Chapter 448: The Favor Part IV
Chapter 448: The Favor Part IV
“So, you’re a tourist, Miss?”
The older one asked with a soft smile. And hearing the question, Wisana nodded in reply.
“Yes, I am. I’ve been travelling around to farm my level.”
“Yeah? You’re quite strange for that, you know, travelling by yourself during the war period like this, don’t you know that thrives groups tend to rob low-ranking players more often recently?”
Wisana nodded again at his words. He had heard some about them, too.
“But a pro player like you is probably not afraid of these thieves, right?” The grandpa said, chuckling. “Even all the boys in the village couldn’t fight you alone.”
“I’m not good, really.”
Those were just too weak. Wisana thought but did not say it out loud.
“HAHAHA, I know they’re not so good at this. So, I have to thank you for holding back and not killing any of them.”
Hearing that, Wisana paused.
“Uh, sorry, is my face that obvious to read?” He asked with an awkward face.
“HAHAHAHA, no, it’s not like that. They’re just too weak. Each one of them doesn’t have any fighting skills. Some of them are cowards, even.”
The grandpa said before he cracked into a laugh, making the other one force a wry laugh along with him, too.
“Anyway, you look very young, but you have a child already?”
After speaking, the grandpa pointed at Mona Lisa, looking at her with endearment. Of course, little Mo could sense it when someone adored her, so she beamed her white teeth back at him.
“She’s my child in Pride, Grandpa. Well, Mo’s a dragon born from my blood. Er, ...well, yeah, she is my child.” Wisana scratched his cheek as he started being confused by his own words.
“Oh, I see, she looks quite similar to you,” Grandpa said, smiling widely. “Another thing, Miss, aren’t you cold dressed up like that, hm?”
This time, Wisana looked down at himself as he pulled his jacket close to cover the top of his body, even though his puffed chest made it hard to cover it entirely.
Wisana let out a dry laugh.
Meanwhile, Grandpa Khao smiled softly.
“No, I’m not. I grew up in Chiang Mai, so I’m kind of used to cold weather.”
“Oh, a northern girl. I can see now why you’ve got fair skin like this.” He laughed. “I’ve heard that northern girls are flirty, but never heard of them fearless before.”
The listener gave him a sweet smile. And seeing that, the grandpa laughed, satisfied.
This girl’s smile looked strangely cute and charming. Of course, it was such a smile that made an old man like him feel a lot livelier.
“By the way, Grandpa, can I ask you something about your town?”
The younger one asked, making the old man curl up a slight smile as he nodded as permission.
“What did those guys in the village think I was to attack me like that?”
The old man let out a slight sigh.
“They thought you were a sand monster, Miss Vissara.”
Hearing the answer, the listener narrowed his eyes curiously.
“Well, you don’t know its name? I don’t know what it is if you only go by the name sand monster.”
“Sorry about that, Miss. I just don’t know what the monster is either.” The old man said honestly. “They started attacking our village months ago. I have no idea why, but they’ve killed many of us and tried to destroy our town. Those young men here tried their best to fight, but they could only protect the hotel just like you see.”
Listening to that, Wisana understood right away why the town’s condition was messy like this. And the reason why this hotel was still safe was because the villagers fought with their lives to keep it.
They had been putting all their strength into putting up with the monsters as long as they could.
The village could be messed up.
But if the hotel was destroyed, it meant the town’s mainstay was destroyed as well.
“And how long have you been dealing with them? This means that the town’s tourists,”
“We haven’t had many tourists come visit our town for a long time, Miss.” The grandpa spoke with a smile that looked lively, regardless of how he looked at it. “And there were fewer tourists when we have this kind of situation going on in here. You’re the first guest of Vanilia in the past months.”
"Aw, that’s why you all came out to give me such a warm welcome.”
Wisana said sarcastically with a bright smile, making the old man burst into laughter.
“Those boys are very alert for these monsters.” He said in a gentle voice, “They all did that because they wanted to protect this hotel. And if there weren’t Jeng and Berm, we wouldn’t have survived for this long.”
“That’s unbelievable. That guy fights with those sand monsters with his mouth?”
The old man was amused by Miss Vissara’s words and her obvious acts of irritation at his grandson.
“He might have such a rude mouth, but he’s also that bold kid who encouraged the Vanilians to resist the monsters here. If it wasn’t because of him, the villagers would have given up all by now.”
After speaking, the old man looked around the room until his eyes stopped on the garden outside. Then a soft smile crossed his face slowly as he placed his aged hands on the table.
“And I thank him for that.” He said with a smile. “Because for me, this hotel has a lot of history with me and this grandson of mine knows that. That’s why he always overdoes himself. Do you know how many years I’ve run this hotel in Vanilia town?”
The old man asked smilingly, before looking Wisana in the eye.
“No, I don’t.” Wisana shook his head in reply.
“It’s been 26 years since I opened it. And I’ve seen so many things passing through this place.”
Listening to that, Wisana curled up a slight smile.
“So, you probably love this hotel so much, don’t you?” He said in a delighted voice. “You become so bonded with it that you can’t cut Pride off, right?”
The old man froze for a moment. He looked down, before nodding at the girl in front of him.
“Right, I can’t cut away from Pride. That’s why I don’t want to lose this hotel.”
The old man spoke with a slight change in his voice. Wisana froze at that, too. He was wondering if he said something wrong as he glanced at Jinnie for an opinion. Which, the AI only shrugged back at him as if she had no idea either.
But something for sure, Wisana could sense right away how much this old man loved and bonded with this hotel from how it was taken care of. Not any parts of this place were broken and shabby at all. Even though there were rarely guests checking in, the hotel was always still kept in new condition.
Not only this old man, but everyone in this town was ready to fight to the death with those monsters. Wisana knew from fighting with them just once that these people were to sacrifice their lives if that could save this town from the disaster. They were afraid, but they had the guts to fight, too.
And this was what Wisana liked the most!
