Chapter 588: A Surprising Improvement! Part V

“But isn’t that because of the adrenaline rush? It makes our heart beat faster and every part of the body can work faster.”

Stella said in a medical way. Baron smiled at her.

“You’re correct. The human body will release adrenaline when we’re excited, scared, or very happy. It’s not controllable, otherwise all of us would have been Batman by now.” Baron turned to Shin again. “However, the Signetic is different. The more pressure you receive and the more you’re pushed to the corner, the Signetic will be released easier. It’s good if you can train and force it to come out until your body’s used to it. You’ll be able to release it easier in the future. To make it simple, you’ll be able to control it. It’s like if you’re afraid of something, you’ll be afraid of it forever. If I train you until you’re used to it, which you can now see it in Shin, not only you’ll be one with your Signetic, but you’ll also be able to control it.”

Then, Baron turned to Wisana, who was still looking at Shin quietly.

“Unlike you, little Vincent.” She said. “Not only you don’t want to use it, but you also only depend on your recklessness and always strike the monsters directly. You’re still alive only because of the “Impulse”. But in your case, it’s not even an activation, it’s more like getting it to work just to survive. We don’t have to talk about “Whisper” because you barely touch it.”

She stared at the boy, who let out a long sigh with a stressful face.

“...That nonsense ability, I don’t want to use it.”

Wisana muttered so softly that Baron halted.

“That demonic ability, I don’t want it.”

Hearing that, the older woman scoffed. She glanced at Stella, who was still trying to heal the boy. Stella was so startled since Baron’s eyes were so scary.

Baron stood up and put her hand out for Wisana. He thought that she was going to help him up, but he was wrong. Viola grabbed his shirt collar and pulled him up with all her might. Stella let out a scream.

The boy was above the floor now. He did not think that she would do that to him. Baron moved her face so close to his that their nose almost touched. Her eyes were so determined that Wisana went quiet.

“Then, fuckin’ leave Pride.”

Her low voice was scarier than ever before. The immense pressure got Wisana speechless. It was not because he had never been pulled up like this, but it was because this small lady had this much strength to put everything under her spell. Even Shin had to stop fighting and turned to look at them.

“This training aims to teach you to control your Signetic. If you don’t want to have it, leave. You’re pathetic.” She glared at him. “And I’ll never let you join the war. If you’re so scared, just leave Pride. You may not realize it just yet, but you’re the one who will lead us to victory. However, I won’t beg you to stay. Don’t flatter yourself. If I have to risk my life with the little fucker’s unstable abilities, I’d rather lose my chance to win. The Key of Forbidden is important and you know that the cores are in your hands. If you don’t feel like doing it, get your ass up and leave.”

Wisana did not say anything. His facial expression did not even change. He only frowned and stared back at her.

“You don’t know it.” He argued softly. “You don’t know what my abilities are like. Every time they’re activated, I fall unconscious and I’ll be awake without realizing what I’ve done. And do you know what I get after that? The stares from my friends, my girlfriend, and even my sister. It’s like they’re looking at a monster. And now you’re telling me that I should accept that? No way!”

Baron halted a little. Her eyes actually showed anxiety for a second. She quickly turned back to normal and stretched her lips into a smile. It was a confident smile.

“And you’re afraid?” Baron smirked. “You’re afraid of your own abilities. You’re afraid that they’ll make you different. You’re afraid of turning into a monster.”

“Is it wrong?” Wisana asked with a low voice, yet he did not dare to look into her eyes. “You don’t know how I was raised. You have no right to insult me.”

Baron’s heart skipped a beat, but she did not show it.

She opened her mouth. Her voice was so dry.

“Those people.” She said softly. “The cores possess their own Signetic. And I guarantee that they’ll be able to use it to its fullest. I just want you guys to be able to handle that as much as you can. That’s why Signetic is the key to win this fight. This war is much more important than you imagine, Wisana...”

This was the very first time that she called him that. However, Wisana still refused it, even though he was getting weaker with the older woman’s shaky voice. Her small hands slowly let his shirt collar go. The boy stroked his reddened neck.

“But I won’t force you if you don’t want to use it.”

She went so quiet that the boy had to turn to look at her. It was apparent on his face that he was thinking about it. He knew in his heart that he had issues, but he really hated the Signetic. He had been cursing it since he realized that he was not a mere human, even though he had been trying to act like one.

“And how can I do that, sis?”

However, the boy’s voice shifted.

They looked each other in the eye. Wisana smiled again. It was his same old cheery smile.

Seeing that, Baron halted as if she knew that the smile was only meant to clear up the sickly mood. She smiled a little.

“We’ll never know if we don’t try!” Baron yelled out delightfully. “The Signetic has been like one of the organs inside us. If you can use it once, you can control it like how you do with your hands or feet. The reason why you can’t do it just yet is because you haven’t opened your mind to it.”

“It’s difficult.” Wisana pouted.

“It’s not!” Baron hit his back. “Try and think about when you learn how to walk and talk. It’s the same.”

The boy raised his eyebrow.

“Like I remember any of that, sis. Who’d be able to do that?!”

Baron beamed at him. She walked to the back of Wisana. The boy glanced back at her. She, then, kicked his butt and sent him back to where the fight was.

“Wahhh...” The boy screeched.

“You’ll never know unless we try. You only have to open your mind to it, little boy. The rest just leave it to your body.”

Wisana had to fight alongside Shin again. Shin intentionally let some monster through to Wisana, who was still confused about what happened. However, he could evade the monster’s attack so easily that Baron clapped for him.

“That’s right. Don’t think too much during the fight. Absorb everything with your movements and open up your mind to let your Signetic work.”
