do when the enemies were the four gods and that Vincent!!

“Because you’re responsible for it!” William was still loud.

“Responsible? Me?” Lucius raised his eyebrow.

“Yes! If you complied and dealt with Sven like I told you to, it wouldn’t have turned out this way!”

“Why didn’t you do it yourself?”

Again, those words froze William in place.

If I could, I would have done it!

“Because it’s your freaking job! Leaders don’t do these things themself!”

“Leaders?” Lucius pretended like he did not want to laugh at that. “I don’t remember that I have to follow your orders, William. Don’t misunderstand it. I’m here to help, but that doesn’t mean you’re my leader. We can do anything we want here.”

“You..!”

“If you don’t like how we work, we can leave,” Lucius smirked. “Think about it, William. If I leave the army, would you be able to handle them yourself? At least I know more than half of the players in Pride want your head.”

William was speechless. He did not know what to say because Lucius was telling the truth. If the William Star did not have these demons here, he could not imagine how the guild would be now.

He could only keep the grudge to himself. He turned the other way and gritted his teeth.

“A... And what are you going to do with the war? You know we’re surrounded.”

William’s voice trembled (because he was very mad).

Lucius did not say anything. He closed the screen in front of him. He stood up from the sofa and walked up to the big window. His red eyes looked down at the ground below. Something he saw got him smiling.

“Are we really surrounded?”

“What?” William frowned and looked at the man.

“Do you know what’s the funniest thing in a human being, William?”

The purple-haired man narrowed his eyes. He was not sure what the man meant by that.

“Morality.”

“What?” William raised his eyebrows.

“Morality is funny. Humans claim that they have it, but they actually don’t.”

“What are you talking about, Lucius?”

“I’m talking about humans with a mask called morality. They pretend to feel for others and offer their hands, but they only do that for fame. They want others to see them as good people with morality. They want to be superheroes who protect justice. Am I wrong, William?”

“....”

It was such a sarcastic remark that William could not say anything back. Lucius let out a long sigh.

“Even though there’s only a handful of them who do that, they’re my great disposable pawns. It’s funny, huh? Those stupid humans that gather around just because of their stupid ‘morality’.”

The more William listened to him, the more he did not understand it. He slowly stood up and walked up to the red-haired guy to ask further. However, he opened his mouth widely in awe when he saw what was below.

“W...What is this?!” He was surprised.

“Superheroes who come to help you.” Lucius opened the window. The breeze hit them.

There were so many strangers walking into Tristan from everywhere. They were not here as enemies because they were all holding a white flag to negotiate with the William Star. The members were all confused.

Some of them were already in town. Scarlet and the others were welcoming them.

“Don’t tell me they’re here to help us?” William screeched.

“I told you that humans have their stupid morality.” Lucius grinned. “It’s true that Sven’s plan is good. He wants to use Tristan as a battlefield to destroy us. However, making the four gods turn against us is a double-edged sword since there’re people who just can’t stand watching us being bullied and they have to rush here to help. They hope to be superheroes who lift a poor guild like us up by winning the fight against the four gods.”

“....”

William was speechless because he was still in shock about the number of people coming into town. There were roughly three thousand people.

“Even though they’re disposable, they’re still pawns,” Lucius said. “Now you can stop worrying about this, right, William?”

William turned back to Lucius.

“Don’t tell me you’ve calculated this.”

Lucius did not say anything. He only scoffed and walked away from the window, leaving William there with confusion.

“As your leader, it’s up to you how you’ll arouse those pawns. Consider that a gift for you.” Lucius talked in a low voice. “You don’t have to worry and just do whatever you want to do. We’ll leave when it’s time. I guarantee that you’ll get everything you want after the war. If Pride’s still here, that is.”

Lucius walked out of the room. The stuffy atmosphere got William sweating.

“What’s up with him?”

----------------

The war was approaching. Each guild knew that it was possibly the last war. They took everything they had out to fight. The news agency had started to predict the outcome of the war.

Sometimes they even talked about it so excitedly on TV. They were keeping their eye on the four gods who would be fighting each other for the first time in this war. The highlight was the Nemesis, who had been keeping a low profile for months, that recently announced their participation in this war.

It turned out that this war had become the center of attention internationally. Some said that the winner would definitely be one of the four gods. Some said that the Nemesis and the William Star had the potential, too, since they had been keeping their crystals for all this time.

But every news agency said the same that...

This would definitely be the last war and the new history would be written for Pride.

“Are you listening to me, Vincent?!”
