Chapter 57: Sister is Scary! Part I

Chapter 57: Sister is Scary! Part I

YAWN!!

A long yawn came before the tall man stepped out of his bedroom. His hair was messy like a bird’s nest and his face was drowsy like he was not quite awake yet. He rolled up his t-shirt to scratch his belly, making his early state look even worse to the point that his good-looking face could not save him anymore.

The pair of amber eyes glanced at the clock on the wall to see that it was just past 6 o’clock. So, he sighed, turning to the room at the end of the hallway.

“She’s probably not up, yet,” Wisana whispered.

That room was Waree’s, his stepsister who just got back from the U.S. so, he thought that she was still sleeping in for sure. Then he realized that she was not adjusted to Thailand’s time zone and that it was too early for most people to wake up on a summer break like this.

So, the man shrugged before he dragged his feet to the kitchen, not caring much about her now.

“Then what’d I get up this early for?” The deep voice said. “I should have stayed and talked with Ae. there’re so many things I want to ask the guy.”

He murmured on his way to the refrigerator, then he grabbed a bottle of milk inside before drinking it all up at one time. Since he had been by himself for a long time, Wisana did not care to wash or brush his teeth to have a good manner for anyone. Sometimes, he woke up and even finished his meal before he cleaned himself.

The tall one took a seat on the sofa, hand reaching for the remote control to turn the television on for the morning news. And that was when he smelled something strange.

“What’s this smell?”

He was frowning with curiosity. His eyes were searching around for the cause of it. Then his first guess that came to his mind was that maybe he forgot to turn the gas stove off.

Wait, no, that was not it. He did not forget to turn it off, but he just left the whole pot on it!!!

“Sh*t! When did I turn it on?!”

He almost dropped the milk bottle when he ran to the stove back in the kitchen. His hand hurriedly turned it off before he started noticing the hot rice porridge in the pot, smelling so good in there. Also, the food was not burnt, or ruined just a tiny bit.

“Why is it not burnt? The good spirit here totally just saved my condo then.”

He said as he let out a sigh of relief. He would not know what to do if the place was actually caught on fire!

“But I don’t remember cooking this porridge last night.”

“I did that, Na.”

“Oh yeah? Sh*t!”

While he was trying to recall what he did last night, a sweet voice suddenly came from behind him, making him jump. He turned around immediately.

Behind him, there was a tall, slender figure of the cute girl with long brown hair tied up in a loose ponytail, making her look lively. A delighted smile appeared on her pretty face. And she was in a yellow apron with a bear printed on it. The one that Wisana recognized right away was his.

“Waree!” He cried. “I thought you weren’t up yet.”

The girl just smiled widely at that.

“I haven’t quite adjusted with the time zone here, so I got up too early. And you did, too. I was just thinking about bringing breakfast to your bed.”

“Is that so?”

Wisana sourly smiled as he was thinking that he was lucky that he got up early, or his sister would have seen him drooling in his sleep for sure.

“So, did you sleep well last night?”

“I did, and you?”

“Oh, I... yeah, I did, too.”

The older brother replied, feeling a bit weird that she asked him that question.

Well, this was his place. Why would he not be sleeping well?

“You got up this early, and cooked some breakfast for me, too? You don’t need to bother next time. I don’t really eat breakfast that much. Just a glass of milk can already keep me going until lunchtime.”

“That’s not right!” Waree raised her voice, making the other one flinch. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It helps your brain function well and gives you the energy to work until lunchtime.”

“But Waree, I...”

“No buts!” She finished then she put her hands on her waist, showing that she was serious. “And you don’t have to talk so formally to me, Na. Just call me Nam. Don’t act so distant. Didn’t I already tell you this last night?”

“Fine, fine. Got it.”

The one who got scolded just scratched his face, not knowing what to argue with her. He also felt quite amazed that this girl could be so natural about this, unlike him who kept being awkward here.

Seeing him being obedient like this, Waree smiled so widely.

“Go sit at the table, brother. I’ll bring the porridge to your seat.”

“Huh? Oh, would you like... I mean, I’ll help.”

“No!”

The firm rejection made the brother pause for the second time.

“Please, you’re my brand-new brother, so let me take care of you. Go sit and wait at the table for your breakfast.”

“But...”

“Na!”

And eventually, Wisana gave up when the other one was looking at him with stern eyes. He still wondered how she became comfortable with this so fast.

It was just one day, but she acted like they had been siblings for decades!

“Okay, then ...Er, I’m gonna wait at the table.”

“Good, bro.”

A sweet smile curled up on her pretty face, satisfied that the man followed her order compliantly. And Wisana could not help but turn back to check on Waree again after a few steps away from the kitchen. After he could see that slender body of her fully, he stopped short, choking on his own saliva.

PHUDDD!!!

“N... Nam, why are you dressed like that?!” He yelled.

“Yeah?”

She turned to him, tilting her head in confusion.

“Well, um...” Wisana got tongue-tied. “I understand that you don’t have any clothes to change, because your luggage isn’t here, yet. And I don’t mind you borrowing some, but why does it have to be this one?!”

“Why? What’s wrong with this one?”

The little sister asked with innocent eyes, making the brother want to throw himself out of the window.

How could she not know what was wrong with that?
